Thanks everyone for all your kind words. The 2020 Great Guitar Build Off was so much fun and a terrific distraction during a difficult time. We would like to thank Crimson Guitars for coming up with and sponsoring this this event. It was not an easy process and they should be commended for all the hard work. We are honored to have been included with all the exceptionally talented competitors who took time out of their lives to make this build-off something truly remarkable. All the instruments offer a unique glimpse into the builder’s creative perspectives and we are humbled to have shared the stage with so many skilled artisans. We were lucky enough to get to know some of you and have had so much fun trying to make the world a more fun place through friendship and guitar building. We urge everyone to deep dive into the massive talent pool that is the “Un-Official” portion of this event. This is where the rubber meets the road and the builders here are imposing their will on the workshop and dominating any materials that dare to resist. Your efforts have earned the respect of the guitar community.

Tamar should have been a bit higher, that design was great. Dan could definitely have been a couple of places up as well. Phil had probably the most beautiful guitar, but he didn't do it all himself did he? Wonderbread guitars had the most extreme build, but I'm not sure I'd want to gig with it. As for Diresta, if it was being marked I'd give him a "U". The fact he's only one place below Tamar is depressing.

I think there were other factors in where Phil placed -- they missed the submission deadline, and plus some assholes screwed with the ebay auction, bidding it up with no intention to actually pay. Sucks, but even Phil said he should not win. Phil's a classy guy, IMO.

Great job, and thank you for putting together this awesome video! (and everything else of course) I see a number of comments about the amazing work that Dan and Tamar did, among others. Let's all keep in mind what a significant role the handicap system played in the rankings. Not to detract at all from any of the beautiful work done by any of the builders, but you can see how a smaller channel like mine would rank high as a result of the math. In the end, beautiful guitars raised a lot of money for great causes and that's what matters.

My thoughts too. Tamar’s guitar was amazing!!! I was surprised and bummed that she placed so low. But... she’s not really a guitar builder. Same with Jimmy Diresta. I guess we can’t be too surprised that the custom guitar builders finished ahead of the woodworker/cabinet maker.

Yeah she raised more donations than BigD and auctioned for more than BigD. not sure how much the views/likes.subscriptions thing made things fairer or not. IMO the reality is she did at least as well as most of the others in this list and the ranking is more of a close call than a meaningful rank.

Absolute crime that Tamar and Dan were both so low on the board. Credit to Angove and Crimson for interesting approaches to the body, but the other builds struck me as fairly straight-forward otherwise. Even the triple-neck was... "just" a triple-neck. Tamar and Dan brought truly unique ideas to the wiring as well as the finishing and body design -- thought theirs were the most beautiful designs by far. Congratz to the Wonderbread Boys, Brad Angove, BigD, Guns&Guitars, 3x3 and Crimson. This big push this year helped to get the wagon rolling. Without the winners, that would be far slower. By taking it over the top, it also will be a bit calmer in that regard cause it was already done. The unofficial entries have lots of a-mazing stuff in the works. A guitar that looks like local cows, an Icecream Sandwich of some bonehead, huge walnut binding, setbacks, SciFi stuff and more. I hope that you can get that raffle going next year. Lots of people have some loose money but can't get a guitar or bass of that level. There'll be a lot more green for the charities and more new traffic on the channels as well. Next time, you all should link to your videos in your ebay auctions to insure that someone who just stumbles over your guitar on ebay can be sucked in from both directions.

Obviously yours has the most concentrated and intense labor crammed into it, which made it fascinating to watch. For me, this was an inspiring competition. I resumed guitar building after a lapse of about 37 years. Cooped up because of our shelter in place, I dusted off some old templates I drew in high school and started making sawdust again. Since then I’ve put five guitars on the wall, and am about to try building my own necks. As a designer and builder, I won’t be satisfied until I can truly call myself a luthier, and again, the gang that makes up the 2020 GGBO has opened my eyes to the possibilities.

Impressed with the builds, but no surprise there. More impressed with the overall enthusiasm that the builders put into the competition and the results of their respective labours. Each instrument had its own unique features and discussion will no doubt rage over winners and losers. But in the end there are 8 very lucky guitar buyers around the world and who knows how many lucky recipients of the fine work the charities will no doubt do with the money raised. Ben, you and your team are stars for organising this. In a troubled and somewhat awful year, this has been a ray of sunshine for all concerned. While I may never be able to afford one of your fine guitars, I feel richer for having played a tiny tiny part in this venture. You have my eternal thumbs up.

Great competition, I looked foreword to all the new videos as they came out. Ben has to be my favorite single neck. Fearless in design and unbelievable patience in execution. Texas Toast brought a gun to a knife fight, clearly, and deserved the win. Kudos to all involved, it has been awesome!

A great effort all round, no real surprise on the winner there, TT threw everything at with clear intent!! most of the guitars had something I loved... Dan's headstock, Derek's finish and figuring, Brad's Body shape, Ben's Concept and execution, Tamar's Veneer, Matt and Chris's ballsy design, Phil's approach... the only disappointment was Diresta and enough has been said about that... the big winners are the charities, glad to see so much raised. Watching luthiery vids on youtube has been a real haven for me during lockdown, so thank you to all the official and unofficial entries for a never ending supply!! Now I'm contemplating some teak I have stashed away and whether I'm brave enough to do something with it!! Thanks to all xxx

Establish for next year, the rule that the guitar body that you provide is the one that must be used.

Great series all round, very enjoyable viewing and good introductions into other makers channels! Not that you asked for it, but in my opinion, orders of final guitar preference for all round reasons including skill, buyability/desirability, video personality, ambition: Texas Toast Ben Crowe Dan Thompson Phil McKnight Derek Lenard Tamar Hannah Brad Angove Jimmy Diresta

Absolutely loved every minute of this, and to be fair, I think any of the top 7 could have won. All fantastic builds. Congrats to everyone involved and what a great chunk for the charities too. I actually wrote a summary article for the competition on music website. I had to summarise each build in not-many words but hopefully got the gist. The article is here (if you allow links in comments, if not no worries) :-) www.empeda.com/great-guitar-build-off-2020-results/ Bring on 2021!

Unbiasedly for Ben’s industrial/medieval take on the BFG. It’d be so metal on a viking ship’s prow. Wow!
