People joking in the comments about the slowness of the invasion. You fail to recognize that due to its desertic mountainous geography Ethiopia is not easy to conquer and control. Just think that the soviets and the americans couldn't control the whole Afghanistan despite the much bigger technology gap (superior to the gap between Italy and Ethiopia)

I knew that my country during WW2 was still anchored to the tactics of the First World War, the trench ones. Seeing it represented here, I begin to understand why the fears of the German generals (few of italian generals choose new tactics, most of them they are just so old to have fight even in ww1). as vittorio manuele orlando once said for the last vittorio veneto's battle during ww1: "Tra l'inazione e la sconfitta, preferisco la sconfitta. Si muova!" > "Between inaction and defeat, I prefer defeat. Let's move!" (referred to general armando diaz).

The power struggles that ensued during Haile Selassie's ascent to the throne amidst Ethiopian nobles significantly weakened Ethiopia, resulting in diminished military strength, particularly in the central and northern regions. The conflicts between Lij Eyasu and Shewan forces inflicted heavy casualties on both sides, especially in Shewa and Wollo,. Additionally, the war between the Shewan coalition and the Gonderian forces, led by Empress Zewditu's husband, further drained Ethiopia's resources and military prowess. These internal conflicts left Ethiopia vulnerable and ill-prepared for external threats by the time.

Thanks for the video! The reason why the video ends with some Ethiopians sacks of resistance is because, according to Mack Smith, it took the Italians until the eve of WW2 in 1940 to control effectively 90% of territory and the Ethiopian resistance went from 100k fighters in 1937 to 25k in 1938. In particular after the fall of Addis Abeba in May 1936 the regent appointed by the emperor, Imru Haile Selassie, surrendered in December 1936 and the two last main Ethiopian commanders, Ras Desta Damtwe and Haile Mariam, were killed in February 1937 and in June 1938 respectively. Italy to fight the fierce Ethiopian resistance had to utilize chimical warfare that was made illegal by the protocol of Geneva in 1925. One of the Last sacks of resistance near the city of Menz were rounded up in March 1939 and after that the resistance was forced to stay in the border zone near Sudan. In the end Italian East Africa was recognized by all countries with even the Usa considering recognizing all of the italian empire, however there was the exception of the URSS. The number of italian colonist went from 6,000 in Eritrea and Somalia in 1936 to 170,000 in the whole Italian east Africa in 1940 and the italians built many infrastructures and contrasted slavery that although was previously banned by Ethiopia was still largely used. Even for a small period of time, between 1936 and 1941, Ethiopia was an Italian colony, despite like many other colonized countries having still a great resistance movement.

very good observations. When WW2 started, Italy had effectively being fighting heavily on 2 fronts for the prior half decade;. Chiefly in Spain, where their so-called "volunteer expedition", with more than 50000 troops committed from 1936 onwards, was more of a downscaled army, with corresponding equipment and hardware continuously coming. In Ethiopia, where they had to quell the resistance in a land three times as large than Italy proper, a largely mountainous one at that, and above all where dozens of tribes and ethnicities were brought together by an untouchable, revered God-Emperor-like leader figure for millennia, and now were expected to suddenly bow to a foreign "emperor" thousands of miles away? not very good premises for a pacification effort! Also, we must mention Lybia, officially done and conquered in 1912, but where actually there had been a long-lasting uprising movement that had barely begun to die off in the first half of the 30's, hence the unusually large deployment therein of the Regio Esercito, to ward off any menace from the desert... just in case.

Ethiopia was never colonized, and I can see from your name that you are Italian. There was no lasting colonial structure built, and it was not an administrative entity. This makes it comparable to the German occupation of France. This is why modern historians consider it an occupation, not a colonization. This is such common knowledge you can easily google it and find it, which makes me wonder why you're purposefully trying to misrepresent history.

The video should had the days count going faster, as the first months were mostly spent as a build up and preparations of troops. Also the Italian casualties count the dead (a few thousands) the injured and the sick togethers, while the Ethiopian casualties only count the deaths. In any case it’s interesting to see the speed of conquests as most of Ethiopia is mountainous and military experts predicted that it would have taken much more time to conquer it.

Ethiopia's resistance against colonization in the 19th century was impressive, after that it gained international recognising and industrialised really fast it became Africa's most developed and rich country. But it was still less advanced than the rest of the world, that's why they were a ancient-like empire until the 80s, when the republicans took over the country. They didn't surrender to Mussolini, they continued fighting for independence; and they stayed neutral during the 1st Cold War until the foundation of the republic. Now they are at a Civil war. I hope Ethiopia can survive. 🇪🇦❤️🇪🇹

How many of you believe that the uploader dug trough reliable army records from both sides to accurately represent the exact number of soldiers on the front every day? What's the point of having the number increase all the time like that? Just use a general estimate instead of making it up and having the number constantly increase for dramatic effect.

Спустя ещё 2 года войны, Италия и вовсе была захвачена союзниками Советская армия слабее итальянской? Ооо, ну давай и тут разнесу тебя 1.
