Received mine today! Looks great. When I wind it the seconds hand stops/jumps goes crazy. I’ll keep an eye on it, the movement may just need to be broken in. Very happy overall and it seems quite accurate.

Does the Miyota have a sturdier hand winding mechanism than ETAs and Seikos? I would be worried about the longevity.

Exactly that I wanted to have. A manual mechanical with the protection from the automatic mechanism! I looked into making my automatic that way, but not all can work after that... Excellent move! I would have liked a dial without those numbers... but is pretty enough as it is.

Regrettably I will sit this one out, mainly due to size. Too small. But having said that, I hope all 1,000 pieces sell quickly to happy owners. And I hope sales are monitored to control the potential for profiteering. I love Islander and TGV both, and hope this latest release is a huge success. The fact some of the proceeds go to charity is the icing on the cake!

Just arrived November 1st,truly an amazing watch,great size for my wrist accuracy is2+ seconds per day,Sapphire crystal is great at this price point for a no nonsense watch,only downside was cost of duty charge to UK £60.55,I got number 485/1000 so definitely exclusive.well done Marc and Tristano.😊

I was 90% sure I was going to buy this prior to even seeing it, I missed out on not only the Rangemaster, but the Squale X TGV that was in my cart as it sold out. As an enjoyer of field watches I was happy to see this and was just on the fence about whether or not I wanted a mechanical watch as everything I own is quartz or auto. I was mulling it over and when the site crashed I decided if there were any on Thursday, I’d buy it. Bought mine at 7:30 this morning and I’m very excited. I’ve got some fun straps on the way to add to the collection as well to play around with it on. So expect some photos in the future! Thanks for being two Genuine guys, watch enthusiasts, not taking yourselves too seriously, and helping me really delve deeper into the hobby or horology. You two are the best, I can’t wait to have this on the wrist!

Been a few days and I’m really let down by the strap. Seems high quality and it will last. But w/ a 6.5” wrist I started on the second hole. After an hour it was to loose yet I couldn’t tighten it to the first hole. Finally got it, way too tight. It’s going to loosen up and then be to loose and w/ no more holes available it won’t work. Just waiting for a new strap to arrive. I may install a 8N30 movement and make it truly manual wind. Not knowing when it’s fully wound is odd, it’s not automatic anymore. And I have concerns about long term reliability. Autos aren’t typically made for constant manual winding.

Just placed my order and very excited to get it on the wrist. I am 58 years old, but got into the hobby of watch collecting only 2- 3 years ago. I've always admired watches, including my grandfather's. Both LIW and TGV were great resources in fanning the flames in my interest in horology. Two key factors in my decision to buy this watch: 1) the reliability of LIW as a company and 2) the unique design of this watch: kudos to TGV in not playing it safe. Thank you for not simply putting an NH35 in it. Thank you for the manual wind!!! Just out of curiosity, why did you go with the 8N24 instead of the 8N33? I love the feel of a handwound watch. I'm assuming this may feel more like an automatic when winding. Nevertheless, I like the idea that this movement itself was modded :). Thanks again for all you do Marc and TGV!

Not a knock against Marc or TGV, but automatic movement is not meant to be winded every day. How is the winding mechanism of this movement going to hold up? Years ago, orient had an mechanical watch with an automatic movement without the rotor and I heard issues with the winding mechanism of that watch.

@islandwatch You are welcome. This is a great design, similar to the first Rangemaster, but more like a field watch. If you ever do the Rangemaster II, you should consider making it a GMT with the Miyota 9075 movement; arctic dial optional. 🤣

@@PapriceP I have a Hamilton Khaki mechanical and it's really obvious when it's fully wound. You encounter significant resistant. There's no way you would wind past that point unless you were trying to break the watch.

Great sizing (less is more in this watch category); highly legible dial and lume; highly practical finishing and strap; interesting twist to convert the indestructible Miyota 8N24 to a quite visible manual wind; proper water resistance; and an impressive price point, including charity donations(!). Marc’s videos simply show the watches and he gives their specs. He may say if he likes the dials or other little details. But that’s it. He’s been a dealer since day one. TGV has had multiple collabs but his channel has always been more about horology as a whole than a review channel. Now Jody, he’s no longer an impartial reviewer and anything he says shouldn’t be trusted. Can’t blame him for trying to crate a revenue stream outside YT. But his days as a reviewer are now over.

There are quite a few things that makes this watch of interest to me. The dial, classic, clear, uncluttered, with C3, love that colour over the blue BGW9. A handwinding rotorless non-auto mechanical, whats not to like, and gilded, and the cut-out in the glass. It blows my mind...! Saphire, chech, decent waterresistance, and 9,4 mm thin! I really think I need this. Should I pull the trigger? Will browse a little longer, but daylight is fading fast. That may be where the excellent lume comes in.
