I just watched the TPT documentary on MInnesota Hardcore - and discovered my old buddy - the photo was 1984 the doc said - so he was 13 years old - as the "2nd wave." I played the Entry when I was 16 years old. I saw hardcore bands there and the main room. Yes Husker Du was graffiti on the old West high school in Uptown. Even for us youngsters - the vibe was in the air.

Steve Faure Interesting observation. IMO this is probably the best of all KZbin / Matts offerings. Super-tight...everyone spot-on. As years progressed, Paul’s songwriting developed a bit of Beatles-like tune-full clever sweetness that when combined with Bob’s more “hardcore” sensibility created tension..and...some really great output that was probably better than they themselves appreciated.

Bob especially added something special. I was amazed they even tried to carry on without him. The story goes that when they went to Memphis to record demos for ‘Pleased To Meet Me’, the plan was to break up right there in the studio, but I guess they had a change of heart. PTMM is a good album, but pretty far removed from what came before. At that point it turned into the Paul show. Once Chris was out that should have been the end, but the end didn’t take long to come after that. Something like six months.
