@@coryroberts7519 Yes you do, better late than never, and by the way, check out Mike's "McGEAR" album, you will LOVE it, and of course the other SCAFFOLD albums, FUN songs. By the way, Mike is also a fantastic photographer, starting with his pics of Paul and the fledgling Beatles, and his more recent black and white photographs. He is also a lovely man, with that great Liverpudlian sense of humor. I was so lucky to meet him several times over the years. Dear dear man.

As you will know if you listen to the record, the lyric here is very different. I guess they were restricted to a three-minute time slot and therefore - maybe to obtain maximum impact - decided to jumble up the lines (including repeating the one about going into a "home") and to parody American gospel in the final verse. Scaffold = punks before their time
@garrisonaw5 жыл бұрын
If they hadn't sung it so bloody slow, they could have sung all the lyrics in that same three minutes. Frankly, I think they must have had a bit of Medicinal Compound before the show, and just couldn't remember the words.

True! The lyrics didn't all make sense, ie the jokes did not work - so I tried another result that came up in google: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2jTeXelf9elsKM, over 4 minutes long and all the jokes 'work'. This one has a great video though.

This hit by The Scaffold was the 228th #1 song of the Rock Era in the United Kingdom. It was the last #1 song of 1968 and first #1 song of 1969 in the UK. What will the music scene be like in the UK in 1969? As the late Casey Kasem always said, "Stay tuned."

A great song that brings back many happy memories, just a pity that half of it's missing.

Anytime I listen to this song I wonder: Whatever has happened to music nowadays? Lily The Pink is as phantastic as Nelly the Elephant (by the Toy Dolls). Absolutely underrated, funny, perfectly imperfect, simply uncomparable, great! Grinning greetings from Hanover, Germany, to all followers of intelligent music

Look up the MonaLisa Twins. They sing (and play) lots of 60s songs, also a lot of very good original music.

I last heard this when I was 7, and even I can tell they muddled up all the words.

They were actually the first rock "supergroup" - the combination of Paul McCartney's brother, Arthur Scargill and Woody Allen is by any measure a truly awesome line up. They're obviously taking the mick in this version as they're mixing up the verses.

@herbieabroad. I HOPE you were joking! NOT "Arthur Scargill and Woody Allen"" It's John Gorman and Roger McGough with Mike "McGear" McCartney. Just to clarify to other people in case you were joking!

@@patticrichton1135 Gosh, how lovely to see a reply after all this time! Fear not, I was indeed joking :) I just thought John Gorman slightly had the Scargill look and Roger McGough was wearing glasses, which was enough to prompt a Woody Allen comparison. No offence was meant, apologies if any was caused. Love a lot of their stuff, I have a much listened to CD, would love to have seen them live.

You should say Paul McCartney's more Talented Brother!
