I've also been (and still am on the desktop) a lifelong windows user. In 2019/20 I was on the market for a laptop for on the couch and on the go. What I needed was a lightweight laptop with good battery life, a decent screen and a trackpad I don't immediately want to exchange for a mouse and no matter how much I researched, a slightly used 2018 Macbook Air always came back as the most affordable choice. For me, the trackpad made all the difference. To this day the trackpad is an afterthought on most windows laptops, even very expensive ones, and it angers me how little manufacturers care for the primary input device on their products. At the end of 2020 I sold the 2018 Macbook Air basically without a loss and switched to the then new M1 Macbook Air which serves me perfectly well to this day

if you do production/productivity, the new macs are pretty beasty. their IPC vs the x86 chips is seriously fantastic, and i give them props for that in spades. but, i need my systems to do EVERYTHING at the highest level. gaming, rendering, heavy multi-monitor use, live streaming while gaming and recording lossless high refresh at the same time, and that's only on ONE of the gaming systems in my single desktop tower.. the other gaming system runs 3 144hz monitors and my steering wheel... cuz iRacing... apple just doesnt have ANYTHING for people like me, even if you spend 50 grand....

Makes me regret upgrading to the 14 Pro Max a year or so ago. (Managed to snatch one refurbished at a bit cheaper price than the non-pro 15 would’ve been.) Neither gets any of the Apple intelligence stuff so there’s really no features that I’m getting on the 14 pro max that I wouldn’t have in the 11 Pro Max. (Except for the 120hz display and small tweaks here and there but compared to phones starting from the 15 Pro and upwards there’s a huge gap in support compared to any of the phones before it.) I was kinda holding out hope that the 14 Pro’s would get at least some of the features as the chip is the same as the “normal” 15 and surely they wouldn’t leave out the last years model but here we are. 🤷♂️ Surely the NPU in A16 could’ve done at least some of the stuff even if not everything that the one in A17 can. 😤

I upgraded my XS to a 16 Pro and I totally agree about the camera button. Quickly launching the camera is convenient but using it to swipe through things is too finicky. I’ll often get it to what I want and then go to press it to take a photo and change the settings in the process! It’s too awkwardly far to the left so you lose the comfort and fine motor skills and it takes a surprisingly high amount of pressure to press so it’s hard to keep steady. In portrait it’s too low to be useful and I just end up accidentally messing with the settings while gripping it.

As a photographer I can totally see what you mean when you mentioned the position of camera control. It really is in a bad spot and that absolutely has an impact on taking photos. When I use my 600mm lens I don't use the shutter button to focus. I use back button focusing. There is a dedicated button on the rear of the camera to engage the autofocus. The advantage of using the separate AF button on the rear and then the shutter button to take the photo is that the whole process of acquiring focus and then taking the shot feels a LOT more stable. I used to think it's nonsense to focus like that but once I got into longer telephoto lenses it had a profound impact on my photography. I suddenly had more sharp photos and less photos with camera shake. In my opinion they ruined camera control with that compromise to make it work for both landscape and horizontal shots... As for the iPhone 16 being so close to the Pro model this year, I think it's great. Even as an Android user. The customer won this one. Though I wonder if shoehorning AI into their phones is gonna bite them in the ass in the long run... The Pro and Pro Max models used to sell the most in previous generations. Now that they introduce AI and since they obviously want the experience with that to be the same across all iPhone 16 models they are basically pushing folks to buy the regular 16. It's more than "good enough" for most people now *and* you get a bunch of fun colors. Which really is super important! One of my colleagues chose the 15 Plus over the 15 Pro Max because she also wanted a pink phone!
@braixeninfection631222 күн бұрын
Yea the placement of the camera control button is too far centered. I find it awkward to use and hold. I'd much rather have it placed more to the outside. Vertical users be damned lol. Also I tried the back button focusing before but it always felt a bit odd to me. Never stuck with it long and since I mostly shoot 50mm primes it isn't a big deal to me.

You are the first reviewer that I encountered to mention the glitch of the screen flickering pink on the iPhone 16 when dimming before auto locking . I encountered that too! I changed my wallpaper and it didn’t happen again. I wish Apple addresses this since I really like the new stock wallpapers.

@@Franzotm Pixels deep fry photos and I absolutely cannot recommend them for photographers unless you plan on developing RAWs, in which case the sensor itself is pretty good. I am so disappointed with my Pixel 7 and use Gcam mods to get rid of their terrible processing, but you can do that on any phone. Just search "pixel overprocessed" or "pixel bad portraits" or "google pixel artifacts". The phone is shockingly bad at pictures of people and makes them look oily and overtextured. In anything that's black (like black clothes, or shadows) it cranks the black levels so hard that artifacts appear. It turns blue eyes black and blonde hair brown because the contrast is nuts. I have photos of my (deceased) grandmother that I can't show anyone because she looks way, way, more sick in them than she did in real life. After that I just started saving RAWs and processing them myself, defeating the entire purpose of the phone. If I open up the RAW and slide the contrast slider to 100% in snapseed, it still isn't as high contrast as the automatically processed Pixel JPEG. It's absurd. Pixel's used to be the natural option, and now they're probably the most overprocessed one. It might look great as a tiny square on Instagram, but it looks awful when you pull it up on a big display.

I think the refresh rate thing is overblown. I currently use an Android phone (but hope to get an iPhone soon) which is a budget model running at 60hz and it's plenty fast and smooth. iOS is known for being even smoother than android so a 60hz iPhone must feel great. Having said that, the iPhone 17 will most likely get Pro Motion because it's that far along now in Apple's roadmap that they plan to add it anyway. It's like LCD - people were complaining for years that iPhone still had LCD vs OLED on android but Apple persisted with LCD because they had OLED planned on the roadmap years down the line, and when that time came they switched. In the meantime they perfected LCD, literally there is no better LCD panel than an Apple LCD panel, And I suspect we'd still have had lightning on the iPhone this year if the EU hadn't forced Apple to usb c. I think the plan was to have the 17 iPhone have Pro Motion and usb c. Remember also that AFAIK only Apple displays are calibrated for P3 colour gamut which is superior to sRGB which most other displays use. And you can see the difference.

Still got an 11 on my side and wanted to upgrade for a long time now. I'll probably will go with the 15, though, as I'm not a fan of the action or camera button. Software glitches out, as also seen during this video, so I just want the piece of mind of pushing actual buttons

I have a 14 ProMax and for the first time I'm not upgrading after the 2 year term. The only feature that really tempts me is the usb-c speeds... but that isn't worth the price.

Upgraded from an iPhone 11 that has served me well. The addition of satellite messaging was the main reason I upgraded. As a backpacker / hiker, I want to retire my rather aged inReach as Garmin is slowly dropping support my 10 yr old unit. I had great success using the satellite messaging on a recent Utah trip with friends. We were able to communicate as we spread out to find campsite options. (No cell service in the area.). We were also able to get messages out from slot canyons at the same difficulty experienced with the inReach. Finally, I initially didn’t like the camera button, but I found it very useful when making quick snapshots and video shorts on the go. I hated my first case with a cutout, but found the OtterBox case through Apple with the conductive button to be a better solution for my use.

I was at the Paris Ice Caves in Idaho (drove up from utah) to practice rappelling a few months ago. We then went canyoneering in Capitol Reef national park last month. All the while, my mom's friend's iphone 14 pro had the option to send and receive text messages via satellite. What a game changer if we would have gotten lost!

I kinda trapped myself in the Pro lineup a few years ago when I got myself the 13 Pro. Certain Pro-only features probably won't come to the base models for many years, if ever, and losing them isn't really worth it. Thankfully, I upgraded last year, so I won't need a new phone for a while.

The only reason I did upgrade from an iPhone 13 Pro to the 16 Pro this year was because the iPhone XR my girlfriend was using started to become a burden and a risk factor. To be honest we were just hoping it would even survive daily usage until September at some points this last year.

i upgraded from iphone 14 to iphone 16 pro... the camera is amazing, though i wished they added a bigger sensor in there. it isn't a huge difference from the 15 pro max i think, but the pro log and stuff is amazing.

I think a good win would be if ‘Pro Motion’ just gets an upgrade. The pro phones get 240 screens and then the base phones get pushed to 120. That would be a win for everybody 😂

Probably not worth the battery trade off if I had to guess, but it would be cool!

Apple took several more years than other companies to add 120 Hz because it's conservative about battery. I think you actually won't see 240 Hz in the next five years as a minimum. Or it never happens. Just give the $800 phone 120 Hz since that's ridiculous that it's not there.
@faudanke445923 күн бұрын
@@joeykeilholz925Yep, it’s because of LTPO tech in my opinion. The 13 pro was the first to have 120hz and it has an LTPO display. Maybe once we get 240hz panels we’ll finally see 120hz on non-pro iphones, might as well add to that AOD. Apple is very conservative when it comes to their phones’ power efficiency and it’s actually understandable.

7:31 It feels great to finally hear from someone to have to save issue as I do. And it really feels like a gamechanger that it’s now adjustable afterwards. Because in general I do like the different styles a lot but i just felt uncomfortable with the idea that I always would have to adjust it.

My last phone was a 14, I now have the 16. I wanted to keep my 14 but it kept having bluetooth connectivity issues to the extreme and the price apple wanted me to pay for that was ridiculous. I had started having the issues with my 14 about 4 months ago. Prior to my 14 I had an 11 and loved it but out of the blue the Saturday after the launch of the 14 my 11 started having issues where half the screen (the left half) stopped responding to everything. After a week with the 16, its not bad. but a faster screen would probably be nice though I dont even notice it myself

The only reason I've bought a 13 Pro and 15 Pro Max instead of 13/15 is Pro Motion. However it feels nowhere near as smooth as other high refresh devices I own. The aggressive down clocking of the refresh rate on the pro motion display means it runs at about 80Hz. The iPhone won't run at 120Hz until it notices an extended period of motion.. Well I don't scroll for pages at a time. One annoyance of mine (not to do with the display) has always been the swipe up after unlocking with FaceID. The icons flowing in is soo console barely 30fps it hurts.

I was so close yesterday to trading my 13 Pro Max for a 16 Plus but I just can't get over that 60Hz display after 2 years of ProMotion. And the camera control? It's a gimmick. For me at least; I'm a lefty, therefore it's very convenient for me to open the camera from the lock screen and snap the picture old fashioned way using the vol. down button. So I followed my gut and switched to a 15 Pro Max.

I upgraded from a 13 pro to a 16 plus due to: 1- Battery Life 2- Lightning x USB C port (the type of the port, not the speed 3- Compatibility with Intelligence. PS: Although I’m a RTR advocate, I don’t want to remain on iPhone 13 Pro until I have a easier way to replace my battery whenever I reach

I’m probably gonna wait another year or two to upgrade, but I’m excited about some of the new stuff introduced with this iPhone. I hope they’re able to improve on the camera control button in the next couple of years before I get my hands on it, lol (my current phone is the iPhone 11 Pro)

Apple probably won't introduce 120hz in the base model anytime soon because they see it as a selling point for the pro models. same reason the 16 only has usb 2 speeds vs usb 3 speed on the pro and pro max.
