How Bad Does it Need to Get Before the Second Coming - Agency is the Key

One of the most common phrases I hear when people discuss the last days, world events, signs of the times or the 2nd coming is "how much worse can it get". Meaning they are looking around the world. Seeing all the sin, wickedness and abominations and wondering how much more wicked can it really get before the Lord comes down and destroys the evil doers and saves the righteous. What is the point in which God metaphorically "calls the game" and sends the savior to destroy the wicked? I've done other videos on the last days, and the signs of the times and that isn't what we are going to cover today. Today we are going to focus on how bad it needs to get before the 2nd coming and what that really means. But to understand that, we need to look at the environment that must exist for God to take the action to destroy wickedness. This is the purpose of this video.

I had this exact thought about children being pretty much corralled into gender transitioning as I was watching some videos on it a while back. I thought to myself that some kids out there have no real choice because their parents or teachers are making that decision for them. Makes me sad. I am patient and I know things have to get worse than they are now but I sure do look forward to the time when the Savior steps in. I'm hoping that He is rolling up His sleeves right now.

I teach 6th grade and one of my girls came to school with a new book. As an English teacher, I’m always curious as what my students read. She came with a new book her mom bought her- Loveless. 😮 Look it up. I couldn’t believe a mother would give her child this book. She’s 11! But the kids don’t have a choice right now. It’s not the teachers as much as it is social media and parental influences.

The children and youth are really being targeted: Gender identity, pedophilia, mass shootings at schools and daycares. I don't know how much longer Heavenly Father will allow it. This scripture came to mind: "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea" (Matt 18:6).

The spirit tells me a simple truth, that we need less of the “I am a worthless worm of the dirt” theology and more of the “I am a marvelous human soul with endless possibilities” theology in our daily working religion. Character is not just knowing the depths to which some men may sink, it is knowing more importantly the heights to which some men may rise.

But They commanded us to "keep watch always for the coming of the Lord" and we can't do that very effectively, if at all, if we don't have at least some clear hint of when it might be for it is also said that "he will come as a thief in the night. And if the good man of the house had known when the thief would come, he would have kept watch all night and not suffer that his be broken into and his possessions broken up and his belongings taken from him by force." And so since God is a merciful and a just God, HE gives us every opportunity to"gird up our loins" and keep watch for the soon coming of the Lord and one of the ways HE does that is that HE commanded us to "study the times and the seasons for ourselves that [we] may have a knowledge, which is not perfect, of when the Lord comes so that we are not caught unaware and blame it on God not telling us. For verily HE did tell us, that we may be left without excuse when the Lord comes again." So we must learn as much as we can about the Second Coming and its timing so we are not caught off-guard when it happens "so that we may be counted among the righteous for we were watchful." Unfortunately I am no scriptorian (scripture expert) but if I remember correctly all of those passages can be found in the Doctrine and Covenants in the back of the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Are you talking about whenever Jews have dinner that they put an extra setting on the table in anticipation of Elijah coming to eat with them? Or is that at a certain festival? I can't recall exactly. And if that is what you mean, what does that have anything to do with the Second Coming? I fail to see the connection there. Our former stake pres gave a youth fireside a few weeks ago and he quoted an article that said the rising generation (gen alpha, born in the 20-teens) will be the first generation in the western world raised without religion. Their patents (millennials) got to choose whether or not to go to church, and most have chosen not to; their kids won't get that choice at all.

Your former stake president doesn't know history very well as ancient peoples were rarely religious, even throughout the dark ages, very few people were religious and attended any church service. Even today, the vast majority of the world's population is not very religious and do not attend any church services or practice any particular religion, which isn't any different from ages past. Forcing a child to believe a certain way is not what is intended. It's heartbreaking when I child decides to travel down a different path. Forcing them to believe your beliefs will not only cause severe rebellion and a disdain for the Church, but it will cause you to violate one of the fundamental reasons we are here, to choose for ourselves. Once the child reaches the point of rebelling against the truth - not wanting to go, the only thing we really can do is to encourage and invite.

We are so much closer than you think. Our kids are being persecuted online and in school if they don't conform to their peers and other leaders. Children can get gender reassignment surgeries. The world governments are vying for power. We lost crops and 100's of thousands of food animals this year. When food is scarce or too expensive to buy things are going to be truly crazy. But, here's the thing. God is coming to redeem a righteous generation. I have been lead to thousands of mother's and Father's who are working together to create small communities all over the world where we preach of Christ, seek truth and knowledge out of the best books, and we are trying to lift one another. I think it's false doctrine to think that the Second Coming is an event that requires a trigger, such as a certain level of wickedness. It's one thing to ask ,"How wicked will the world be at the time of the Second Coming?" versus "How bad does it need to be for there to be the Second Coming?" Ecclesiastes 3: 1- "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." Christ's Second Coming already has an appointed time. Nothing will change that.

"upon the wicked"? More likely upon the entire world. Even Nephi in Helaman, Ezekiel, Ezra, etc, were all subject to the famines they called down. It won't be a famine if the wicked can simply rob and plunder from those who can grow food. We will be tried too. Food storage, means to protect it (D&C 45:70), and gathering together (D&C 45:68) are the answer.

Great insights. Thank you so much. I love the gospel taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm so glad I'm a member and wouldn't trade it for anything. I enjoyed this video and it made a lot of sense to me. Things are moving forward and truly are getting closer where the newer generations will have a great challenge to have true agency. God save the little ones! Satan is such a monster to harm our precious young ones and try to take away their agency. I look forward to our Savior's coming. It will be a great and terrible day. Around the 10-minute mark, you were speaking of weight in relation to light and truth. Black holes are poorly named as they are collectors of light. An early name was dark stars, yet they are the brightest objects. I liken the most progressed to becoming stars, Abraham as an example, yet not all stars achieve black hole status. Some explode spectacularly, others, brown dwarfs, etc. I am not an astronomer. Yet our scriptures use the analogy of stars. Food for thought.

Thank you for your excellent video and explanation of why this happens. For a better understanding of the apparent indicators of when this happens I think we can look to the scriptures for the examples of other instances. In every case the final event is when the righteous are killed and/or compelled to flee the wicked society. This is consistent with your explanation of agency and ripeness being when it is a practical impossibility to live righteously in a society. When that choice is removed by force, probably by violence, and there are no righteous left among them then they are ripened in iniquity.

I guess I disagree to this comment to some degree. I believe there will be many, inside and outside the restored church, who are reaching for righteousness and sorrowing over the evil in the world. We will be clinging to one another and the principles and commandments that we have in common. We will struggle with our own failings and be patient with our brothers and sisters who are doing the same. There will be small gatherings of righteous souls throughout the world. We will band together to protect our children, our families and our agency. I also believe he is waiting for more than just our righteousness. He is still gathering. The divide is widening. The sheep that follow the Shepherd and the goats who follow Satan will be separated more and more. When that chasm becomes so wide that missionary work is ineffective and the word falls upon deaf ears and those who carry the message are no longer safe to do so….perhaps then, our Lord will come.

@@10christypa I agree wholeheartedly with your comment. This is exactly the way I see it too. In my first comment I only quoted Joseph Fielding Smith. I only shared those quotes to emphasize exactly what this video is about- how bad are things going to get. I believe that it will get so bad that religion itself is attacked. Our missionaries will be forced out of countries and called home by the church. I believe we will band together with faithful Protestants, Catholics, Buddhists, Muslims, agnostics and others who believe in cherishing faith in God. This is the gathering from out of all nations. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will lead this charge, and many will eventually join the church as God shows forth His power. Zion the New Jerusalem and Zion cities will be built first upon this Continent. But wickedness will abound on the earth with war, plagues, etc. in a much larger degree. Armageddon will happen, the majority of Jews are converted and then one final missionary force sweeps the earth. Once the gospel has then been preached, amid the mist of ongoing wars, struggles and plagues, to every creature, then the end comes. At least this is what my studies have pointed me to. I am really glad that I watched this video it was definitely enlightening and answered some questions that I had been thinking about recently. I have been finding myself drawn more towards the light and further away from the things going on in the world in the last few years. I can see the unbelievable idolatry and wickedness that is everywhere now. It is all I can do to make sure that my two teenage boys do not follow in the footsteps of all of the corrupt individuals that are in positions of authority and power. Earthly power anyway. I find that I trust in heavenly father now more than I ever have in my life. Because his words are being fulfilled on a daily weekly and yearly basis now. I have seen it and heard it and felt it with my own eyes, ears, and heart. I can see very plainly And my heart syncs when I watch what is going on in the world because I know that our days are numbered now. When I say our days are numbered I mean those of us who are believers and want to wallow in the steps of Christ. I separate myself from the world and I gave myself back to the Lord our God Little by little day by day.

This makes sense to me and is kind of stuff I knew already, but this video does a much better job of fleshing out and explaining it. Where I’m focused on in our modern world is education, and how I see THAT as a great indicator of when God finally calls it a day here in the last days. You touched on this point, but I see crazier and crazier ideas being pushed more and more on children who are right in the time of their life when they are first learning to understand what “right” and “wrong” are. What happens when they don’t get a fair chance to learn these distinctions? What does our society look like when these children grow up? It’s something all should seriously give thought to. Too many people I think in the US at least see school as akin to babysitting. It’s much more than that and I believe our best indicator about where the last days are heading.

One of the indicators used to determine the time to destroy the wicked during the flood was when the children of the world (notice I said world, not the church) did not have a fighting chance to even choose righteousness because all that was being taught was evil. I personally think for our society, we are way past due. Are you sure about that? As I understand Noah's Flood, before it came God commanded Noah that he and his sons were to build an Ark basically out in the middle of nowhere with no water in sight. Well, being obedient, they got to work on it. It took a long time to build. Years, if I understand it correctly. Anyway during the time of building, God commanded Noah that he was also to preach to the people about becoming righteous and repentant. And he faithfully did. So I would have to say that the people actually had a lot more than a fighting chance to learn the gospel. The problem was that they were continually wicked and increasing in iniquity daily that they totally disregarded and mocked Noah and his sons and their preaching so they had no place in their hearts for the word of God. They clearly did themselves in and because they were ripened in iniquity, the Lord God had to sweep them off the Earth. I think you might want to study the account again very carefully and prayerfully. God bless you and yours and take care.

My husband nearly lost his job that he worked hard to attain and that he’s had for 14 years over this issue. He stuck to his integrity and refused to participate, and the Lord blessed him to keep his job. We had engaged a lawyer and were prepared to protect his right to medical choice, especially since he works 100% from home. His employer reversed their policy after the Supreme Court ruling came out. I see that as the Lord answering the prayers of the faithful who diligently fasted and prayed to retain their right to bodily autonomy AND provide for their families. I know plenty of people this did not turn out to be the case for, who had to move out of state and start again. I’m sad for them, and want to believe the Lord will also provide a way for them to rebuild after such a loss. It’s tragic how some abuse the gift of agency, using their agency to harm others and rob them, simply out of fear, arrogance and ignorance. But, I’m still grateful we were able to continue with the job he has and also astonished how a seeming majority of Latter-day Saints took the side of the world in persecuting their fellow saints over an experimental medical intervention. I hope that with the “next” wave of whatever comes, that members of the Lord’s kingdom will show the best of who they are by their willingness to love and accept others who made decisions that are different than their own, and not become adversarial toward their own brothers and sisters, dividing into “ites” based on a vaccination status, not to mention excluding those who chose not or could not wear masks. Look how easy it was for Satan to turn hearts against others, shown by the many members who openly claimed “moral superiority” simply for wearing cloth over their mouths. None of the rationale for mask mandates was scientifically sound, but that didn’t matter. Those with a heart’s desire to be socially recognized as superior, even if it required oppressing others to receive that accolade and stamp of approval, showed their true colors when put to the test. Some members and leaders openly mocked those without masks, some threatened to throw them out of meetings, or call the police if they attended without a mask, while others silently stood by and did nothing. All were complicit in those circumstances. Ironically, I’m sure they’re convinced if that was a test, that they passed because while they excluded fellow members from meetings, which where I live lasted about a year, they “showed their love by wearing masks.” So profoundly ironic. I learned through all this: honor God. Obey God. Don’t prioritize worldly acceptance or you will share in the “full reward” of joining with those who trust in the arm of flesh. Don’t listen to those who mock you or accuse you of not following the prophet when you are simply following the sought-after promptings of the Holy Spirit for yourself. After all, the prophet himself has said that only those who have the constant influence of the Holy Ghost will survive the last days, not just blindly comply with authoritarian directives (which is a choice some made, and then tried to reassure themselves of the correctness of their choice by condemning others). Don’t worry about what anyone can do, remember God protects and provides. And I learned that indeed the wheat and the tares in the church are growing together and during these days, the Lord is separating us, and in ways that the prideful don’t perceive clearly. They will persecute others and believe themselves to be in the right, but their judgment is null, only God has earned the right to judge. (Romans 14)

Agency does not mean zero consequences. Agency means choice (as stated among other things in the video). Perhaps the vaccination ad showed up as a sign it is good, and another chance to make a choice. God made this whole world and everything in it, including the science. Above all we are commanded to love God, and then our neighbors. If the best way to show love for your neighbors is to wear a mask, or get vaccinated (which uses science created by our Creator), should we not strive to follow as sheep to their Shepherd? I urge you to pray, and study what relief responses helped such spreading diseases before now. The Lord's outstretched hand cannot save us unless we reach back. We need to use the resources at our disposal to care for our physical bodies just as much as we should for our spirits.

With Pres Nelson’s talk at April Gen Conf 2023, as he talked about avoiding contention I found my opinions feeling more challenged then I thought they would have been. I had increasingly felt the need to stand stronger and more bold in defending truth and righteousness, and also that conflict that arises when people take the truth to be hard was not the same as being contentious. However, Pres Nelson equated conflict with contention in his talk. On my mission I met people who felt I was being contentious for just knocking on their door or approaching them on the street. I know people who would find it contentious to quote the Family Proclamation in a talk or lesson. I have experienced people who have left the church who use accusations of contention as a shield and a weapon to silence their family and friends. So what is more important, speaking truth or avoiding conflict/contention? Conflict avoidance leads us down this spiral of silence where the only voices speaking out are those advocating for teachings contrary to the Lord’s way. So what do we do? This was bothering me. Aren’t we supposed to raise a voice of warning to our neighbors? What is the measuring stick by which contentious behavior is measured? Is it the outcome or the reaction of the other person that determines contention? If I speak truth and someone gets offended does that mean I took a page out of Satan’s playbook? Then this video came to mind (and your video on the Times of the Gentiles). If we do everything we can to avoid conflict/contention then the enemies of the Church will weaponize that against us and we will back down more and more to avoid conflict, making it impossible for the truth to be known and understood, creating exactly the environment you describe here where people’s true agency is no longer there due to the wickedness of the people. This explains why the Lord was so adamant in rebuking the brethren in Section 93 for not raising their families in light and truth. (Note: I might be misrepresenting Pres Nelson’s words. I am looking forward to the talk text being released so I can study through it more)

I get into quite a few discussions on Twitter...some political, some religious. After Pres. Nelson's talk, I have not changed my views, but often how I express them. I'm actually pretty good at coming up with snarky remarks. It feels fun, but it doesn't actually create understanding. I now stick to my position, but try to be more neutral in my tone. If someone responds in a hateful or negative way, I don't meet their tone. If the conversation stops being of substance, I just withdraw. I'm still practicing this new approach, but it makes sense.

Where my mind went during the “light and glory” teaching was that the followers of Christ need to faithfully endure the coming tribulations in order to receive additional light and measure of glory. Personally, I don’t see the majority of Christians as being persecuted yet to the extent of the prophesies and historical precedents. It’s going to get a whole lot worse and a whole lot more Christians will deny their faith to “save” themselves.
