The Sao were giants who lived around the lake Chad basin a long long time ago, according to legend. They had a clay civilisation, as archaeological evidence shows. They buried their dead in clay pots. According to myth, they had extra ordinary strength - it is said one man could lift an elephant. Is there any truth in this? The Sao left no written records of themselves, but archaeological evidence, of their existence, artifacts produced by the Sao, sometimes dated to around 900BC exists around the lake Chad basin in places like Goulfey and Kousseri in Cameroon. Are tribes like the Mousgoum and the Kotoko who now inhabit this part of the world truly the descendants of the Sao as they claim? They are certainly very tall people. This documentary presents some of the archaeological evidence of the lifestyle of the Sao.
