There are 3 main areas that I consistently have worked on over the last 3 years and it has paid off. Weight loss (over 100lb lost, just 30lb to go), becoming debt free (which we hit), and majorly decluttering my home (purged about 50% making it far easier to tidy and clean.)

@@jat6547 i dont think its proper to tell the wife. I think if he decides to act on it, she will eventually find out because God will make sure of it. I totally agree with the compound effect. I decided to learn Italian beginning of 2022 as my new year’s resolution. I have been consistently learning for a year and two months. Sometimes only 5-15 mins a day, sometimes a couple of hours a day, depending on my schedule. Now I can read and write pretty well and speak pretty good. I listen to Italian podcast pretty much every night for 10-20 mins, now I can understand a lot more than before. So a little time every day + consistency = giant change.

@daffidalswuli I don’t know if you’ll even see this since you wrote your comment over four months ago. THANK YOU so much for sharing- you don’t know how encouraging this is to me. May I ask a question? Did you have any knowledge of Italian beforehand or were you starting from scratch? I’m asking because I’ve always wanted to learn French but have no background or previous experience to build on. If you see this, thank you for your time

@@quietandmildone hi there! No, I didn’t have any Italian knowledge or background. I just love the language and the sound of it. I started as an absolute beginner. I watched some various very basic videos on italian letter pronunciations first. Then I use an app called Innovative to study systematically from grammar, use of words to text and conversations. I mainly listen to a podcast called Coffee Break Italian to practice my listening. They started from very beginning and gradually help u make progress, so u don’t feel u don’t understand a thing they are talking about. I also found a professor on KZbin who teaches Italian language using textbook, so I study with him consistently as well. The two apps I use (Innovative and coffee break Italian) also have many other languages, like French. I recommend to use them to study if u are serous about learning the language. Hope that helps and have fun in your language learning! I imagine one day I can retire in Italy and speak fluent Italian there! Haha. My wild dream!

Consistency is everything in music. I am an opera singer. I’ve been singing scales and arpeggios in my warm up every single day for more than 25 years. This daily check in not only warms up my body, my voice and my ears, but also helps me get into the meditative, focused state I need in order to learn the music and to find my own interpretation. Consistency has helped me get to a place where I am singing better than ever and where I can trust my creativity in making bold, courageous choices.

I have consistently exercised in different ways throughout the years, but this was the first time I made a goal, which I have been slowly working on. Today, I did 60 of each and a 2.75 minute plank. I think so much can be determined by who we are around all the time. I’ve seen people with great potential marry a much less motivated person, and the more driven person seems to dial that down to match their spouse. It can be the same with friend groups as well. If you are trying to be healthy or lose weight and around people who don’t care or even make fun of healthy food or working out, then you are going to either dial it back or hide it or give in to unhealthy temptations more.

EXCELLENT video, Jennifer! These reminders are essential. It’s very important to review all of this wisdom now and again, especially at times of great change. I’m 52. My children are flying the nest. My body has changed. The job I lived for (full time Mom) has phased out. I’m staring newness in the face. Three years ago I was fortunate enough to find a fabulous job. Now the hard work of consistent NEW habits is beginning. It’s hard to figure things out all over again! I must be strong and pull out of myself new courage. Thank you dear for this intense reminder. My faith tells me that “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength “ and “be strong and courageous, the Lord will be with you.” These don’t just happen. They take hard work. I raised my children with the verse “do not grow weary of good doing, for you will reap a reward if you do not give up.” BTW-you look fantastic in grey!

I started in January working out 20 minutes every day. Just 2.5 months later I can see tremendous results! My husband is deployed and came home recently and was shocked by my muscle definition. I also jump rope for 2 minutes every day. I know my stamina is increasing. Just this one area is bringing me a lot of joy and satisfaction so I started March 1st cutting out dairy and sugar. Just 19 days in and I have joint pains (that I've had for years) that are 95% gone! LOVED this video. Thanks!

I haven’t read The Compound Effect, but I’ve read Atomic Habits and am now listening to The 5am Club. I think the science of forming small consistent habits is fascinating especially since our society values the quick fix/magic pill. I’ve reaped the benefits of compound habits in changing my diet to a far healthier one over the years and consistently exercising. Now, these changes help me feel emotionally and mentally strong, and it is not just about the physician benefits. Compound habits also helped me become a morning person! Funnily enough, it wasn’t until after having children (3) that I discovered the value of early mornings. Thank you Jennifer for another thoughtful and inspiring video!

I start out well but staying consistent is my issue. I’ll let some outside situations derail me. I know sometimes it happens with medical issues or family and I’ve had some tough times in the last seven years. I’ve lost my brother and my mom. I’ve fought off cancer and was laid off for missing too much work due to cancer treatment. But I am trying to get back and move forward with my goals. I’m trying not to beat myself up if I do lose consistently which I think should be mentioned. One needs to just get back up and start again and that’s what I’m doing. I’m actually rethinking my morning routine today.

Thank you so much, Jennifer, for sharing this, and for being such an inspiration to me. I’ve struggled with consistency my whole life. One thing that set me back in frustration for many years is I would write down the 79 things I wanted to improve, and I couldn’t make so many changes at once. Lately I’ve been challenging myself to make just a few really small changes, and let my success in those tiny things propel me forward, and prove to myself that I can do it. Then once it has become a habit, I can use that brain space for other things. For example, I am a harpist. I set a goal to play one song after my kids go to bed, I would love to give them that memory of their mom filling the home with soft, gentle, restful music to help them relax and sleep. My husband and I enjoy it, too. Thank you again for the helpful tips, and your example.

My Mom & adult sister played scrabble. Sister went for big words, triple word scores etc. Mom consistently used small common words wherever they would fit. In the end Mom won by two points. Both techniques were about equal in the end, but Small consistent wins are easier, more reliable, and less stressful to attain. This illustrates how important consistency is. (Triple word scores are a little more exciting though.)😉

Intentionality is something lacking in society today. Too many people float through life making reactionary decisions all the time which can be stressful because it feels like nothing is within your control. I’ve noticed that when I’m intentional with what I’m doing, I feel stronger and more confident which then leads to more healthy decisions.

Just in the first point, I am already relating this to diet and nutrition! A couple years ago I had to change/restrict my diet and really recently I’ve started to learn about nutrition (I’m getting really “crunchy”), and please be encouraged if anyone has food restrictions or gut damage - small, wise choices made consistently over time will yield a positive result! Edit: You mentioned food and diet several times in the rest of the video. :) The compound effect has definitely profited me in the area of diet! I was never really overweight, but was malnourished from gluten damage. Over the past 2 years, every little day of not eating gluten and slowly eating more and more healthy has yielded results that I have days that I almost feel back to normal!

Jennifer, I think what happens is it becomes overwhelming when you know you have changes to make, you know why you’re making them, but run out of steam and motivation when actually trying to accomplish. For example for me, I’ve spent a lot of resources on my health (time and money! And stress)! I have successfully (somehow?!) reduced my acne and most about 35 pounds, thankfully. i thought I’d feel so happy and feel so great! I am definitely thankful I no longer have acne, however, I still don’t feel good. My eczema and itchiness seems to have worsened. I have lost nearly all my hair (I attributed it to significantly reducing my caloric intake, stress, and maybe even (long?) Covid,)-my hair is literally less than 1/4 of my previously ponytail thickness. And after losing all this weight, I don’t know how to dress myself to flatter my new body while still being comfortable. And because I am much thinner my posture has significantly worsened. I’m sick of everyone commenting on losing the weight, skin looking worse, hair shedding, and posture. Where do I start? What do I prioritize? It would be so helpful for you to think about how you would advise your previous self on where to start? For me right now, it’s trying to consciously reduce social media, go to bed early so I can wake early consistently , make conscious skincare and medical decisions to track health progresses and setbacks, and look for a job that works for me and my skill set and work life balance needs. I realized though, I should also throw in curating a 10 item wardrobe and learning how to look presentable (hair, makeup, clothes) because a family member had a baby early that I seem to be volunteering to help out for and nothing fits and I’m so uncomfortable in my own clothes. I am also worried about a family event in about one month because I know my hair is still too thin and hasn’t grown back sufficiently and I’m going to get so many questions. All this rambling to say: can you please make a video on thinking back and making a list on the order you would prioritize things? What would you do first, second, third, etc to bring about the biggest dividends and time savers (even if it initially seems like you’re front loading it so you can reap the rewards later)in your life after living through it?

Whatever terminology one assigns to the process of setting goals, doing so is essential to achieving any measure of success. I set goals for myself when I entered a professional career, and I met every single goal, and within the time frame I had set for myself, despite major family crises, a divorce, re-location, as well as a multitude of other, smaller issues. I note this, not to sound my trumpet, but to second your recommendations. Goals don't need to be career oriented, everyday life (finally organizing that basement, attic, or even the pantry), vacation dream, learning a new domestic skill, whatever - just write it down, and thoughtfully, methodically, persistently, go after it. And don't let yourself be distracted. One doesn't need to be a pit bull about the process, but consider the ant, or whatever example of dogged perseverance comes to mind.

When I asked two of our older teenage grand daughters, who had lost their books in a fire, what one book they would most like replaced, they each (I asked them separately) said without much hesitation, “THE COMPOUND EFFECT by Darren Hardy.” That is when I discovered said book and decided it was a must read! To make myself do some sort of regular exercise to regain lung health and energy I made it a prerequisite for me to do some sort of workout before I can play a once a day game (Wordle Word) that I really enjoy playing. It has helped me be consistent and I have made noticeable gains. I agree with all the many good compliments/observances of you in these comments, Jennifer! Love, Paula

Excellent advice Jennifer❣️I started French lessons at age 45 and kept signing up for lessons for about 20 years. It feels so good to feel more comfortable going to France now. I am also starting to cut down on the amount of cheese, millt, sugar, and chocolate I have been eating, realizing I don’t need as much as I was eating. Eating like the French = moderation❣️🥰💕God bless you❣️

You asked if your viewers have an example of the compound effect in their own lives. Yes! I do. I am 67 and 7 years ago I decided to do something I had been wanting to do since I was 4 yrs old and told as a child and teenager that I could not do. I'm not kidding. So I started violin lessons ... and to be successful daily practice is essential. Dr Suzuki says that students should practice every day that they eat. Even on days when energy is low ... or very busy ... daily practice is essential. I now play in a classical orchestra ... 1 to 2 hours of practice a day .... and when I can't, at least a half an hour .... the key is consistency. And when you add up all those hours ... wow!!!! Your video defined this phenomenon for me ... thx. Am excited to write down my goals and why I want them.

@ the Daily Connoisseur Hello 🙋Jennifer ---------- Your presentation is so well done. You effectively share your knowledge because you are literally a "lead by example/lead by doing" kind of person, so it is very easy to SEE what you are saying. Your video is an excellent lesson. And I know that I will use it as a tool to keep myself on track, concerning how to get to whatever I am aiming for. I have not read The Compound Effect, though I have now added it to my list of things that I will be certain to do. Our local book store is likely to have a copy, otherwise I will just order it. Thank You.
