The irony of this interview is that Davy Coombs and his sister's antics is directly in line with the way Guy Cooper was handled regarding his attempt to build a facility to host a national. Listen to Guy's interview with Ping where it lays it out. When Guy discussed this situation, many people literally said "that isn't true". Now put Bud and Lori's experience with Guy Cooper's experience and then add WW Ranch in Florida not wanting to be on the national circuit anymore and how coincidently they lost their Loretta Lynn's qualifier race. Take Davy's right hand man, Tim Cotter and the situations that he has been involved with (or created on his own poor behavior) over the last five years (Deegan's bike claim, not letting a young girl practice at LL's, getting in the face of fans at Red Budd to name a few) and you have three people who manipulate the sport in an unprofessional manner and ONLY to the pad their own pockets. The beauty of social media is that these types of business antics will expose the true character of a company and those that run them. If you really want to see how the amateur motocross and professional motocross scene is handled, attempt to start your own race series. MX Sports has handcuffs on nearly every track in the United States with either an Area, a Regional or "if you prove your good enough we might consider you for an Area" conversation. The most concerning element of this entire situation is the way that Davy can look directly Jase directly in the eyes and spin the entire situation. I find it interesting that Davy never mentioned his sisters role as legal counsel and that she was actually getting paid by the NPG group. If the Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG) wanted to deal with only one figure head from the NPG group, that should have been a group decision, not the executive decision of Davy or his sister. The level of deceit is next level when it comes to the entire Coombs family. Huge thank you Jase for bridging this subject - the entire motocross community appreciates the efforts you have put in concerning this entire situation.

To be fair for a true SMX championship they need to even the number races for each stadium and outdoor events. Even throughout the playoffs. So basically long story short. Davey Coombs wanted 3,500 free tickets that he resells to athletes for $75. Bud wanted to give away 1,000. MX Sports (Davey) came down to 2,500. Bud was willing to come up 1,500. Negations stalled. So basically all that’s stopping a Glen Helen national is $100,000. Since then, everyone can live with this, but Bud. Crying over spilled milk is a bad look, and gets nothing done.

So what I learned here in the comments is that people have/had already decided who they thought was in the right and are using these podcasts to just shout loudly about who they already thought was telling the truth. We’ll never know all the exact details but Bud seems very emotional and very hazy about a number of details… these kind of people tend to just be belligerent and stubborn over things they simply don’t understand (albeit with good intentions). Typical “old school MX types” just have a real problem with anyone who speaks well and/or has money! I’ll say this much, Coombs was articulate, spoke with clarity and stuck to the point and brought up facts… Bud literally just waffled away while barely saying anything at all.

Which is exactly what Davey said it boiled down too, he wasn't willing to take the same deal as everybody else. I just see this as them being salty they weren't included in the purchase, that being said did it look shady absolutely, but let's be honest MX sports was a perfect candidate to manage the series regardless of who purchased it, so to me that just is what it is.

Glen Helen would be the perfect opening round of motocross. Everyone hates Pala. Lame to be doing this all just because mxsports needs maximum profit all the time. Sometimes it takes money to make money, stop being cheap! If you make the series better, everything else will work out. Quality is better than cheap. Every single fan would prefer GH over Pala but mxsports doesn't seem to respect the fans who drive this whole thing. It's not the oems, at the end of the day it is all driven from the fans. You lose the fans you have nothing

Whole bunch of fluff, but I watched the whole thing. I wish he would’ve talked specifically about the issues that they couldn’t come to agreement on (conflicting sponsors, specific payment, etc). I get that trust was lost but that isn’t a reason to just abandon a relationship. The AMA Pro National series doesn’t NEED Glen Helen to be successful. Would it be cool to have them back on the schedule? Sure! But they need to be willing to work by the same standards as all TEN other facilities. They don’t hold enough leverage to make their own demands. Once Gelen Helen either sells or gets passed down to the next owners, it will likely be a part of the series again.

As a spectator and a racer/rider I don't care too much about any of this. Just work it out and put the races on. If someone is a jerk and outmaneuvered someone to take a race but they did it legally then too bad. If they didn't, sue them. F all politics. Don't even go down the road of this back biting and arguing. Sell the customer a good product and they will buy it. The rest does not matter.

To me, it seems like Bud cannot get past it. All the other promoters don’t seem to have a problem with MX Sports. I wish that he could put his ego down and realize that the sport would be a lot better with Glen Helen a part of it.

So Bud thinks the Coombs family took the series for themselves, even though DMG (4:53) won the bid? In retaliation, he makes extra demands (17:39) from the race promoter? Sounds like Bud is in the wrong twice.

I will have to listen to the full podcast but this was pretty uninformative in comparison to the Davey interview. It comes down to business that happens everyday in all different forms. People had the opportunity to have an agreement and do business. Concessions were made but weren’t good enough. They didn’t agree so they walked away as I would have. Pretty cut and dry.

What will happen when he just sells it for new housing tracts and industrial facilities and make a ton more money with no more stress/crap, move to the Bahamas and live the golden years? As modernization encroaches noise/dust issues will be the nail in the coffin.

Figuring it is right down the street from a jail I doubt any housing will be made near it. It also has a sheriff driving training course next door. Doubt he could sell it that easily unless the sheriffs department buys it.
