I remember watching the Jimmy Page and Robert Plant No Quarter DVD in the living room in my teens. The Rain Song was playing, and my father who had never shown any interest in my music or anything I did, was mesmerized by Jimmy's guitar. He sat and listened, despite not being able to understand the words, and asked me who the guitar player was. I was overjoyed to be able tell him. It is a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life; the day my father and I connected through a timeless song. This masterpiece will forever remind me of that moment and bring tears to my eyes, which I will always, always welcome.

Thank you for sharing that. My dad RECORDED that "UnLedded" unplugged performance on VHS when I was teen (in 1994) and very much a fan of LZ , and surprised me the next morning with the recording. I couldn't believe it, I was so happy. He is gone now, so this concert reminds me of him every time.

Let's never forget that in 1975 Rolling Stone conducted a readers' poll - readers voted in who was 1975's Best Drummer; Karen Carpenter won. Beating out John Bonham, Roger Taylor, Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Bev Bevan, Bill Ward, Ansley Dunbar, Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Bill Bruford, etc... Jackie Stewart was "The Best" as it could be proven with wins and fractions of seconds, etc... O.J. Simpson was "The Best" again, because of precise statistical accounting. In my single and humble opinion - James Patrick Page was/is The Best Rock composer, producer, guitarist, etc ... Yet I'm certain that even he would agree that it's a mute, null and void spectrum. Although we know better.

@@kevinkiso4579 Karen is so very, very underrated. It's hard to compare her to JB because their styles are apples and oranges. But listen to her lay down that funky groove in her early television appearance with "Dancing in the Street". One wonders if Bonham took inspiration from this for Trampled Underfoot. He may have been keeping one eye on Karen. After all, she could play and sing at the same time whereas he could only play. As an aside, when you hear this version of The Rain Song, sans vocals, it's clear Karen could have done a fantastic version with Plant's melody. (She really rocked it on "Hurting Each Other".) Too bad they never thought to have her as a guest vocalist, even as a surprise appearance at a show.

The great thing about Jimmy as a producer, is that he produced the albums with an objective ear. The balance of the sound was perfect. When some guitarist have produced their own albums, the guitar is the prominent sound on the albums, is right at the front.

@@firstlastqaz @firstlastqaz lol, did you mistake this for a Carpenter's fangirl channel or something? Her drumming was textbook, granted all very precise and well rehearsed, but nothing about it jumped out as particularly unique, pioneering or distinctive. "whereas he could only play"....well he was a drummer, not the lead singer, cos Zeppelin already had one of those :) I thank the stars that Karen wasn't a 'guest vocalist' for LZ, they covered a lot of genres, but saccharine pop wasn't one of them.

@@giftoftime9968 George once told John Bonham that the problem with Zep was that they didn't write ballads. Jimmy then wrote this (using the first 2 chords of George's 'Something'). I have been playing this for years and the chords structures are beautifully created. For example : the outro all sounds amazing in both arpeggio (how it should be played) or in chords.....except for the first one! It sounds awful as a chord but beautiful as an arpeggio (as he plays). Jimmy's alternate tuning chord work is simply amazing. 😊🎸

Me, at 14yrs and a girl I was hanging out with, I had immense feelings for her that I didn't quite understand in my mind. Still discovering my life and LED-, I came across this song for the first time. It was when the words said, "But I know, that I love you so" that an incredible feeling washed over me, and it suddenly was clear! I was in love!!, I was blown away!! and now fully aware of simply how to tell the girl what I felt of her... And the sheer force of this band that came into my soul that very day in 1981. My life hasn't been the same since!!! It's probably why the album cover has always been my profile picture. I never figured that until now. Maybe that's why the framed album hangs on my wall as an adult.... Peace and Cheers

@Jake South Also - Jake, I'm not sure WHY you wrote your comment... ? I mean, who do you think makes up the band called Led Zepplin??? Is one of them named Jimmy Page, perhaps? Soooo... Yeah. I guess someone needs to explain it to YOU. Allow me: TECHNICALLY - The song in this video IS written by THE VERY SAME PERSON who wrote the original version! IMAGINE THAT JAKE!! And this same person, IS actually a member of the band called Led Zeppelin! Wow! That must be a mind blower for you, huh Jake!! Here's something you should write down Jake- The musical genius who wrote this song, his name is Jimmy Page. (That's Mr. Page to you Jake.) Or did you somehow think there is just ONE PERSON named Led Zepplin who did all the song writing??! If so, here's another tidbit of info for you Jake- Hold on to your socks Jake, because THIS is going to blow them RIGHT OFF!!! The answer is: NO, that's not the case! There is no ONE PERSON with the name of Led Zepplin!! Ha! HOW ABOUT THAT!!! There are actually 4 members of the band. Each of who contributed to each song. And GUESS WHO wrote the guitar parts in all the songs!! Can you guess Jake?? Can you??? You might ALSO notice the name of this very YT channel! And then when you put all those pieces together, (if you're able) then maybe, JUST MAYBE, if it's a good day, if you have remembered to keep your fingers OUT of the light socket today, if the sun is shining just right, and if the planets have aligned to shine some sense into you, it MIGHT all click for you... His name being Jimmy Page. (Again, that's Mr. Page to you.) AND What this means is that TECHNICALLY Mr. Page can do ANYTHING he pleases with this song. AND If you've bothered to listen to the music in this video, you'll notice that the original comment describing this song as, "A Sublime Masterpiece" is right on the money!! This IS Jimmy's song. This version IS a Masterpiece. The original version is also a Masterpiece. Both written and performed BY THE MASTER himself, as nobody else can, Mr. Jimmy Page. In short, what I'm saying to you Jake, is that TECHNICALLY, your comment is ridiculous. And- Hopefully, NOW that it's been explained to you properly, now that you know how things work, now you'll be able to understand that this IS Jimmy's song. To do with what he wishes. It's a gift for all of us. I suggest you cherish it in the way in which it deserves to be cherished.

The ability to transport the listener to another world was perhaps Led Zeppelin's greatest power. You can see the music in colors and images. That ability was predicated on the fact that videos didn't exist and live performance films (yes, actual film) were rare, so the interpretation of the lyrics and airs behind them were COMPLETELY individual. Just like reading a novel, rather than seeing the movie; the characters look, sound and move the way YOU and you alone envision. The concert film "The Song Remains the Same" tainted the featured songs to a degree by creating a fixed association to them.

@@johnalex6309 I'd have to disagree to a degree...when I first started listening to LZ, the phrasing, the Middle Eastern influences, the melodies, the lyrics, were all unlike anything that other artists had released at the time. I discovered Led Zeppelin back in December 2023. I was watching KZbin and Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven from Madison Square Garden 1973 was in my “for you page.” I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve listen to all of their songs, and I love every single one of them. I just love that I can go into a completely different world when I listen to them. Every time I listen to Stairway to Heaven, I feel so many different emotions, and I get this intense feeling of butterflies in my stomach. It’s almost a spiritual experience to me. I just love it so much! It’s been a really rough time in my life recently, and the only way I feel at peace is if I listen to Zeppelin. So I want to thank you: Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, John Bonham, and especially Jimmy Page for giving me this wonderful piece of art that is Led Zeppelin. I hope all of you live out the rest of your days in happiness and peace, and rip Bonzo! I really hope I get to meet you someday Jimmy, so I can thank you in person 💕 I really wish I was alive in the 70’s so I could see them in concert!

I had a similar experience to yours recently regarding Led Zeppelin. I don't know how old you are, I'm 71 and I was a kid when the overwhelming music of the 60s broke out. I followed it with passion but I had never followed LZ's hard rock, it wasn't up my alley. I knew they were the best, loved and followed, but their genre was too far from my tastes. Over time, I read some statistics, for example: which is the most loved band, which is the song of the century, which is the most appreciated guitar solo. The answer, in the majority of cases was: Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven, and Jimmy's solo in the same song. Intrigued, I checked on YT and it was like a bolt of lightning that hit me. I was hypnotized by this surprise, I wanted to delve deeper into their discography and their activity. How much I missed, but I'm catching up. They are all wonderful musicians but Jimmy's guitar particularly fascinates me, both when he plays hard and when he uses acoustics, as in this case. It is now a daily appointment with these old, immortal, enthralling notes.

But I thought Jimmy Page just ripped off old blues artists? Haha yeah right! Anyone who said that forgets incredible songs like these. They sound like nothing else. And even what they did with early blues standards and lyrics was actually pretty cool and innovative.

Reminds me of the ARMS concert for Ronnie Lane when Jimmy performed Stariway to Heaven without vocals on the double neck guitar at the end of the show at Madison Square garden. The crowd walked out in silence and stunned awe of what we had just seen! Never ever had that happen in many shows at the garden. The crowd was speechless. Such a talent!

Jimmy Page is just a genius. This composition is like nothing else, it is a completely original piece of beautiful music. You can hear that Jimmy had everything ready before he played it to the band. In some ways I can hear a connection to his film score for Death Wish II which by the way is great and underrated by the general public. I really wish Jimmy would release new music, it could easily be instrumental. Paul

Jimmy's instrumental guitar pieces have always been so _moving and awe-inspiring_ - it never ceases to amaze me. After looking at the title for a few moments, it suddenly came to me that in 2019 or 2020, I was recording these 'guitar instrumentals' *compulsively* after my father died (I was grieving in the only way I knew how to). I just played and recorded whatever soothed me, mostly mellow-dies and such. I vividly remember saving one of them on my main desktop screen and named it "Seasons"... That computer is buried inside a storage unit some 30 mins from where I am and now I've found the motivation to go and get it! Cole

Quite a treat to coincide with the HOTH 50th anniversary release - March 28 1973 - 2023 ✌ HOTH is full of genre- spanning, atmospheric, eclectic tunes. A great introduction to those just getting into the band. It holds a special place for me, as I was born the same year.

I cant even tell you how wonderful it is to hear this. The hour long recording of the JP’s demo experimenting & noodling about with the pieces of this song before narrowing down are among the most beautiful in my entire music collection and ive always dreamed of hearing him put longer/expanded or just instrumental version out to just soak in these melodies, harmonies & lush sounds. So many Zep tracks are like this, i wish there were an “in the studio” package for musicians to listen to, with no focus on the finished song, just 100% on all the making of.
