Looking back 4 yrs ago I hit rock bottom with a splat. Thats where my journey started. I promise my self I will learn to love life. Being in the present is my absolute favorite thing to do. Just observing everything. I learned we need to make our own happiness by letting go and just accepting what is and see the beauty in it all. Even in times of heart ache. I learned to have Gratitude even through the hardest of times. I lost everything. I'm still trying to get back on my feet and finding peace in having no attachments have been free.

I taught myself to frame my existence like this, and life is so much more tolerable, even enjoyable, despite constant 5/10 chronic back and hip pain. It took a long time and a lot of effort to do this, trying to figure everything out the hard way. What this guy is saying is the answer I sought for over a decade and only found a couple years ago. I hope more people can see the pattern and break out of it.

I'm learning to this now. It takes practice and I can see how much I've grown in the last 4 yrs. Looking back at who I was and who I am now it feels like a life time ago.

If you go carnivore, maybe that will help your back/hip pain. It has for others.

Truly as it is. Attachment to identification is the suffering. Be grateful for existence only. Thank you Shi Heng.

I was so shocked when the interviewer said he wants the Porsche etc like, I've forgotten people still think like that. And he said so to a Shaolin monk!? Is he for real? Or he wanted us to get the answer to that question in case WE want the Porsche!? Maybe it's just me but I think even Shi Heng Yi's face dropped hearing that. Not outsourcing our happiness is great advice. Any addiction I would say falls in the same category. I wish I could be in his temple 🙏

I understand what you're saying. However I also understand the interviewers point. We are heavily influenced by what happens around us to then want the next better thing or object. It's a tale as old as time. So consider: Caveman Ug sits under his tree. It's a nice tree and he's content. Shugg comes over though and says to Ug he has a stone cave. It's better than the tree. 🤣 There are no birds in the cave so less mess. Ug upgrades. He gets a cave. Then dugg comes over and talks about fire... Ug gets fire. A few weeks later Nugg tells ug he has rugs on his floor - it's nicer. You get the pattern. So the difference here now is after generations of being convinced to upgrade (and yes largely for survival reasons) that part of our brain is very active and it's easy to get it's attention via adverts (backed by science). And we now have it reinforced by social media. To be happy you must drive this car. To be seen as successful you must have this clothing set. To be attractive only this scent will do... As I get older I must confess I am more dissilusioned with it all. Like yourself I get it less and less. I am more content with what I have. But I can understand the logic.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a Porsche - or a mansion, or any other massive desire - as long as you know it ain’t gonna make you happy! And as long as you don’t use it to try and establish and grow your sense of self.

@timothyheath577 while understand your view, is there not a contradiction there somewhere? For example, I use a car for work. I could use public transport however, for ease and facility the car makes more sense. So I'll go buy a car that suits the purpose. But if I was to say 'I really want a BMW' there has to be a logic behind it. Is it because it truly best suits my purpose? Or is it because it's a BMW with a heated seat, entertainment systems, amazing stereo, and an executive feel which brings me joy? And I think that's the trap. I also think it's very human nature though to say I want that because it does make me feel good. However it is also kind of touching on what you said - it's the understanding it shouldn't be your joy or rather it is impermanent and so it will go at some point which - if you have built your joy upon it - means you will also lose that joy and thus bring sorrow.

In many cases most people want a Porsche because of the status it will grant them. I've always had an issue with that, maybe it's just me.
