I dont know why you want one. It's wider than any fishing/ hunting trail. It is serriously underpowered. It is unable to pull a trailer more than 45 mph without problems. The design is Allergic to rocky terrain, packed full of engine problems. The alternators are only good for 3 months. Then you start getting a flicker in your light system. So if you want a radio its gonna burn up every 3 months. It is automatic. Plus anything you can buy as a civilian will be nothing but a frame because you have to have clearance to even know what the outer materials are made of. Which must be disclosed upon sale. the humvee had so much weight packed on it that you would completely have to change the undercarriage out before you could use it. If it was good, you would not be able to drive it because of the stiffness, if it was bad then your suspension arms and springs need replaced and new bolt holes on the frame where the old ones wore through. They are junk. That's why the military is getting rid of them. Lasted 2 generations because contract. The f16 and f14 was used in vietnam. It is 30 years older. Still used today, put that math together. Granted they are more expensive. But still 55 years old. They saw JFK in office. Surely would have been phased out by now. iraq/ afghanistan were is the only wars the hummer have seen. They failed at every turn. And the jltv has been comming in since 2008.

It would have to be diesel, you wouldn't want to carry gas & diesel, that's no problem, but it wouldn't be a light little Honda, so would carrying around the extra weight use the fuel that you save not having to run regular motor, also it would involve being able to power everything from both sources, that's more places to have problems, the main benefit would be less hours on the motor, I would think it would be worth it, IF you get a couple more years out of the motor.
@Trasion5 жыл бұрын
Simple the humvee doesn't offer enough protection without absolutely booging down the suspension with extra armor it wasn't designed for. The lower profile and extra weight means parts wear out faster and you get stuck easier.
@G1NZOU5 жыл бұрын
Very true, also engine and break performance was dramatically reduced while carrying around all that armour. Would take ages to accelerate, and handle like a dog at high speed. The Humvee is good at it's original job, high mobility for utility use, but not for mine protected frontline service, it just doesn't cut it for the job the Army require of it nowadays.

The UK is also buying nearly 3000 of these, we have the new Foxhound vehicle which is very nice but due to us being the only user of it we have to pay the full R&D cost, plus the composite armour is expensive, it's great as a lightweight vehicle but for larger tasks the JLTV fits the bill, and buying a vehicle the US are using cuts costs for spare parts and manufacture for a vehicle with such large order numbers, it just makes sense.

I joined the National Guard and for most of my career, I had recon duties. The M151 jeep was small, but quiet. It was hard to get stuck, but when it did, it was often possible to get it free with the strength of the crew, maybe in extreme cases with some help from a second jeep. The problem was that it did not carry much cargo, and recon with a trailer is dicey if you have to turn around in a hurry. The HMMWV is larger, noisier, and the way things ended up, I still found myself towing a trailer on recon more than once. It's bigger size and lousy visibility makes it a lot harder to backup or turn around in a hurry. The HMMWV is a better off road vehicle than the M880 s it replaced, but I would have preferred to keep the CUCV. It never should have replaced the jeep as a Scout/Command vehicle. The replacement looks to be even larger. Sometimes survivability depends on stealth and nimbleness, and not being their when the sewage hits the fan; the jeep remains better for those jobs. We need a new jeep, maybe a couple of inches wider, and definitely about a foot longer. Besides needing a quieter scout vehicle, if you are on recon, it helps to be able to hear and be more in touch with the surroundings. Hiding behind armor may fend off light ammo (but not armor piercing heavier calibers,) but it definitely creates a sense deficit about what is going on outside the vehicle. The military these days is so focused on zero casualties, something that is never going to happen, that they create other issues.

Delon Duvenage *they are meant to be heavier in the first place, all the up armoured humvees were underpowered and the chassis was nor body was not designed for that much weight
@ranny35075 жыл бұрын
Delon Duvenage weight does no determine what terrain can be crossed, the chassis does, and this chassis and body were designed *in the first place* to have a considerable amount of armour, the engine and drivetrain are also designed in the first place to support a vehicle of this weight.
@ranny35075 жыл бұрын
Delon Duvenage the German tanks got bogged down because nothing could have crossed that terrain, same in Angola, the JLTV is not made to cross everything, but it can cross rocky terrain in Afghanistan, as well as fairly muddy fields and go through rivers, I never said it was impossible to get stuck, but it offers better protection on a chassis that was designed for the weight

I've got news for you, an un-governed Hummer will do 100 mph +. I served with the M-151A2, and a few A1s. It was a great vehicle, if you weren't a hotdog behind the wheel. I was able to get a MUTT to do things everyone else believed it couldn't do. I was one of the first 100 soldiers in my division to be licensed for the HMMWV. I liked it, generally speaking. I did not care for the automatic transmission, and the shift pattern took some getting used to, especially the lack of the park slot, IE you had to place the transmission shifter into neutral, and set the parking brake when you stopped. While more comfortable than the M-151, the Hummer was larger, and so more difficult to navigate in forested areas. The Hummer was also much louder, with the turbo diesel. I think the turbocharger may have been removed on later production vehicles, as ones I heard later on did not have that same high pitched whine, as the early ones. My unit kept M-151s long after everyone else had had to surrender them, as they allowed us to conduct our operations better, even though we got Hummers also, so for several years we had more vehicles in our unit, than the normal TO&E authorized. The biggest drawback to the Hummer, was that once inside, you were almost completely cutoff from outside stimuli. In other words, you didn't hear as well, see as well, smell as well, or feel your environment as well as you did in a MUTT. This creates a false sense of security, as well as removing the soldier from the environment he must live, and fight within. This new vehicle looks like it is bigger still than the Hummer, but is even more enclosed. So the soldier is even more isolated from the battlefield environment. That may be useful when IEDs are your biggest threat, but it will be very detrimental in combat in most environments other than desert, while fighting terrorists, and irregular forces. The narrator makes reference to the fact that the M-151 series couldn't keep up with Abrams tanks, and IFV's. That is quite true, but they were NEVER intended to. The M-151 series was designed, and first adopted in 1958, and while there were three major upgrades (M-151, A1, and A2), along with several lesser MWO changes, the M-151 was a GPWV (General Purpose Wheeled Vehicle [commonly referred to as a GP {jeep}]). Meaning it was a scouting, light attack, support, or liaison vehicle. It replaced three classes of vehicles used in WWII/Korea, and two used in Viet Nam. It was never intended to be direct support for armor, and with the adoption of the M-1 Abrams class of MBT, the M-151 series had NO HOPE of ever maintaining contact with the armor elements, but then, again, it was never intended to. Further, it seems to have even less cargo capacity than the Hummer, and the under hood area is an even bigger spaghetti factory than the Hummer. One of the biggest beauties of the M-151 series, was they were simple. Two mechanics, with a chain hoist, and a sturdy tree, could swap out the power pack in three hours. The Hummer takes at least two, maybe more, and needs a dedicated motor shop. This new thing will be an even bigger nightmare for the mechs in the field. Modern Army, and Marine Corps leadership has forgotten the oldest adage of warfare. "If it can go wrong, it will, and probably already has". To that end, stop looking for the most sophisticated, and coolest toys on the market, like the Air Force, and Navy do. Look for the equipment that will do the job most efficiently, yet allow the soldier to do his primary job, be that fighting, or maintaining/repairing.

As a retired Marine, my first thought when they were showing the vehicle in the 'car show' (at 2:46) was that it wasn't very 'grenade proof'...it has a LOT of catch-points and flats on top that would 'hold or wedge' a grenade until it went off...and that's not good, if you fully understand how powerful a grenade blast really is. The center of that engine hood (bonnet) has several catch-points alone, and if it caught and held a grenade until detonation, it would be right against the base of the windshield...taking out the hood, the engine, the driver and passenger front-seat...leaving the rest to wait to be finished off...VERY BAD DESIGN, for the sake of 'looking tough'...

More powerful engine for better performance whilst carrying sufficient protection, the up armoured Humvees were originally designed to be lightweight, with so many armour upgrades the engine can't cope, even with engine replacements and improvements, this new platform is modular as hell as well. Well yeah, the M-ATV is the Mine Resistant one, it's in the name, the L-ATV is the Light Utility version, so it's obviously not going to be as protected, the whole point of it is to give slightly better protection than the up-armoured HMMWV but with better performance because it's armour and engine performance are designed at the same time, rather than adding increasingly heavier armour to a truck that wasn't designed for it, eve with engine upgrades the HMMWV is not speedy at all.

The crew is protected. They can't be replaced; parts & vehicles can be replaced. If entire vehicle was protected it would weigh 30 tons or so.

The top heavy POS almost turns over at 1:17 and top speed of 77 ya right, my HMMWV would probably our run it at 65. This POS will be on GOVLIQ like the LMTV's after its releases. If you want to impress GI show some videos of it getting hit by a RPG or a 100LB IED. Then you can compare it to the master of the road HMMWV.

ROBERT DELAROSA I give you that being that the only thing that saved my men was the sandbags lining the floor of are hummies
@DocFeelGood46 жыл бұрын
Lmao umm they got rid of the HMMWV because they couldn't handle the blasts. That was the whole reason and it may have gotten a little sideward but trust me, it takes more to tip them over. They are outfitted with cages that cause the RPG to detonate prior to impact which reduces its penetration and you DO NOT want to hit a 300lb IED with a flatbottom anything.
@DocFeelGood46 жыл бұрын
Also the JLTV can hit 77... the MATV is 65-70.... faster than any armored down hmmwv
@G1NZOU6 жыл бұрын
This is able to have similar performance as a HMMWV with it's built in armour, the HMMWV has a smaller engine and was designed before all the armour upgrades they bolted onto it, it also has more space between it and the ground which is why it's more top heavy, with the HMMWV the blast had nowhere to go but up into the crew compartment, with the JLTV the aim is to deflect the explosive energy sideways, if the vehicle flips and get's totalled that's fine as long as the crew survives.

Haha. No. The hmmwv has a top speed around 75 with the 6.2 and 3 speed. Ive seen people go over 80 on flat ground before.

We really need 2 vehicles to replace the Humvee. One small lightweight fast vehicle. Smaller than the Jeep, but with better off-road capabilities, and one Heavy, with armor, lower center of gravity, and very simple,but redundant systems for close combat support.

The reason is that the General in charge of the change was bribed with a multi million dollar salary on the board of directors when he retires from the Army. That's how the Military-Industrial complex works.

HMMWV was already a big vehicle. Now Oshkosh L-ATV will be just HUGE! in off road size frequently is a problem, weight as well. and bigger target is easier to hit...

The real question. Do these new vehicles break down while parked overnight like the hmmmv? It aint a real military vehicle unless it mysteriously falls apart at night and works like a charm by day.
@xiaoweitan67546 жыл бұрын
well its like suv and sedan, the new one will roll over easier than old one because its narrower and taller and heavier which mean will slide off in a angle. new one is just not as balanced as old one. that is what i see in this video.

or focus on a vehicle that actually runs and does not need a new engine every 1000 miles, this is caused by that the military butheads are running hummvies on kerosene instead of diesel

The engine choice is a mistake... Nothing to say about "duramax" but a Caterpillar C10 will be stronger and.....nothing pulls like a CAT!
@ImYourHucklebery1175 жыл бұрын
CAT engines are a piece of shit, I've seen cat service trucks on a international or other brands, they don't trust their engine. Plus this is not build as a semi to pull heavy loads, it's a light tactical vehicle.

We made the most ugliest vehicle I've seen so fare! Nice going USA it's a jeep gremlin !
@miketaylor52125 жыл бұрын
just keep making them heavier the humvee was already a pretty large vehicle not nearly as nimble as a jeep being in the military comes with certain occupational risks like dieing or getting disabled whatever happened to light infantry to pin them and then send in the heavy to destroy them. the enemy will always find ways to disable or destroy vehicles.
@steviesteve51985 жыл бұрын
Much like the SCAR assault rifle vs the M4, the M1278 might have better specs, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a better vehicle when it comes to the whole picture.
