Very nice video! My daughter's friend's mother asked me if I could come over the next day to help her clean her home. She told me that her father whom she never met was coming to meet her in 3 days. She was tearfully over whelmed by all her housework that needed to be done. My 12 year old daughter and I went cheerfully to her home bright and early to help her clean. It really was a blessing to me that I was able to help this very grateful lady. So please don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help, there are people who would love to help you whip your home together.

I didn't realize how important the appearance thing is. It is HUGE! I can see why you put iflt first. Thank you! Dress in a way that makes you feel confident as well as comfortable. It makes a big difference and your husband will notice. You and your marriage are worth the investment.

That gratitude piece is so important and I’m so glad you brought that up! Because it’s easy to become down on ourselves or even envious that other people have a maid or housekeeper to do everything for them. The truth is we are so blessed to 1) have a home and family to take care of 2) have the health to be able to do the work ourselves 3) be able to enjoy the fruits of our own labor and know that we are being good stewards of our homes and families ❤

I think it is wise even if you prefer to do things alone to have your children participate. Adults don't just happen, so setting the example and incorporating them in daily chores is important. As a latchkey kid there are so many skills I lack because baby boomers were to busy with their own lives to provide the guidance of what it takes to run a home or rear children properly.

I think the pressure for introverted homemakers to always include their children is hard. I include my children in the housework but when I feel like being alone I honor that. Very important for people who need alone time and are feeling overwhelmed. ♥

One thing thats helped me too is reminding myself that I like living in a clean home, myself. Like, it's not always about everyone else in the house. Tbh, the boys would happily live in much messier dirtier circumstances. But... *I* like a clean home.

Happy Homemaking, Jennifer and thank you! As an introvert also, I love and cherish being alone whilst cleaning and honestly don’t have the kids do this with me - the only exception is their own rooms/sinks, putting away their own laundry and the dishes. My eldest is at university and keeps his room impeccably tidy because that’s the one space he was responsible for, so no negative outcomes from not including them in other tasks here 😊 Audiobooks have made cleaning into a very desirable practice, I do agree! Have a wonderful week ❤

❤️Hello Jennifer & everyone❤️I have 4 children, two in there 20’s & 2 teenagers. With my older two growing up I made them do a chore a day. With my younger two I give them chores only on Saturdays. My older ones began complaining that they wanted to have free time & rest after getting back from school so I decided to only give chores on Saturdays to my younger two just to bring a balance. I can only hope & pray that as they watch me daily taking care of our home & family that they one day will do the same. My kids are all soo different, one of my girls is passionate about homemaking but the other total opposite. Both my boys are the same, one dreads doing chores & the other gladly helps whenever & often comes to help me food prep without even asking him.

To all of you with young children, babies, and toddlers, my heart 💜 goes out to you… I happen to be a “Baby Boomer,” who was not allowed, per our state law, to leave children without a babysitter/adult supervision until age 12. I worked 10 minutes (or less depending on lights) down the street from where we lived and our daughter never considered herself a “latchkey kid!” She was taught to do her laundry, set the table for our family dinner of 3 each evening (NO cooking 😂) and begin her homework. NOW she’s 42 and mother of our granddaughter, who is almost 4! Enter “overwhelmed,” my daughter (who her Dad & I have supported enthusiastically her entire life!) This 3-1/2 year old has the opposite personality of our daughter and arrived screaming and just decided to stop about 6 months ago. Totally overwhelmed, our daughter couldn’t balance her own sleep with the energy it required/requires to attend to this child’s needs! So please, you mothers, know you are HEARD! Big hugs 🤗 ❤

I got my kids baby cleaning toys like a tiny broom etc. They got under my feet a lot but they could have tons of fun doing dishes that aren't heavy or knives. They absolutely did break a bunch. Or, they got bored and learned to entertain themselves by making a new mess for me to tidy lol. Now with five they have their own chores to earn money for sweets or small toys. And I ask them wether they would tidy their things or i will bring them to the charity shop for kids who will look after them lol.

I had a bunch of little kids at home too. I think it is okay to gate off parts of the house from little ones (upstairs, the kitchen if you can, wherever the trouble is!) They can only go in there with grown ups until they can handle it. I also had one totally "kid proof" room next to the kitchen where they had their toys and things and I would gate them in there when it was time for me to get something done or make supper. If I was on my A-game I would remember to get out a cool toy, a small mess, or unusual activity- new coloring stuff, pots and pans, duplos, a box to color on, water and cups, a small ball of yarn... I could still see and talk to them and get things done. After breakfast I would tell them I need half an hour to clean the kitchen and start some laundry or whatever and then we'll go for a walk/read a book/do something together. I tried to see and understand things from their point of view, and they're usually pretty okay with doing their own thing for a bit if there's a plan for mom time or a reward. Little baby would be in the swing near me, not in the playroom unless I was. I showered at night so I could get up and be dressed and going before everyone else got up in the morning. I tried my best to keep a nursing routine, with a routine of what big kids would do at that time. Having a simple plan is key, but not getting hung up on it is important too. Keep your to-do list short and enjoy the cuteness. If I had to do tv I put on calmer things like sheepdogs working, a ballet, equestrian events, people working or making things to music. We saved the cartoons for after dinner when company came or if they were super good at church or anything during which it was hard to behave. It's a great incentive. I guess I had a lot to say! I'm not a natural at routines and planning, so I was proud of what I managed to put together in those years! Now they're big kids and I have lots of help with the current little ones, though it's less orderly around here these days!

Three children at those ages is overwhelmingly! Just remember: 1) it’s supposed to be hard. It’s not hard because you’re not good at it. Things wouldn’t be better if you were different. They would still be hard because that’s normal. It’s like getting sore muscles, but this soreness will last a while. You WILL get through it and come out stronger in so many ways! 2) right now you are regulating your emotions AND the children’s, which is extremely taxing. Be patient with yourself. Empathize with them again and again. Romanticize as much as you can because a toddler handing you dandelions is a thing to delight in. Especially when they bring in dirt and roots with the dandelions! Laugh as much as humanly possible! 3) I liked “A Mother’s Rule of Life” by Holly Pierlot. Also Jennifer’s content was very calming for me! I tried to do more “routines” rather than keeping to a strict schedule by the clock. God bless you, sweet Mama!

Hi Jennifer! I love your videos and those lovely new labels! I’m an educator and homemaker and doing my doctorate in equity/social justice and well-being studies so thought I would add this perspective: Over the course of history, homemaking was a collective process so I think women in modern society should remember not to feel guilty about expectations to do it all themselves! I like your point about getting help-if they can’t afford professional help, then we, as a supportive tribe can advocate for more affordable childcare and better wages for women to help other women! Also, self-compassion and self love is key-it’s ok to not feel enthusiastic about homemaking as well. It just may not be your thing or you may be in dire circumstances so you don’t need to love it and that’s ok! Last thing: some people with ADHD or low dopamine receptors might benefit from starting with the interesting task to get them going! Anyway, just some food for thought . :)) You are an inspiration and I love your channel!

Having help was the best money I’ve spent. I hired a home health aide to take care of my dads needs, a dog trainer to play with our 3 doodles and also a house cleaner to do our floors 3 times a week since the dogs track in so much dirt. Surprisingly, these services are affordable and they take stress off my plate. They also help me avoid burnout. I much rather spend less in other areas and spend the money on services like these to give myself peace of mind and a break.

One thing that changed everything for me was this: before I was frustrated because I was waiting for my homemaking to be done in order to have fun with me hobbies, but now I've changed my mindset and homemaking is officially my first hobby! I've found inner fullfilment and I'm satisfied with it, so now if I do ever have a munite to read a book it's a bonus, but I had fun in the meantime.

I try to stay positive about homemaking, but if I am honest, it has always been hard for me. I'm trying to change my mindset with daily affirmations. My Mother always worked because my Dad left our family when I was very young. My Mother didn't have the opportnity to attend school after 5th grade because of the poverty the family experienced in the decades following the depression. She was a lovely christian woman and she didn't have the opportunity to be a full-time homemaker, but she did the best that she could when she was at home. I always feel that my time is so divided between work and home, but I know I have to continue to work on improving my mindset, because everyone faces obstacles and I don't wa nt to be a bitter person.

Love these tips! Appearance is huge. My husband is a physician that sees patients at home. He has to keep the door closed due to privacy laws. It gets super hot in his office therefore i freeze in the rest of the house. I get dressed but find myself putting on layers, such as sweat pants and my robe on top of my jeans and top. I find myself less productive during these times. Guess I need to invest in a cardigan type coat. I am so ready for spring!!

Hi Jennifer, Knowing one’s self is essential! My Lyme disease causes low energy in the morning and much more energy after my noon nap! My zone is finishing up the kitchen after the children do the dinner dishes; I put on “kitchen” outfit, fill our white sink with bleach water and lightly bleach all our white countertops, missed smudges on white cabinets and any missed surfaces. Then I light a candle, go get my shower and enjoy the beautifully cleaned kitchen for 12 hours! The family always notices and mentions how nice it is. Thanks for the inspiration, Julie 🌷

Thank you for these words of wisdom, Jennifer! I agree wholeheartedly. I am naturally enthusiastic person and the seasons of burn-out affect me tremendously, and my whole outlook because my enthusiasm dies and I go into survival mode. I have been getting much better at handling these seasons, due to the methods you mention! When I was a teenager, I read the book by Brian Tracy “Eat That Frog” and he talks about getting your hardest, most unpleasant tasks done first! It is a game changer. Id also like to mention that there is a song releasing later this month that has been going viral on TikTok, I’ve heard, and it is absolutely atrocious towards home making, femininity, and hateful towards men in general. I’m so thankful we have your videos that show how to be elegant and authentic in homemaking and not vitriolic and vicious and bitter and hateful towards homemaking. ❤❤❤❤

Hello Jennifer. I like your idea of listening to an e-book while doing chores. Do you have any favorites to share? Thank you!

There is such good wisdom here. I would like to share something that helped me that has been a game changer. I read or heard somewhere that managing our tasks to our energy levels. How I structure my day to keep me enthused is I do my morning tasks, make the bed, tidying, etc., and enjoy the rest of the morning, thus taking time for myself. At around noon, I do my deep cleaning. I love mornings and I didn't want to do my most of my chores during that time.

The word enthusiasm originates from the Greek ἐνθουσιασμός from ἐν (en, “in”) and θεός (theós, “god”), meaning "inspired or possessed by [a] god"

Do you have any advice for nursing moms who would like to wear nice clothes but are always getting spit up on, or can't find nice clothes which are flattering and are nursing friendly. I really would like to dress better at home, but always end up in a nursing cami and leggings with a messy bun.

I started watching this and burst into tears. My husband wants me to go back to work. Our kids are all in school full time. Last night he said the work I do at home now (not taking care of children full time) is trivial. Its not important and he wants me to start working outside the home to make money. We actually got into a big fight because I said I think this is important work and it keeps me busy and he said we have machines to do the work. What should I do? Can you make a video about this, about not feeling appreciated or thinking this work is important? I am literally crying while trying this:(

Dear one: As a test would it be possible for your husband to take over the housework in the evenings and on week- ends for about a month to so he could experience your concerns before you go to work? After the month he might want to be willing to share in the housework OR have you stay home with your children after he sees what it is really like for a working mom.♥

@@micheleboschert175 When we talked about this again, I told him if I go back to work full time he will have to share in the cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, laundry, picking up kids from school, etc. I said I was not going to work outside the home and do everything in the home too. I even said we would have to switch who takes off work if the kids are sick or have dr appts, etc. He did not like hearing that. I said I would be willing to work part time, but I do not want to be away from home too much.

@Stefanie Medina I will pray for you! I hope you can stay home and I second the other commenter's post! Maybe agree that if hubby can do all those chores after work and on weekends for 6 months straight, then you can revisit the idea. Yes, we do have machines, however, at this point in time, a human being must operate those machines. Washers, dryers, dishwashers do not operate themselves, not to mention stoves and ovens. God bless you!

I will pray for you, this is a common problem with men, that many simply do not see or understand the amount of labour and mental planning that goes into running a home. Please do remind him that he will need to pick up a lot of household tasks ( and do them well) if he wants you to share the task of providing financially. And if you do, don't take anything more than a part time role.

I love taking pride in my home, but I hate cleaning the bathroom! That has been my job since I was a kid. I live alone and I'm 38 and I'm the only one who messes up the bathroom, but I still don't like it. It's a tiny windowless room with very little storage and no counter space. Any tips to help me not dread this room?
