@@Vortex001_MLGunfortunately, Ford (the parent company) is also going down the Apple route, where repair is artificially limited. There’s no reason a broken taillight should make an F-150 unable to start up + drive, and Ford charges $1700 USD to replace said taillight. And a few years ago, 2019 or so, they joined up with Toyota, Honda, GMC, etc. to spend millions of dollars to make an ad campaign that basically said “allowing third-party repairs on our cars means you will be s3xu411y assaulted in a dark parking garage at night”. Not to mention how difficult it is to repair Ford’s EV and modern-day lineup. Hope the attitudes at Ford management regarding Right-To-Repair will be more positive in the future

This is actually really common. As a repair technician in third-party repair I see Apple Watch screens coming off all the time. After about 2 to 4 year depending on usage the battery starts to expand and because everything is so tightly packed inside the watch the battery expanding, even just a millimeter is enough to pop the screen. Pair that with weakening, he said over the years and you get this. I see this at least once every few weeks.

The repairability put me off of my apple watch (Series 3). I have the tools to repair watches myself, and timepieces with a mechanical, or even a simple quartz movement are so repairable. I'd wager almost anyone could replace a Quartz movement's battery with some simple tools, but even for a tenner at Timpsons, it's such a good value. Yes, I don't get the software, but I traded that for a selection of unique, unusual and interesting timepieces that I can swap on the daily and keep going myself, or by hiring someone who can repair the watch for me (I'm never touching the Seiko 5 my grandfather left me! 6:40 I get you're point, but I bet for Apple its simply more cost effective to give you a 'new one' which will probs just be a refurb, then refurb your old one for the next person needing a replacement/repair. That way the customer isn't wait on a repair and it cycles over. I can see your point, and I'm only speculating as to what Apple are doing, but they are still 'technically' repairing them, just indirectly. Massively inflates cost to the user though, and right to repair is important.

That was pleasant. Took it to my local STUPID bar, and Apple replaced it a week later as I was still under the applecare warranty. 6 months later, (3 months after my applecare expired) the battery in the replacement watch expanded again, this time popping off the face onto a concrete sidewalk. Landed just right so that the face glass shattered. Took it back to the STUPID bar, and they refused to even look at it. Decided then and there that I'd never purchase a watch from rottonApple again. I'm still using a series 4 just fine. Though, I can relate so hard to this video ... because I may need battery service soon. I'm still using an iPhone XS and decided to replace the battery about a month ago. The phone is still pristine condition. I assumed just going to the Apple store was the right move. I showed up and checked in on my iPhone and everything seemed to go smoothly and they'd have it in about an hour or so. I come back later and I'm then told they can't service my phone because of damage. I've had this since Day 1 without any damage or issues ... but I'm now told the touch screen doesn't work and they can't replace the battery. I assume it was damaged during disassembly, which they denied. I was like "Then how did I even check the phone in? I did it right in front of you." They then said it must only work intermittently and essentially accused me of trying to sneak that under the radar. At that point, I was just trying not to explode and ended up talking to the manager. They finally relented and replaced the battery and the screen, but still acted condescending throughout the whole ordeal. I kept my cool the whole time , but I had to quip "I thought I was doing the right thing by coming to Apple instead of a 3rd party. I guess I learned a lesson today." I've been using Apple products since the 80's and never had an experience like this. Of course, they tried to get me to upgrade to the iPhone 15.

both mine and my mother's series 6 saw their screen came off within about 2 months of this videos release (before and after). It really feels like Apple set a timer on those adhesives! I opted to do a self repair - granted, with an somewhat unnecessary step of attempting and failing to remove the screen, which seems to have botched the light sensor connections for now - with a battery removal, but my mom thinks the battery life is fine and opted to just glue it back together. The total cost of everything comes down to

I have a series 7, and I have to echo your experience regarding battery performance and software updates. My battery health was down to 87% about few months before the applecare was due to run out, so I went out of my way to try and drop that % below 80 to have the replacement fee covered by the applecare. I was unable to do so running the flashlight (dropped quickly down to 83% and hasn’t changed in months). But now, the battery performance seems to fluctuate quite a bit. Some days it gets me through all day and night like it was brand new. Other days i feel like i can see the charge decreasing in front of my eyes. Either way, when it is time to upgrade, I will probably go for the current Ultra model. My series 7 was the stainless steel, which, over 2 years ago, costs the same as the Ultra 2 does now. Except the Ultra 2 is significantly more watch for the same money. Not too worried about the size increase either.

I had a series 2 for about 5 years of regular abuse. Eventually, I got a notification the haptics felt off, and I looked at my wrist to see that the adhesive didn't fail, the screen didn't crack, the bezel had perfectly cut out the LCD.

Just a little heads up, the double tap gesture is not exclusive to the new Apple Watches, I have been using it regularly on my Apple Watch SE 2023 for a good while now. It can be found in Accessibility settings and works nearly perfectly, there have been some times it wouldn't register the taps when my milanese loop had come a little bit loose, but I don't think that is a problem with other bands as they don't tend to get loose.

Currently got a Series 3 which I acquired Christmas 2019 (when the current model was the Series 5), the battery health is still at 94%, but given the software is maxed-out at watchOS 8.8.1 - presently two major versions out of date - & the fitness tracking seems to be getting flakier as time goes on, I am planning on replacing it come September; either with a Series 10 (Series X?) or a Series 9 once the price drops after the next model comes out if it doesn’t seem like a worthwhile enough upgrade to pay the full £429 (assuming the top end price doesn’t go up this year).

I have two apple watches. I have my series 4 which I bought on release day in 2018 and used it basically until early 2023 when I bought a used series 7 from a friend. I still have my 4 but it was great! The battery life of course degraded and with the new updates, it would need a little charge during the day. It's still perfectly fine though! My used series 7 battery is still pretty good and it lasts a whole night and day. I usually sleep around 6+ hours with it on and when I charge it usually before midnight, it has about 30-35 percent left. One thing I will note is on my series 7, my battery life depends on the watch face and complications I use. I currently use the California watch face with a rectangle dial with the date and weather temp complications, but if I use the Metropolitan face with the same date and weather temp complications, the Metropolitan face uses about 7-10 more battery percentage. Pretty interesting

I've had so much bad luck with Apple Watches. The failure mode is always the same, the watch goes into thermal runaway and then shuts itself off, never to come back on again. Last one died a few weeks ago. Sent it in for warranty and came back with a note saying there was nothing wrong with it, even though it won't power on. After talking to 3rd tier tech support on the phone, I was told not to let the watch see temperatures of > 95F. That's a tall order since I use the watch for running (it's an SE with the cellular option) and live in a hot and humid environment. Also, normal body temperature is > 95F. My personal theory is that sweat is getting past the glue and shorting out the battery, but I could be wrong.

Am I the only one that still uses the gen 1 Apple Watch? Still works like a charm, mainly only use the watch for notification alerts, as I usually have my phone silenced and having a slight vibration in the wrist to let me know is very comfortable, and as a plain old watch. Still works like a charm for that use case + it can do a bunch more if need be. Only downside I would say is battery life but It lasts me a whole day, so when with accustomed to a regular charging routine during each night there are no issues.

I got a Series 7 from the summer of 2022. Everything is working fine, the only problem I have with it is the easily scratchable screen on cheaper models. A screen protector has helped me but I got the first big scratch on it before applying a soft screen protector film.

I still use an Apple Watch 4, it’s working perfectly, obviously I can’t do much more than a marathon with it on but for day to day it’s fine. I had my iPhone XS Max for 5 years before upgrading. I used the same MacBook Pro for around 4 years and I bought it when it was 3 years old. I find, on the whole, that if you look after your Apple products they last a long time. I even give my old devices to my kids and they get years out of them after.

I still have a series 4, battery is still around 80%. No reason to upgrade. However, I cracked the screen on it by accident. Looked into a replacement on iFixIt and via Apple directly and both were around £200, which just doesn't seem cost effective. I can still use it and it works fine, its just obviously not water resistant anymore. I'm having the same debate whether to upgrade it or not. At this point I'll probably just wait and see what they do with the series 10 given all the rumours around it being a large change, like the iPhone X was.

Not Apple specific but still smart watch relevant. I had a customer that came in with an, old, old Garmin Fenix. I asked him how long he'd had it. 7 YEARS. My Instinct is going on 3 years and I plan on keeping it until...I don't know, the thing is practically indestructible and it still holds a two-week+ charge. These things can last if the company wants them to last. Granted, these are edge-cases in that they are ultra-rugged and mine has lower battery requirements, but still.

I think it's most likely the battery swelling that caused the adhesive to fail. I had a similar thing happen on my Sony Xperia a number of years ago (though I've had better luck with all my other devices). Though, I really wish things were screwed down instead of glued together (of course I wonder if gluing it together is safer in cases where the battery expands). In any case, I'd much prefer something that has no glue at all and is just screwed together (in such a way that battery swaps can be done by the user). In general, I vastly prefer hardware and software that's actually designed to last. I prefer the idea of being able to use the same device forever if I so choose.

I have seen people bringing their apple watches to me for repair with the screens coming off even though the battery was not bad or swollen. The screen on these will naturally come off over time due to weather changes, humid environment or using the watch in shower or steam room or hot tub. Such environments can soften the adhevise and weaken the strength of it causing it to not stick anymore. Also watches are very small and has less surface area. The iPhones on the other hand also has clips which hold the display in place.

Not sure if this applies in Canada but since you have a series 6, assuming you bought two years of AppleCare plus, your watch at this point is out of warranty, and they’d just swap out the device with a new model regardless of whether it was a damage or adhesive that resulted in the watch display coming off like that

My series 6 also had a similar problem in September, while swimming it died, presumably because of a water infiltration via the screen. From a quick search it looks like the s6 is the most affected by screen sealing issues. Now I’m rocking a s9 and it has been working great.

Until recently I had a S6 44mm too, but its battery had dropped to like 83%. I also wasn't a fan that I had to charge it every night, because it couldn't survive more than 30h, and I wear it in bed for the silent alarms and sleep tracking. Recently I traded it in and got an Ultra 2, which I basically charge twice a week, and I'm quite happy with it. My only gripe is that the milanese loop band, which is by far my favourite due to the precise adjustment, looks hilariously disproportionate on the Ultra watch. I've been making due with the velcro Ultra 2 strap (can't remember its proper name), but I don't find it as convenient and nice looking as the milanese.

5:30 thats why i left apple after my iphone 12 pro max battery had swollen up seperating the back glass. Apple was negligent and left me having to get the repair done elsewhere. Same day i got it repaired i listed it for sale for $800 and sold it hours later for that. I had already gotten a z fold 3 from samsung and i love it. Sold almost all my apple products. Kept my mac mini and old ipad pro, both of which see very little use. Highly doubt ill ever go back.

I'm still daily driving a Series 2. I generally get through till bedtime without a recharge. The screen is cracked, but I'll consider taking it to a private repair shop to see how much that would cost to fix. I also have a Series 4 in the drawer that suddenly required 4-5 charges per day. We'll see about that one, too.

This exact thing happened to my Fitbit Versa Lite a few months ago. Eventually the screen must've shorted or something (maybe from water getting in while washing my hands), causing the screen to go black, and so I superglued the screen on so it wouldn't break any more than that. So for the last few months I essentiall have a bracelet instead of a watch that tracks my health info without any interactable screen for me to get distracted by notifications or anything. It's funny because I intentionally went with the "dumber" watch by getting what I did instead of an Apple Watch because I knew I'd get distracted by more features, so it's been a cool experience of seeing what it's like to have even less to interact with.

I remember when the first original Apple Watch came out when I was in 7th grade and I got it for Christmas that thing has been through the trenches and back it’s been dunked in a barrel of motor oil and a barrel of coolant and it still worked I used it all the way up until my senior year of high school until the screen popped out but I just glued it back on and it still turns on and functions to this day. Obviously it doesn’t hold a charge as well and the Force touch doesn’t work anymore but it still tells time and it still gives me notifications

I am happy with my series 6, but I have noticed that the previous/next buttons seem to be less responsive after the last few updates. Maybe it's just me, or the screen protector that I've had on for a year, but I hope it isn't about to suffer a similar fate. I also notice that the sound levels between individual mp3s is worse than usual, like some songs are twice as loud as others. This wasn't the case earlier on, I know because I have been using the same gym playlist for years. I don't really want to upgrade, I'd rather keep this one going. The only compelling upgrade to me is cellular connectivity so I can leave my phone at home more often. Eh.
