This is really disturbing that a guy with a new account can essentially get a $500 item for free off someone who has had a good reputation for years. That's complete bs and something needs to be done about it. There should at least be an option with one of these mail carriers to have them verify contents or at least take a photo when you hand it off to them. If I see a new account buy an expensive item from me I'll probably cancel the transaction after seeing this. I'm glad you at least got it in appeal again. Keep fighting guys.

ebay's buyer protection policy allows a buyer to win as many auctions as he or she wants, and then lay claims on all of them. Never sell items on ebay that you wouldn't simply give away as the buyer is perfectly legit in claiming non shipment or shipment of sand for as many items as the buyer wishes. Ebay will always side with the buyer because ebay no longer wants sellers on their site; only buyers.Sound ass backward? Welcome to Ebay

@generryan55457 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. If your state has a "long arm statute" you can file a case against a buyer from the comfort of your own state. You can sue the buyer for any damages including item cost, court fees and also your attorney's fee. You can both sue the buyer, PayPal, or the credit card company he used to do the scam. You can sue the buyer 4 times the item's cost, the chargeback fee, and all court fees.

This is why i stopped selling high value items on ebay. I got to the point where i was so paranoid i had to video tape my self showing proof the product works, then package the item, and handing it directly to the postal worker. They all knew me as the camera guy.
@rebelscum63567 жыл бұрын
One thing with lower priced items, though. If it's too low of a price, it's not worth it to ask for the buyer to send the product back. If you sell a $15 product and the shipping is $6, is it worth it to ask the buyer to return the item? I don't think it is. However, the buyer could be scamming you banking on the presumption that you won't ask for the item to be returned.

I have tremendous compasion for you. I went through a similar frustration earlier this year. I was scammed by an eBay buyer for a Ralph Lauren leather jacket that was purchased for over $500. I spent so much time over the phone with eBay and PayPal and was assured that I would either receive the item back or the money. I never received neither, and the scamming buyer made out with a free jacket. It is really easy for a buyer to scam someone on eBay, and pretty easy to win a case. The system has holes in it, and needs attention. Best wishes! -Steven

Thanks for keeping us updated on this! My blood was boiling right along with Adrian on that first paypal rep, that was frustrating. Paypal better take care of this or they are going to open up a huge problem that could potentially snowball with scammers. I cant even imagine having to try to prove every item you shipped out... i think that is why ebay has a feedback system. They know you are an honest seller. Things seem to have fallen apart on communication since ebay and paypal split, that is unfortunate. Hope they do the right thing. Good luck!
@wwtt5147 жыл бұрын
I've encountered similar situations to this as well both PayPal and eBay has a bias toward the buyer and against the seller. they take the buyers word because they feel that they need them more than the seller and will make every effort to lookout for the buyer. for instance a seller can't even leave negative feedback against the buyer on ebay.

Good for you guys! I love to see sellers stand up for themselves, because too many times I see in these videos where sellers just let things go and chalk it up to a cost of doing business. If more sellers like you guys would file complaints against these fraudulent buyers, there would be less of them trying to run these scams and it will be better for all of us sellers. I always report fraudulent buyers to eBay, so they at least have some type of flag on their account. If they get too many flags, then they get suspended or booted off of eBay. At the very least, they will lose any claims they file with the next seller because of too many flags on their account. I hope you guys win the appeal, and I hope you prosecute the guy. Good luck!

To be fair that's not Paypals fault they had no way to know that the card was stolen if the original owner didn't say anything, when they realised the card was stolen by law they would have had to have given the money back to the original card owner, they have no way to get the laptop back as they are legally not allowed to go to the persons house to take it by force nore will the seller send it back if asked to so that part of it is up to the police to deal with PayPal was not to blame and if you didn't get the laptop back that's down to the police

I've had a similar situation happen, but for a smaller amount. Buyer opened eBay case and lost. Then opened a PayPal case and lost. Then about a month later the buyer disputed the charges with the credit card company. Not sure if the buyer won with the credit card company, but PayPal sent me a message that it would cover the chargeback if needed because I won the PayPal case. Mine was a foreign buyer through the eBay global shipping program. Valid tracking showing it was delivered was all I needed to win.

I had several people try to scam me out of some Jordan's and Air Max 90's on eBay. Now whenever I sell popular shoes or expensive items I require signature at delivery. It only costs $2.60 and it gives me a little more peace of mind. Disgusting that PayPal would side with that scumbag despite all the business that Pete has given them.
@LostMountainRestoration7 жыл бұрын
Good for you that you are fighting this. Most would just consider it a cost of doing business and move on. As a result of your videos, I now video record my packaging of expensive items and leave the camera running as I take it the 2 miles up the road to the Post Office. I don't know if this "evidence" would sway a fraud case in my favor, particularly since a computer is making the decisions, but I don't know what else to do. Once the word spreads among the scammers, you will see this more and more. Good luck and I look forward to updates.

You can set your ebay account so people who have no feedback or have had strikes against them will not be able to buy or bid on your items. I had to do it because I would get new buyers constantly not paying. Save yourself the headache. Ebay has changed and no longer back the seller. It also does not help that Ebay and Paypal are fully seperate now but you have to have Paypal to successfully sell on Ebay.

I made it to 5 min and was already to upset to keep going. I had a decently successful ebay business several years ago, it was growing and I was happy with it. Through two cases I realized that ebay so favored the buyer that it was just not practical for a small business dealing in high value items (coins, gold and silver) to do business on ebay. I removed all of my 40ish listings on one day and have not sold an item on ebay for over 3 years. Buy on there almost everyday but just cant bring myself to sell on there again. They have increasingly sold out to the larger businesses anyway. Now at least in the gold silver business top 4-6 companies control 70+% of the bullion market. The fees are also insane to sell. I believe more and more that ebay is becoming or has become a market that you need higher knowledge to not over pay or get scammed. Every single day there are thousands of fake gold and silver coins sold on ebay, they know about this and they do not care!

I had something similar happen with Amazon. I sold an $800 camera lens to somebody ,and he admitted he got the item but then changed his mind about wanting to keep it. I was fine with him getting a refund, but he wouldn't send it back because he'd stalled me over the 30 day limit when I could get Amazon to cover the shipping, and then pretended like he didn't trust anybody else to send the package back besides Amazon and would only use an official Amazon shipping sticker, which I couldn't provide because it was too late. He now owns both my lens and my $800, and I've never done business on Amazon ever again.

I sent a lot of time giving the information and the proof that it was sent and received but eBlob told me that it was not the customer who signed it. After many/many exchanges the money for the camera & shipping were deducted from my account. No reason given. I did not record the information by video as you have done.
