As a Type 5, I, too, fact check often and I also rarely well tell somebody they are wrong, because I like the comfort internally of me being right, and I don't really have to be an external douche about it. Everything you described here nailed me to a tee and I appreciate it!

The lighthouse with the hearts made me tear up. That's how I've thought of love most of my life. A stormy night that never ends, while I'm safe inside a large lighthouse outside of town. Beaming the lighthouse continuously over the ocean, waiting for someone who understands me to see where land is and come inside the lighthouse out of the storm.

I’m a Five and this was EXTREMELY accurate. The shoe part was hilarious and exactly right. I have an immense amount of different interests that people have absolutely no idea about. I’m a commodity trader by profession, a trained classical pianist and music theorist for 30+ years. I began philosophical , comparative religious, and occult studies at around age 15, just for fun, and have never stopped. I’m fascinated by the chemical breakdown of everyday food items and their chemical composition changes under different conditions. And have just begun studying Classical French and Italian pastry. And occasionally I take a tuning fork and walk around my city trying to figure out what notes of all the sounds that I hear in the city. For example, what note of the scale is a car horn, a bird, or the sound of a lawnmower etc, relative to the tuning fork which is tuned to A = 432 hz. I sing or hum the note A, and then match it up to the sounds of what I hear. This is just the tip of the iceberg with all of this craziness. And it NEVER stops, I need to thoroughly understand EVERYTHING! I’m 49, so I’ve been doing this a long time. And most people have no idea about any of this, except my job and that I play a little piano…. lol Anyway nice video.

Yay! Thank you, so happy you liked it!!🤗 I absolutely love your examples!! The tuning fork is so perfect. It's so true people have no idea just how deep the rabbit holes can be with 5s and how many cool interest areas they can be exploring! Thank you for sharing!!

I think there’s a strong desire for control in 5s. Not to control others, but their world. According to Helen Palmer, these motivations are driven from a fear of the opposite. E.g: Perfectionists-failure.
@TrueYouSystems Жыл бұрын
Great point! Many 5s do experience a need for some type of control of their environment. 5s often feel overwhelmed by the world and all its demands and intrusions, and so they try to control how they interact with it. Thanks for the comment!

We don't want to be controlled by others. That's for sure. That's why we avoid others, so they don't control us. Eights try to control people before they are controlled.

Yeah, don't ask me why I do things the way I do. It's my system, and it's efficient, but if I spend time explaining it to you, it won't be efficient anymore. And don't ask me what I'm thinking, because if it was worth discussing I'd already be talking. Also, don't touch my desk or phone, because there's nothing of yours in there, and you'll mess things up. Also don't talk so much. And stop crying, it's rude.
@TrueYouSystems Жыл бұрын
😆 This is so great! Yes, this really illustrates what efficiency can look like for 5s. It's not the multi-tasking, social-networking, wheeler-dealer, lots-getting-done-quickly model (Type 3). It's... don't intrude into my mind; I've built a mind palace in there that runs perfectly and I can't waste my time and energy trying to explain it to an outsider who I've already assessed won't understand it. But finding others who *do* understand can be so exciting for 5s and a great opportunity to connect in the world of knowledge and ideas that 5s crave as well.

I do fact check and I also let people know, which has caused a lot of issues in the past, but I also have a strong 8 in my tritype, which probably leads to the more confrontational attitude towards people. Also the "hated phrases" part made me laugh. My type 4 friend now knows that I generally won't answer him meaningfully if he asks "how are you feeling?", but instead asks "what's been going on?" or "what's going through your head about (insert situation here)?", which has the benefit of giving the kind of result that his original question had been trying to get at!

1:05 Literally this week I'm phasing out a pair of shoes that I've had since high school that's served me as normal shoe, gardening shoe, and for the past few months as a weightlifting shoe - now it's just shredded and I have to, unfortunately and with great sadness, let them go. They've served me well, on and off, for about 20 years. It's not the only shoe that's served in a similar systemic capacity either, so you're spot on.

I bought the same shoes for years, until a podiatrist recommended a different brand. Now I buy 2 pairs of these new shoes at a time, so I can alternate them daily, and when they start to wear out, those become my backup pairs, in case my top tier shoes are wet. Then they become lawn mowing shoes on the next rung down the ladder. I want to use the shoe up completely.

All spot on. I have to add, that if someone is angry in an argument, yes, it is often humorous to witness their lack of emotional control. But, if their irrational behavior is directly affecting me, or my projects or my independence, etc, it can be infuriating. And if they are insistent about hammering away at the argument without giving me some time to think, or without giving themselves time to calm down and think for themselves, I might be pressured into saying some things I'd rather not say in the moment.

This is a great point! I try to emphasize in my videos about fives that they are indeed humans, not robots! 😊 And this means that different 5s have a wide diversity of backgrounds and experiences, and so type 5 patterns can manifest differently depending on the individual. Ultimately, the Enneagram is looking at internal motivations, drives, and fixations, rather than outward-facing behaviors. You might be interested in my "3 kinds of INTJ 5" video (even if you are not an INTJ -- most of it applies to 5s in general), as it gets into what can make different 5s behave differently. I just did the enneagram for the first time and got 853, but 8 and 5 were almost neck and neck. I really resonate with this description, aside from the obsessive shoe system.
@TrueYouSystems Жыл бұрын
So interesting! There are specific ways 853 interacts to create the "solution master" and may speak to why type 5 resonates so much with you. Types 8 and 5 share the similarity that they both avoid being dependent on other people and subject to their needs and control. 5 and 3 share a need to be seen as competent and capable. All three types lean towards "fixing things" with 3 and 8 doing this quickly and 5 meticulously and focused. I hope this is helpful! Thank you for sharing and helping to deepen our understanding!🤗

Systems - I have my mommy time on the same day each week, at the same bar because I like the bartender and patrons. It annoys me when someone intrudes on that sacred time. I also shop at the same stores and go to the same instructor each week for my spin classes. Jessica Simpson heels were the first that were comfortable enough to wear throughout the workday so now they are the only brand of heels I buy 😂 Fact-checking - I will pause a documentary/true crime show and go down a rabbit hole of research if something is super interesting or was stated in a way that I don’t remember it happening or if it’s just not adding up. I also like to search other movies that actors have played in once I’ve decided that I enjoy seeing them on screen and go through a mini marathon of them. One weekend I stayed in just to complete the mission impossible series after my interest was piqued by watching tom cruise in top gun 😂 My friends probably don’t know about any of this quirkiness lol

What about the wings seven and eight I think
@TrueYouSystemsАй бұрын
Great question! In the Enneagram system, wings generally refer to the adjacent types, which would be 4 and 6 for type 5. However, there is another concept that can be helpful called Tritype, which refers to your main type for each Center of Intelligence (2,3,4 for Heart, 5,6,7 for Head, and 8,9,1 for Gut/Instinct). So you might have 8 in your Tritype along with 2, 3 or 4. Types 5 and 7 also connect in other ways, as do 5 and 8, as indicated by the lines on the Enneagram symbol. Sometime those connections are described as integration/disintegration -- basically access to another types patterns of behaviour in times and strength or stress. There's a lot to dive into about that, and I'd love to make some videos sometime exploring it! Thank you for adding to the conversation here! 🤗
