One of my first jobs back in the 80s was working at a Wendy's. I remember making the famous Wendy's chili. You start by taking any hamburger patties that end up sitting on the grill too long and setting them in a pan of water that is left steaming on the grill. The next morning we take that pan of over-cooked patties and using two spatulas, chopped them into a fine mince. This was then added to a large pot with a large can of beans, water, tomato sauce and a packet of seasoning and heated to boiling. Wendy's chili. Still pretty tasty.

In this ep, I'm on team Michael. The sales department didn't care about his new company whether it failed or not but then the new company started thriving and stole half their clients. I don't blame the Michael scott paper company for doing that because business is still a competition. Now, Phyllis says Michael left the family but it's not like he didn't give them the option of joining him. Again it's not like Michael is giving away all their clients, and their jealous because Pam left and now she is a salesperson.

The day they filmed the chili scene, that was the only scene shot since they had to clean up afterwards. The shot was done in the morning. What I especially like about this episode is how Jim is put aside so that Michael, Pam, and the rest of the sales team can shine. If Jim was there, he would be the voice of reason and the conflict would end pretty quickly. And it's funny to think how obvious it is that he is in the same office while the whole drama with the dress code and warehouse fort thing was ongoing; playing chess AND Scrabble with Creed.
@Skrull_King9 ай бұрын
Minus the family card that Phyllis plays on Michael i can understand both sides. He felt hurt and betrayed that only pam went with him out of the whole office, but he has to understand that it wasnt just them being disloyal to him. They could be worried that it wouldnt work, they all had secure jobs, oscar explained that his company may not make money for a couple years, jim stated that he stayed cause it was a job with pay, he knew there was money. Michaels company did fail, they had to recall customers and ask for more money because they were going bankrupt which proves why it was safer to stay at dunder mifflin. There was pay, benefits, job security, michaels company didnt have any of that, it was unreasonable to ask them to leave on a whim but they could have spoken up for michael and defended him when he was going through what he did. Dwight helped Michaels company a lot by giving him clients, why wasnt that appreciated more when he came back, saying thank you for helping us stay alive. He only stopped helping when he was being recognized for his work ethics, had an actual chance to move up like hes always wanted, something Michael never really gave him. And to be fair with all the Phyllis hate, she is the only one that told Wallace that all of this was most likely his fault when she said if he only let him have his party, which he did deserve since he did so much for them.

Honestly? Team Michael. Also, I don't really like Phyllis. I always felt she was being blatantly emotionally manipulative this episode. I understand that clients affects bonuses, commission, etc, but there was no non-complete cause in effect when Michael left. He and Pam didn't break any laws or rules, they just took clients aggressively and the DM salesmen simply weren't able to compete. The situation sucks, but they *were* all invited to join Michael like Pam did and they refused, so it is what it is. Life's about missed opportunities as much as it is about taken ones. Now that Mike's bringing his team of loyalists back with their little reward for taking such a huge (crazy) risk, Phyllis and group threaten to quit? Then when Michael calls their bluff, she pulls out the water works and plays the 'family' card on him? That's Michael's obvious weakness. It grates me because all throughout the show, Phyllis plays the victim multiple times, dogs on Pam in all these small ways yet consistently takes her ideas or belittles her accomplishments in these missable moments that no one calls her out on. The "trout" comment alone for example would have had most people biting back.

They denied bc they didn't believe it would work and that's totally fair but the clients PREFERRED the new company services. The clients were just not their anymore, they were Michael's, Pam's and Ryan's which indicates that they did do a good job, so it's fair for them to keep the clients they adquired The whole episode was the sales team blaming Michael by a choice they themselves made and their clients made. He should not had given all their clients back. I think to maintain a good morale he could have given back some of their clients, but not all

Here’s my hot take. The chili scene is fun and it’s not a bad scene by any means but people saying it’s one of the best scenes in the show is, in my opinion, insane. It’s not even in the top 200 scenes in the show. I could honestly think of 200 better scenes and probably even more. It’s silly humor which again I like them doing that every once in a while. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the scene and I like that it’s included but it is the most overrated scene in the show, again in my opinion.

It’s always bothered me that the writers intent seems to be to imply that Michael (and Pam and Ryan) really were 100% in the wrong. If this were real life, sure, it would be a bit unfair for Pam and Ryan to keep all of the former-and-current Dunder Mifflin clients, but it would be equally unfair for them to have to give them all back - and the way the other salesmen went about it was very much not okay, yet the writing implies that they were justified.
