The funny thing about KZbin is that, if you think of something, like you figure out that you have a problem - and then you imagine that you might be able to come up with a solution. And you ask yourself, "I wonder if someone on KZbin has already done it and can tell me exactly what to do to fix my problem - that is right in line with what I thought I could do?" ... and then you go search those keywords on KZbin or Google..... And then viola! There's someone that has done exactly what you imagined and has produced a video telling you exactly how to do what you imagined, so you don't have to go through the trial and error to learn how to get it done yourself! THANK YOU!!!! Bravo Zulu!!!! And yes, I love my Rodecaster PRO!!! Loved the video and subscribed. Black Dragon BSFFBS

In essence, all we get is a glorified 4 channel mic mixer, with a Bluetooth channel, a headset jack channel, in case Bluetooth isn’t working as good, and a line channel for audio from the PC it is connected to. If it wasn’t for the phone integration and buttons to put sounds on, this would be little more, than an audio interface with faders instead of gain knobs. As you’re paying for having that mess of a feature set in one device, while still needing a mic + stand and your laptop to use it on the go, I cannot say this is so much simpler to travel with, given I’ve been traveling with all that stuff (interface , mic, stand, shockmount, cables, laptop, mouse) before. And at home, there are better feature sets to get by going for seperate devices instead. That’s how I feel about it. Still hope you have a good time using it.
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
It’s all about your needs, of course. For me, I don’t want to need a computer to record, so this is perfect as it has plenty of inputs, headphone amps, sounds, and recording abilities all in one. As an interface, there are definitely cheaper options, but for all in one simple production, I love this thing.

I've been using it for almost a year. The only issue I have with it ist that Mix-Minus is also removing voice processing from the microphone in windows. It still sounds decent without voice processing. But it is kinda annoying for a plug and play livestreaming solution. You can of course disable mix-minus but that limits the device quite a bit. I wrote a mail to rode and I do hope they will fix it. It's sadly still the case in the latest beta.

You have helped me get to 100,000 downloads with my podcast that is 6 months old with all of your tutorials. Thanks you. I use the rodecaster, and usually have guests call in. Here is a question that I don’t expect to get answered, but maybe you can help. I have an iPhone 10s max that is wired to the rodecaster cia the usb (computer) port. It records a wide shot of the podcast and gives me the good audio from my pod mics. I have a pc laptop that is Bluetooth Connected to the rodecaster so listeners can here any clips we play during the podcast through the iPhone video. I have OBS on the laptop. I have a guest that wants to call in on zoom. My question is: How can I keep the wide shot with audio and video from the iPhone but also record the zoom call so I can then edit it to just show the guest’s face when he is talking? Since the laptop is Bluetoothed to the rodecaster, the audio will be good, but I’m not sure how to edit the two together. (I will have a video/audio file from the iPhone and a video audio file from the laptop) Does OBS allow me to just clip sections of when the guest is talking d put it on the screen?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Wow! Congrats on such a milestone! You should be able to use just about any editing software to overlay to Zoom recording on top of the audio from the RCP. If you’re on a Mac, iMovie is free, and Davinci Resolve is also good free software (if you don’t already have an editor you like).

Thank you.
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
I really recommend this video from Peter Gregg. It's a bit long, but he covers EVERYTHING you need to get a live stream up and running and looking pro: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYOpcpeMpZWnjqc But to answer your questions: 1. The Rodecaster takes XLR inputs, so if your wireless mic has an XLR receiver, it'll work. 2. The Peter Gregg video linked above will guide you through the setup for a video podcast. The tech part is the same, and then you can use streaming software to determine which platform you want to send it to. 3. You can connect a computer or phone to the TRRS port on the Rodecaster to play music. 4. My suggestion is to start simple and upgrade as your needs become apparent. Don't buy an entire studio at once and become overwhelmed. Get the basics, and your own unique workflow will help you figure out where to go from there. Best of luck!

I have the Rodecaster pro, I had some nice cameras that were stolen and I could only afford a canon t7. I am really fighting the production of this podcast. I won’t do an audio only podcast, however, if my content gains traction I’d look into releasing audio-only. I’ve been trying to record a video podcast with obs. Not doing well. I just want to sync the camera with the Rodecaster and my MacBook Pro, however my camera lags when I use the eos web utility. Like badly lags. I’m at my wits end as I have guests lined up, I have in studio music lined up, I’ve put a lot into this and my tech guy wound up going on a “vacation.” Now I’m the personality and the producer/sound/video/promotions guy and this stuff is all new to me. Any help would be incredibly appreciate. I enjoy your videos, I’m just completely out of my usual space. Thank you.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
If the video element is causing that much trouble, I'd encourage you to either simplify it down as much as possible, or just go audio only for now. I know that video podcasts are really popular, but for many people, the audiences still just listen and glance over at the screen every once in a while. For me, that's not worth the extra effort of bringing in video. Of course, simple recording your interviews using whatever software you're doing them through is the easiest way to do it. You can add an audio delay through an app like OBS (free) or Ecamm (paid, but better) to handle any sync issues.

@tombuck5 жыл бұрын
In theory, you SHOULD be able to add a Skype source via Bluetooth to TRSS cable, either of which will have it’s own volume slider on the Rodecaster. OBS will just see the unit as one audio source, so any mixing will need to be done before the output. I hope that’s along the lines of what you needed?

This is a longshot... I've been using my Rodecaster Pro for quite some time, with no issues and all of a sudden tonight when firing up OBS to stream... it stopped feeding audio to OBS/Windows. What makes this weird is that my mic is still showing that it's being picked up by the Rodecaster itself on the built in display and even the companion software in windows, but it won't give any audio to OBS, Discord, Games, Windows Mic Settings... anything. I've tried resetting the device, power cycling, different XLR cables, USB cables, everything and I can't get it to work like it did just 2 days ago... I doubt you'll see this or be able to help, but I'm giving it a shot.

HEy Tom. Great video. I am using the rodecaster pro with OBS and Zoom. I am having a problem with hearing zoom audio from my zoom caller on my facebook broadcast. A video on the correct settings when using all of these together would be great. I looked into it and they say you need virtual audio cables. I got them but it's still very confusing.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
You could try running your Zoom audio into the smartphone channel on the Rodecaster with a 3.5mm cable coming from your computer's headphone output. Then you can still select the rodecaster as the Zoom audio source, so everyone in the call can hear you, and you can turn off USB Mix Minus and select the Rodecaster as the audio source for Facebook. I'm not 100% sure this would work and it could cause an echo for the people on Zoom, but it's worth a shot. As for virtual routing, I also have a video coming out about Loopback, which might be a good solution. If you have a Mac it would let you create a "virtual audio device" where you combine Zoom audio and Rodecaster audio and then select that device in Facebook.

What about bringing on a video guest? I'm trying to do this using my Zoom L-8 and Ecamm live. Ecamm is super easy for me compared to OBS. But, my guest is getting echo when we bring them in as video guest because sounds from the computer (the guest) goes to the board (so hosts can monitor it), but then the guest hears the entire mix, which means they hear themselves and get an echo. I'm between beginner and intermediate knowledge of audio. There an audio mixer in OBS, there's an audio mixer in ATEM Mini Control Software, Rodecaster Pro is a mixer. I already own 2 capture cards. If I'm making a video podcast (1 camera + screen share for guests), what are step-up benefits for each way of solving the audio requirements? Confused. I put a premium on clean audio and ease of self-production.

They could each probably handle it on their own. OBS can do everything, but is an absolute pain to set up and use. ATEM has a pretty decent software mixer for audio, but your inputs are limited. The Rodecaster is a dedicated audio mixer/recorder/interface with the benefit of physical buttons/sliders.

I am thinking about purchasing this device and all the reviews and tutorials look great. My only question is with the 2.0 firmware update. I am unclear whether there exists an option to mute the speaker outputs automatically when enabling one of the mic channels. Coming from traditional radio, this is a standard feature on broadcast mixers so as to prevent feedback. It is also great as an indicator that the microphones are muted and hosts can hear commercials or music without necessarily wearing headphones.

I think I get where you’re coming from. I used to work at a tv station, and this was similar to our audio setup there, but the Rodecaster doesn’t have an automatic mute option (or if it does, I haven’t found it).

Awesome video! Do you record your KZbin videos straight to OBS or to the SD card? What are the pros and cons?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
I go straight to the SD card to keep the R’s high bitrates and awesome quality. 👍

Couldn't you of muted your mic & phone channels respectively as you used each?

You can definitely do that if it works for you.

How can I remove my microphone audio from my monitors? I'm using my Rodecaster for live streaming and Zoom, and I want to be able to hear the audio from my zoom call but not hear my microphone audio in my speakers. At the moment when I fade up my mic I get feedback
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Try playing with the mute and solo buttons to see if you can find a combo that works. You might want to start by soloing and muting your audio while only soloing the other person’s audio.

Hey man! I think I've asked this before, but I am now coming back to this. How do you connect this to two PC's? I have a GOXLR Mini, but want more inputs. Will this be a good replacement?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
This will give you 4 XLR inputs, so definitely more. But to answer your first question, as far as I know there isn't a way to connect to more than one computer.

Tom, Where you been all my life... lol I just stumbled to your videos and I would have to say, your vids and your knowledge is very well respected! I've been wanting to start a podcast, and I too have the Roadcaster Pro. I hope I can bug you for some impute as for cameras and such and the do's and don't of this whole thing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Tony

Hey Tony! Thanks for the kind words. Feel free to “bug” any time 👍

Hoping this gets seen. With the Rodecaster Pro added to OBS, is that all encompassing for everything or just my microphone? Mainly, would my discord chat need another input channel?

All of the RCP's channels will be used (multiple mics, sounds pads, etc).

Just like you make your videos for KZbin. I have a GoPro Hero 7. How do you hook up your Camera to the Rodecaster Pro to sync your Audio/Video
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Super simple- I must sync the audio and video files in final cut. 👍

Wow this is exactly what I was searching for! Particularly regarding the ability to incorporate the live phone calls. However, when on a live call through the rodecaster, can the caller here the different tracks/sound effects you might want to add in as well?

Yes, when they're connected, they'll hear the entire mix. Working on a video about that right now, actually 👍

Can you actually hookup another analog mixer on channels 3 and 4 and pan it hard left and right? Use case, I want to just feed this unit with a master L and R from an analog mixer that has the whole band house mix and feed it into the Rodeecaster. is this possible? :)
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
You can’t pan within the Rodecaster, but you could do it with an external mixer (which is what I think you’re asking) 👍

I just got a Rodecaster Pro. I'm trying to use the PC as both a interview source and also to send the audio out for livestreaming. However, Streamlabs OBS seems to not like the Multitrack device input. It shows a mono channel and the VU doesn't move. However, the Stereo Out (that contains the mix-minus) does seem to work. Obviously that would be a problem for the way I want to use it. I'm not sure if I should contact RODE regarding the driver or Streamlabs because their software isn't cooperating with the driver (most other applications are working so far I'm finding).
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
It's probably an OBS issue, but I'm sure there's a solution. You mentioned mix minus- have you turned on USB mix minus in the menu? I don't have an exact answer, but I'm confident that there's a fix.
@Paullaskovids3 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Yeah mix minus is on and that works fine on it's associated output device to the computer, but it's the Multitrack mode audio device that SLOBS appears to dislike. It all works in other applications it seems. What I'm doing is using the computer for both the call source with the regular Stereo output and mix minus enabled set in the communication app input device like their tutorial says and the Multitrack output as the audio source in SLOBS. SLOBS appears to not like the Multitrack mode device that has the 14 outputs and is supposed to carry the master out on ch1 & 2.

Great video. What camera do you use for OBS? We use Elgato Camlink for PC but it does not work on Mac.

I use the Camlink with my Mac and no problems (along with the EOS R), that’s actually what I was going to recommend. For me, it’s always been plug and play. 🤷🏻♂️

well i got a quarter of my question answered in this video......so to record video with the audio, would you run the camera into the OBS program? if so what kind of camera is recommended?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
You can either sync audio to your video in an editing program, or run the camera and Rodecaster into OBS to record “live”. Any camera will work, but you’ll likely need an hdmi capture card/device for the computer. The elgato camlink works great for that.
@Sebastian1989104 жыл бұрын
Does the Rodecaster Pro also act as a DAC (maybe even with amp functionality) to put a headphone in it and hear the audio from the computer while the computer receives the input from the mics? So basicly that it would be possible to use voice software like TeamSpeak and Discord just with the Roadcaster Pro?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I do it all the time with Zoom and Facetime.

@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how you've got your setup going, but if the rodecaster os connected to your computer via USB, you should be able to bring up the USB channel volume and hear the computer. You may have to select the Rodecaster as an output source on your computer first though.

We are hosting a live stream through OBS using Rodecaster Pro Audio setup. We create OBS NINJA as a browser source for a guest interview. If we select in properties control audio via OBS, the guest can hear the hosts but the hosts can't hear the guest. and if we deselect the reverse occurs. Is there another audio source we require when using Rodecaster Pro. Thanks
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
I haven't used Ninja myself, but I'm guessing that there's something happening with the audio in/out from a browser source. I wish I had a clearer answer for you, but there must be a setting somewhere that can take care of the issue.
