It's written in the stars, David Moyes to take over from Sean Dyche at hapless Everton 😮
@PWMoze3 ай бұрын
Sam says criticism was unfair and David says he doesn't have a particular 'style of football' ? How about this: play without the ball for 70 minutes camped out on the edge of your own penalty box, struggle to pass the ball out of defence, isolate the striker, always play your favourites regardless of form, play others out of position, always make changes too late and bring on players who cannot change the game Always have two goalies on the bench but never use the club's youngsters unless there's only three minutes left. Lose by huge margins to ordinary teams like Fulham, Palace or Brighton then deflect criticism by always looking backwards at previous season's successes. Gaslight critical fans, pretend you didn't have £200m to spend and still failed to bring in a decent striker and always blame others for your own failures. Just a few suggestions...

Perhaps Big Sam missed those. Moyes seems to have conveniently forgotten them too.

13:15: To answer the question conveniently not answered. In the summer transfer window of 2022, West Ham United spent over £165 million on new signings. Here's a list of the players they signed: Lucas Paquetá - £51 million (from Lyon) Gianluca Scamacca - £30.5 million (from Sassuolo) Nayef Aguerd - £30 million (from Rennes) Maxwel Cornet - £17.5 million (from Burnley) Emerson Palmieri - £13 million (from Chelsea) Thilo Kehrer - £10.1 million (from Paris Saint-Germain) Flynn Downes - £9 million (from Swansea City) Alphonse Areola - £7.75 million (from Paris Saint-Germain, permanent deal) The January prior we bought Said Benhrama for £30 Million (From Brentford) and the January following we bought Danny Ings (from Aston Villa) for an estimated £15 million. I said this on the interview with Simon Jordan; the biggest mistake of this window detailed above was using the funds to attempt to change the style and not just building on top of what you created with the setup you mentioned with Souceck, Antonio (and Bowen). Extremely comfortable off the ball, brutal on the break, inverted wingers and Tomas being a massive difference in both boxes. Should have just kept that type of philosophy and built upon it, rather than attempt to change it.

@@billo469 I remember watching us play Bournemouth at home from the gods, we were really struggling at the time, and I looked at that side and remember thinking, we need a left footed winger on that right, someone with the presence next to Dec (as he was literally carrying Wilshere and Noble in that midfield) and someone to press that back line and we will go become a much, much better side. I knew what we needed but didnt think it would change us so drastically from a team right near the bottom to a side finishing in Europe. Bringing in Bowen, bringing in Souceck and converting Antonio to CF was a masterclass from Moyes. The summer he spent big, he tried to change it, but got it wrong IMO. There was a word going round that people are starting to 'work us out' but I didnt believe it tbh. I just think the first year we played in Europe, we run out of steam. Should have just kept the same philosophy and brought in better players to improve that system. I remember wanting a blistering right footed left winger, new full backs with pace, a 10 (either Lingard or a similar profile, someone who is mobile, who just wants to go and play up with the CF) and someone more in the Antonio mould, rather than a totally different profile, to compete/ offer cover, not a technical target man (Scamacca). I think he got that window really wrong and couldnt get it right from there. He made several errors after that IMO. Did not understand this blind loyalty to JWP last season; thought it really weakened our midfield and think it was a key factor in our midfield being so poor and resulted in us shipping so many goals. The moment we went back to a similar model to the one I'm mentioning last season, we started winning games again.

Early in Moyes time we had Covid and the club had to tighten its belt. We lost a lot of players from the squad for a loss meaning there was not much money from sales. Players lost from the squad with minimal funds raised include. 1.Sabastian Haller - Cost £45M sold for £22M 2.Phillipe Anderson Cost £35m left on a Free. 3. Andry Yarmolenko Cost £18M left on a Free 4. Fabien Balbuena Cost 5M left on a Free. Total loss over £80. I also should point out that Benrahma was purchased with the money raised from the sale of Grady Diangana not from inward investment. In that same window Moyes was desperate to sign Eze (Who is now tearing it up at Palace) and the deal fell through because post COVID there was no money. Only when WBA came in for Diangana did fund become available by which time Eze had signed for Palace. Moyes took us from relegation candidates to Europe in two years. But that squad was not ready for Europe. After one year of playing 12 games more than our rivals each season we started losing games we would normally win. When a club misses a transfer window it is not easy to catch up. The squad gets older and players take time to bed in. Moyes had to do all that while keeping us in Europe. It will be interesting to see how villa get on at the end of this season. Newcastle fell of quite a bit after just one season in Europe.

These two guys have had good careers in football and you have to show them some respect for what they’ve achieved but that’s where I draw the line. The utter refusal to accept criticism is what pains me about these two. Most West Ham fans can appreciate what they both done for us but they got to a point where they couldn’t take us any further through their stubbornness and lack of tactical know how. Allardyce completed his job in securing us promotion and stabilising us as a premier league club but couldn't take us any further. With Moyes, he done well for us but the excluding the conference league the league form for the last two seasons were abysmal. A relegation battle followed by a very flattering 9th place finish. We got utterly played off the park by most teams last season as we let every team have the ball (even Sheffield at home) and due to our poor defence we conceded over 70 goals which is terrible. This included conceding 5 to Fulham, Palace and Chelsea! Having players like Kudus, Bowen, Paqueta, Alvarez and playing this way was clearly not acceptable to most fans and rightly so. Already with the new manager the players have come out and said how much better it's been. Steidten has finally been able to have control over transfers and we have a competitive squad.

Having possession is a way of defending. The fact that these two don't understand that and haven't been able to adjust shows why no one wants managers like them.

I’ve been attending games since 1986 & followed West Ham through thick & thin , all I can say is I don’t know where the expectation comes from, the old school supporters who know the history of the club also know how the club have always operated, if people only listened to the social media self obsessed so called fans you would think West Ham should be fighting for the league every year 🤣 that’s never been the case, West Ham is not just a football club ,it’s a way of life , a culture, a family who don’t have silly expectations, it’s not a club for the keyboard warrior social media part time fan

Top coaches, but as a West Ham fan, they both suffered with a lack of plan b, when you play the top 5 it is fine to play deep and on the counter attack, but you cant play that way against the bottom 5.

'The right time for us both' - utter rubbish. The reason was because he the transfers had been taken away from him and was to be called a head coach instead of manager. Lets not forget he banned the sporting director, Tim Steidton, from the training ground. Classic narcissistic behaviour that spins the reality. Where's this queue of top prem clubs lining up to sign Moyes if he left West Ham? Exactly..
@nilskanter28922 ай бұрын
"Larger squad means that several players cannot play and that in turn means that those players become less satisfied over time," Moyes roughly said... Nowadays you can't go into a season with a squad or a player base of 16 or 18 players like you might have 20 or 30 years ago! Apparently he just doesn't understand! Although he has seen exactly what can happen if that is the case! Today you have a completely different number of games throughout the season, plus a ton of international games too! The competitions have become so bloated these days! You need a large and broad squad! And then it's the job of a good trainer to keep everyone happy in a way! It's that simple!

Look heres the facts. Moyes, you were offered a contract. The contract stated that you will not be a manager anymore. You would be a coach. You declined because you want full control. And with that control luckily brought a trophy. And gave you your 1st ever trophy aswell. So Thanks. However, it came with a slow gradual decline because you are stubborn. You pick favourites and you dont learn. You isolate players out of the squad that forces you to use a small squads that slowly declines with fatigue cos none of your subs will play for you. You fear having a go at the opposition. You respect teams like man u and chelsea so much that even when they are going through a bad patch, you surrender the ball to them. And hope to catch them on the break. You sat back against luton for god sake. Also lets go through every transfer you made and what good players came out of that. I can name 3. Bowen, emerson and dawson. The rest was terrible. Philips is a great example of your stubbornness. So Thank god you declined that contract so we can move forward. You honestly made me stop watching football and enjoying it with my dad. Take care. And sam. You can do one. Both dead managers that no one wants. Enjoy your retirement.
