When I served my mission in 1981 he was the missionaries' favorite member of the Twelve. His book "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder" was revered, the missionaries quoted from it all the time. Such as: "if all the bibles in te world were destroyed, we would be the only people in the world still living by its precepts ... because we have continuous revelation..." He died shortly after my mission.

I always enjoyed hearing Elder Richards speak. I remember one time he was going over on his yime and the brethren behind him kept poking him with their cane trying to tell him to end. He apologized for going over but just had to finish his message. His zeal was wonderful.

EldermLegreamd Richards baptized and confirm my Moms great grand parents while on a mission in the Netherlands, my Great great grandfather was a very good man and fully believed in the Restored Church of Jesus Christ of latter. He sold every thing and him and his family lived in a neighbours barn for over a year so they could gather to Zion ,this was the late 1800s. After taking several years to get to then great. Salt lake city, he ,my 2 x great grandfather remembered that Elder Richards said,if they make it to Zion,look him up and he will help,them get settled. Well,he did. The my Mom great grandfather and grandmother ,said to their brothers and sisters that if they wanted ,they could come now,and once they got here, they couldn't him back. Well they came over, and once here, wanted to take a trip to Ca. And then they would get jobs and pay him back . They went to California, and never came back ! Otmtook my poor great grandfather years to cover their debts. I tracked down all their relatives, and told them their fine ancestors as they drank and laughed, only one of THEIR entire descendents came back to the Gospel! Many are called ,few are chosen!

One of the highlights of my youth was getting to spend an hour or so with him and his wife before I went on my mission to England in 1976. What an experience to feel his powerful spirit and devotion. In certain he is still busy today teaching and witnessing to others. What an inspiration that evening was and remains.

One Sunday night back in 1971 in Minnesota while on my LDS mission, I was assigned to physically help Elder Richards immediately after a special conference. I took one side and another Elder took the other. I really didn't know Elder Richards very much. As we were walking to his car, my name tag was at eye-level to him. He turned to look at it, which was Elder Pett. He asked: "Pett! Do you?" I asked "Do I what?". He said "Well, do you pet?". Embarrassed, I said "No I don't pet". I think he laughed. He was so funny.

@Heidi Brown, thanks for your question and feedback. This talk, entitled "The Second Coming of Christ," was given by Elder LeGrand Richards in April 1978. You can find it on the Church's website here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1978/04/the-second-coming-of-christ?lang=eng It's also available on the Gospel Library app. We hope that helps!

@bob154794 жыл бұрын
I think it’s beautiful how the law of tithing changes over time depending on needs! In Nauvoo it was 10% of what was leftover at the end of the years. Now it’s ten percent of everything we earn as we earn it! It has allowed the church to save up for the second coming. They have 80 billion in savings according to the church spokesman. It come in handy to build temples after Jesus arrives.

I’m sure they weren’t likely trying to save time by leaving it out. More likely an oversight like the kind we all find ourselves doing. May we be kind to one another since most have enough to fill a book on this special “gift” we have, lol.
@landyn30524 жыл бұрын
Jesus is not returning because he never left. However, if that belief gives you a sense of peace and security, keep believing. You will die, this world will continue, until we destroy it and no one will come in a cloud to save no one. We need to take personal responsibility to save us and this planet.
@Gasp70002 жыл бұрын
My, it is rare to come across one who has all knowledge in the universe, and is qualified to claim what isn’t so. Jus’ kiddin’. 😉Luckily, knowing what is so doesn’t require knowing it all, but rather knowing one principle at a time as we receive an authentication of it. It is easy to tell when someone does not know something because they treat others as if no one can have evidence of something unless the doubter receives that evidence first. They give themselves seniority, yet reject the only protocol for receiving revelation. I believe we all need to be responsible for caring for the earth, but Christ’s coming isn’t only for housekeeping. Abuse of power will be halted. Even that is for clearing the way for the greatest purpose of all, and that has to do with familial joy at it highest healing and potential. For another long period of time after that, the economy will be calmed, stabilized and balanced. As we admit to possibility, windows are opened. I have experienced one amazing window and no one can tell me what I don’t know from that experience. I would love to prove it or share it so others can skip the protocol that leads to it and just “know”, but that’s not how the physics pertaining to how the Holy Ghost operates when He infuses the sincere with an answer/answers. Similarly, certain evidence cannot be brought to others on a silver platter demanded by the expectant or inappropriately entitled any more that one can lose weight for another, or sleep, exercise or learn for another. Each soul has the ability to know how great the possibility in the universe is by tapping into the true directives for accessing personal revelation from the Holy Ghost. If one seeks an alternative, then one is cut off from the actual truth and they are left with a concocted, self-reasoned answer. Some feel satisfied with this stuck because it is their self-created familiar place, but lets not let familiarity with a possibly false picture ruin our present or future day and all that actually is possible, meaning, those things that end up to be true after all is said and done (…at this point, the most painful thing we recognize hindsight as being is that it’s late). This earth isn’t even going to be the same size when it is done anymore that our size changed from infancy. It’s continents and make-up are not finished moving or transforming, either. All of the cries of helping the earth, that is a genuine concern-we will all be stewards at our best during this transformation. There was a lot written about this anciently, but many scripts were sabotaged, hidden and intentionally lost. That information in the gospel will be returned to us, being restored, and that has already begun.
