I grew up in Chicago and have gone to Bachelors Grove. There is a group that helps take care of the cemetery. It was fun going there. But we we're respectful of the cemetery.

They cleaned up the cemetery quite a bit. I remember many years ago it was overgrown and looked pretty bad. Now they cut the grass and monitor the grounds a lot more.

That was nice. Thank you 😊 for posting this. I think it's an absolute disgrace, as well as disgusting, that someone would desecrate a cemetery like that. To tear down, kick over, spray paint a tombstone, that someone put up to commemorate a deceased loved one is pure hateful and gutless. I've heard stories of this happening over time, and, too me, it's just inconceivable that someone would do this. Especially with tombstones dating back to the early to mid 1800s. Why would anyone in their right mind want to do this, let alone steal a headstone? Sorry 😐, but I can't fathom it. As for your encounter, I don't know what to say. I'm just glad you 3 weren't harmed in any way. I look forward to your next video 😊. 1/17/24.

Thank you. Agreed. It's disgusting and deplorable that anyone would destroy someones grave. Each time I visit Bachelors Grove, more stones are either missing or moved to different places, it's sad. Yeah I'm glad we left when we did, it was a scary experience.

Great video, love the history behind it. That is really crazy about the orbs, It makes sense to me that they’d be in the woods rather than in the open, energy wise, more there in the trees than open space. Enjoyed this, thanks.

I live 15 minutes away from Bachelor's Grove. Across the Midlothian Turnpike, there's a nice trail that I like to frequent that's part of Rubio Woods. There's certainly something creepy yet special about that graveyard, and I've been to a LOT of creepy places! You ALWAYS feel watched there. I agreed so much when you mentioned how the walk down the old road is scarier than the graveyard itself! Everything, even the birds and the rustling of the trees in the wind, goes dead silent. You always want to keep checking your back, just to make sure nothing is stalking you. There's certain areas of the graveyard that are unnaturally cold, even on the hottest summer days. That pond is terrifying. It's a mosquito breeding ground and it has this very specific, pungent odor that makes you feel dizzy. I remember going there with a friend one Halloween (its our tradition) and the pond would sometimes bubble and make these gurgling sounds, like something or someone was drowning. That same day, we also encountered a doe that walked right in front of us, STARED at us for an entire minute, and jumped into the underbrush. Believe it or not, it's scarier to EXIT the graveyard than enter it. I dunno if it was just my friend and I, but we always brisk out of the graveyard because you almost feel like you're being chased by something you cannot see. When my friend and I left, he became SUPER nauseous and we both got massive migraines despite feeling fine beforehand. I also think the Turnpike is haunted - I remember one night while driving past Bachelor's Grove, my highbeams kept flickering, and I don't have automatic highbeams on my car. My friend was sitting shotgun and recording what was happening for their Instagram, and their phone went from like 90 percent to almost 30 percent! The video also never developed correctly, it was super fuzzy and glitchy. Also, ALWAYS leave something for the Infant Daughter! It's a bit of a tradition. Anyways, I love your channel, and how you cover so many Illinois paranormal spots! As a Chicagoan myself, I feel so seen! Illinois definitely has a lot of cool, creepy spots that often go unnoticed!

Man I used to live near that area about 20 years ago! In Tinley Park at 179 in oak park ave! I used to ride my bicycle through the trails in that area all the way through Midlothian! And pass through that cemetery! I always throw caution to the wind when riding through there! My hair from my back stands up! Eerie and creepy vibes! Never roamed alone through the cemetery though! My nephew sometimes used to accompany me. And that was during the day time! I never dared going at night! Now that I live in Tucson Arizona, I miss my old town! Someday I’ll go back and visit! Miss the food, my family and friends! Great video!♥️😎👍I forgot to mention that that place also used to be a mob hit dump ground way back in the 20s and through the 30s.

There are a lot of trails in the woods there. It's a great place to go for a walk during the day. I mentioned the mob dumping ground legend in the video. It is often said the pond was used by Capone for that purpose, but there's no proof it ever happened. It's definitely interesting though.

I have been to Bachelors Grove a few times back in the 90's. Something special about that cemetary. I always found it so strange no birds sounds inside the fence but you heard as you walked up. Also, there was a spot in the trail leading to the cemetary that had a big tree root sticking out of the ground. Once you crossed over the tree root there was a chill in the air. I even straddled the root and had arms extended out on both sides and felt the difference on my arms. It was summertime and in the mid 80's temp wise. You need to check out Resurrection Cemetary also. I have a great picture of the gates. Glad I found your channel.

I visited the cemetery on a ghost tour one October night some years ago. The visit was rather mundane-until we all witnessed some bluish lights flitting amongst the trees. We had no idea what they could be, certainly not vehicle lights or fireflies. We quickly got on the bus and headed for the next stop, Resurrection Cemetery, which was yet another experience.

About 1972 we were there a lot at night, I was 12 and we'd explore it. Some people had dug up a couple coffins and were too afraid to open them so they floated them in the lagoon. You could see part of them above the water and one had a hole broken into it on the top side. Even a long time after pieces of wood from the coffins were still along the banks. It was dangerous back there because of the crazy people who hung around. The lagoon was the WORST. The cops did night patrols but usually just at the gate. Locals cleaned it up and removed tons of junk 10 years ago.

A friend of mine & I got out of the car & started walking to what seemed to be a wild rose bush field. We decided to turn back, and here was a park ranger basically telling us to get the hell out of there. It was broad daylight... so we left. It's a public place,no?

One of my dad's old friends went there for a funeral back in the 70s as well. He later went there some more during the day and he said he saw orbs, but the scariest thing was that he went there soon after a rainstorm and he wasn't looking where he put his feet. He fell on top of a dug up grave. Worse, because it was so slippery and steep and he wasn't wearing good shoes, it took him a long time to get out of the hole. He was PTSD now.

Great video, your history is spot on with the research I've done on this place. I grew up by the grove, and have some really odd stories, some of which, I'm still trying to process in my head from years ago. I believe the woods and the road leading up to the cemetery are more haunted than the cemetery itself. My most recent experiences there, less than 2 years ago, happened in the afternoon and happened just on the side of the road leading to the cemetery.

We live very close to the cemetery..and used to walk our dog thru the surrounding woods all the time. Just once my husband walked the trail, and ended up at the cemetery. (He is not one that believes in the paranormal.) He said as he got closer to the cemetery our dog who was very calm normally, started acting strange. Stopping frequently, head twisting like he was trying to understand something, then ran back to my husband, as to say, protect me daddy. *He was the worst dog ever as far as watch dogs go.* That's when my husband felt "something" .... at first he thought it his imagination, but as this odd feeling continued to intensify he could only describe it as a full blown panic attack. Something he does not ever have. He said with that he got the heck out of there and has never gone back. He has no explanation for what occurred but he just says he has NEVER felt what he felt that afternoon before or after that day. And has absolutely no desire to go back

Thanks for doing this video, the long walk through the surrounding woods, paths, and additional tid-bits about the place. (Also all the other Chicago area places!) I didn't get much past the cemetery entrance on the main path, when we went about 15 years ago. I sure felt drawn further down that path to look for foundations, etc. That access path gives it a unique feeling over other ways to get into cemeteries. The pond was one green slime pit. It was daytime and nothing paranormal happened. We had a digital recorder and multiple cameras taking the same shots. There were a lot of the ubiquitous orange day lilies covering one section of the cemetery, near the area where the white lady photo was taken. We each took our turn sitting on the same headstone base that she was on and having our photos taken. I knew the professional photographer who was able to examine the original photo/negative. It was legit. No messing around with it. It struck me as profoundly sad, rather than scary, to see headstones tossed all over the place, broken, or missing. Bachelor's Grove is the worst of the worst. I don't know how they would be able to reconstruct the cemetery to what and where things should be. Not sure if people were maintaining it at that time. I noted a large "crater" in front of a headstone, so people were still digging around graves.

Thank you for sharing your experience going there. I've never had anything paranormal happen there in the daytime either, only at night. I agree, it's terribly sad seeing the cemetery like that. I know this place.. My Gramps said it was creepy in 1930s! In the 80s when I was in H.S. people would call this make-out point. Because it was secluded, and a good place to hang out, and get High. Someone Dared me that I wouldn't walk through the Cemetary on Halloween night! It was the creepiest and weirdest place I've ever been to in my life. I didn't stay long enough to see any thing! I took off running, and hopped back in my BF car! There was a rumor that people were going there for Satanic worship. That's when the police started patroling more often and locked it up at night. Thanks for a great video. You brought back a lot of memories, of my long lost youth. 😁

I've been there about 3 or 4 times. One time, in the late Eighties, we went there quite late on a Summer night. There was a not quite full moon. It was kind of hot, and, no wind. In one spot inside the cemetery, there was a cold spot. I was the first one to notice it. I told my two friends to stand there, and, they both said, that, in that one spot, it was as it were twenty degrees cooler. We saw white and blue orbs. The blue ones were over the pond. The white ones were in the woods on the far side of the cemetery. We saw a two story house, kind of deep in the woods. It was white or some kind of lighter color. It's hard to say exactly which color, because it was much darker in the woods.

It's a had a lot of work done on it since I was there a few times in the 90s. I had a few incidents there... Saw a....... half-body apparition? Just the upper half of someone walking outside the fence. It was pretty dark but could make it out clearly. Went to check and there were no footprints in the sand outside the fence were it was. Another, we placed a recorder on a headstone and went down to the swampy area. When we came back we retrieved the recorder and despite being the only people in the cemetery, you could clearly hear someone walk up to the recorder, pick it up, and set it back down on the headstone. No footsteps leaving. And lastly... we saw an "orb" of light across the cemetery down by the swamp area. It hovered for a half second or so and then did a loop in the air a couple feet in diameter and disappeared. Given the smell down there though... I have to believe that it really was swamp gas. But the other two incidents? No explanation.

On a beautiful and sunny late spring early afternoon in 1998, I was having lunch with a friend of mine who I grew up with on the Southside of Chicago. The restaurant was a mile or so away from Bachelor's Grove Cemetery. I mentioned the cemetery to my friend and to my surprise, he had never been there. To me, going there was a teenage rite of passage of sorts. He wanted to see it and suggest we check it out after lunch, which we did. We parked in the woods just northeast of the cemetery entrance and walked over. We were the only ones in the parking lot and I felt uncomfortable leaving the car there. There was no one out that day. I gave him a tour of the cemetery and what I remembered about it from years ago. To be honest, he wasn't impressed nor disturbed by the cemetery. I felt bad for not living up to an expectation he had of it. We were inside the cemetary and standing near the fence facing the pond. He excused himself to take a pee and walked over to the east side. As I look back at the pond I saw a man in a buffalo plaid flannel shirt moving quickly along the edge of the pond toward me. If you pause the video at 06:46 and look directly through the middle of the missing fence and at the tree on the other side of the pond, that is where I saw the figure. At first I thought maybe it was the police about to arrest us. I became very anxious and turned my head sideways, looked at my friend and said "we need to leave!". When I turned my head back looking at the pond, the man was gone. I have no idea where he went and I was utterly confused as to what I saw and where he went. The trees were still relatively bare and yet, I saw or heard nothing. In fact, when I remembered it later, it was like watching a silent movie. As he made his way around the edge of the pond, small branches and growth moved, but there was no sound or branches snapping underfoot. Nothing. Again, if you look at the video at 6:46, how the figure moved so quickly along the edge of the pond with all those tree and branches, and then disappear absolutely baffles me. We quickly left -and nervously-and got back to my car park on the other side of the road in the forest preserve. We drove up an down the turnpike a few times to see where the man might have been or maybe seen a car he had driven. Again, nothing. We were the only two people out there that day. Because my friend did not see this figure, it didn't really phase him what I was experiencing and he thought it was a hunter. But he had no gun, no gear, nothing to suggest it. Plus there's no hunting out there and I don't recall seeing deer out there. We got back to the restaurant and my friend got into his car and drove away and I did the same. It wasn't until later when I got home and replayed what I had saw that I realize that I saw a supernatural figure. I've always believed ghosts were transparent, white-ish looking things. I should mention that the afternoon having lunch and visiting Bachelor's Grove Cemetery was the last time I saw my friend alive. He died at the age of 31. When I look back on my many visits to the cemetery and only having one experience, which is the one I just described, there is always something about that place that just feels flat and like a black abyss of non-existence. It's hard to explain exactly what it feels like that, this time being no different. But that night when I went to bed and closed my eyes, I could still see the cemetery. It was like when you spend a long summer laying out at the beach and when you go to bed and close your eyes, you can see an after image of the sun. Bachelor's Grove Cemetery made me realize that a kind of haunted place is not necessarily "spooky" or sends a chill down your spin to qualify as haunted. To me, Bachelor's Grove is defined not by the felt presence of ghosts or spooky sightings but rather a presence that permeates the cemetery and its immediate surroundings like a bottomless black void that you can feel, and when you do it makes you feel sick and nauseated. It's not a place I'd recommend to anyone whose interested in visiting. I think it's better to not unsettle your mind with dark places like Bachelor's Grow and it's better to make better use of your precious short time in this world focusing on what is good, beautiful, happy, and positive. Thank you for reading my story.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It could have been someone walking on the trail that runs along the pond, but if they were suddenly gone, that's another story, unless they were hiding behind a tree. But the parking lot was empty, unless they parked in the lot in the back of the forest or rode a bike there. Others, too, have experienced a feeling of dread like you explained. I never had that feeling but I do believe the woods around the cemetery are haunted. Thanks again for sharing your creepy story.

When my mom and I crossed the turnpike to get to the forest preserve, the temp immediately dropped and the wind went silent. As we walked down the road to get to the cemetery itself (the scariest part imo), the birds were super loud, but as soon as we walked into the actual cemetery, it stopped. We ended up recreating the Madonna of Bachelor's Grove picture which was pretty cool, but the eeriest part of the cemetery itself was the pond nearby that Al Capone and the Chicago crime circuit allegedly dumped bodies into. It smells rancid even in January (when we went it was frozen over) and I can imagine how terrifying the headlights reflecting off the water could be at night. I ended up leaving a Hot Wheels car for the infant daughter, I sat in front of that and the Fulton headstone for a few minutes because I felt some sort of presence there but we had to leave quickly because our car was parked across the street and the lot was technically closed for the evening. My mom used to frequent Bachelor's grove in the 90s and claims to have seen orbs and a faint apparition of the house, but she chalks it up to fog (she's more of a skeptic than I am).

Thanks for sharing your experience. The pond looks gross when it's covered with algae. I can only imagine what's on the bottom. It's an interesting place to visit.

I went there a few times over 25 years ago. My friends told me lots of stories. That picture was in the newspaper and we saved it. There’s a pond right there by the graves like a cove and the road goes right over it and it is said that right there where the pond is by the graves back in the day the mob dumped hundreds of bodies of people they killed there. We had to climb through a tear in the fence back then and it was small. A lot of tales about that place. I also briefly lived by resurrection cemetery where famous Mary is said to roam.

The mob dumping ground legend is an old one. I talked about it in the video. I'm going to do a video on Resurrection Mary. I did one on St. James Sag not from there.

I know it's been told to death, but are you going to do a video on Resurrection Mary? I never did get out to Resurrection Cemetery to see the marks on the old gates before they replaced them, but I've seen pictures. There's all these great haunted locations out here (southwest Chicago suburbs) but I never seem to be able to find the time to get out to them... Other people plan to take vacations or go on a cruise when they retire. When I finally retire I'm going ghost hunting! 😂

I might eventually do a video on Resurrection Mary. It's an interesting story. I think I have a book with a picture of the marks on the gates.

Would you be open to emailing me some stories that I can showcase in a future video? I can provide the email for my channel. It would be cool to make a whole video telling scary stories about Bachelors Grove.

I was there 30 years ago, this place is no joke! We recorded and you can hear us walk away. The tape was scary AF. Evil lives there, we took pictures of everything and I swear we caught the devil on film. I'll never go back.. I'm scared of that place to this day. The death and disrespect of the grove is insane. Since my experience I've seen horrible things and hear voices, I sometimes feel like I've been haunted since that day. It was windy and went we went into the grove it was dead still... No wind, no nothing. Should have left then. But didn't hed the warning signs. 30 years later I wish I would have never gone. Was in mental hospital 4 times since last year. The voices are getting louder, tried meds, doesn't make them go away. I'm cursed.

I was driving on the Midlothian Turnpike around 3:00 AM when I saw a blue and green orb shoot up from the woods and then they just disappeared. Next a foggy mist appeared across the road, after that I saw an apparition standing on the side of the road, and the thing that freaked me out the most was when this car came out of nowhere and tailgated me for about a mile on the Turnpike. After all that, I started feeling this intense dread, sadness, loneliness, and despair, so that’s when I decided it was time to get the heck away from there and go home. When I returned home, and went to bed, I started having horrible nightmares about things that happened in that area. I must say this, I am never going anywhere near Bachelor Grove Cemetery ever again.

I've seen white orbs in a cave on the island of Saipan. At first there were six, but after I bowed to them and spoke in Japanese three of them disappeared deep inside the cave while the remaining three accompanied me until I left the cave at which time I bowed and said goodbye in Japanese.
