A runner has a slight pause. Like what you might see in a two motion shot. Most one motion shooters have floaters in their games. Whereas two motion shooters may utilize runners and double clutches, as it is more relevant to their skill set. This obviously isn't always the case, but something I've noticed watching NBA players.
@ryanlowe73157 жыл бұрын
I used to take my floaters off one leg but without watching or doing much research I started doing them off two and feel much more confident that it's going in and it's actually quicker for me. I say much research because I played against a point guard that did his off two so I started doing it and practicing it and it's a lot better

Rose was pretty good at the 10 foot jump floater during his MVP year. Parker is the best we'll ever see. Crazy how good he was at staying under control with it after blowing by his defender.
@dunmatta26707 жыл бұрын
I have to agree on the 2 footed take off. I've started to find a rhythm in my floaters primarily because I have more control when I gather and take off on 2 feet. I feel the reason why some smaller guards tend to get it off with one foot is because they feel it's quicker so it's less prone to getting blocked.
@bballbreakdown7 жыл бұрын

I don't understand the people that always disagree with coach. All he does is present facts and everyone can't admit they were wrong about something. I always thought Conley was good at floaters but after this video it's obvious that he isnt

He IS good at floaters. He just needs to fix his floater for better results.
@the_stewbear7 жыл бұрын
Because people don't want to learn more about the game... He isn't coming out and saying that Conley is trash, but he's offering simple critiques like obtaining better balance off 2 feet will work out advantageously for him. It's analytics vs. blatant ignorance...
@richardsaxon57687 жыл бұрын
Stewart Bowers exactly. I love Westbrook but when coach talks about him needing to improve in certain areas like shot selection it's obviously true and 90% of the comments are just 'he averaging a triple double' I guess NBA fans aren't open minded enough to admit faults in their favourite players

completely agree with you about Conley and how he should shoot the majority of his floater of off two feet but sometimes you kinda have to jump of off one foot to be able to get it off before the big man can block the shot. however I can't really say anything about if it's his decision to take those one footed floaters or if he's forced to take them because I abviously you are the one who go through all the footage and the stats

although that all star game wasn't that special, i decided to watch it, and there was something that caught my eye: steve kerr was mic'd up, and during a stoppage, they showed him talking to the players when huddled, and asking what plays they ran on their teams, and how he could put out certain 5-man lineups so that they would feel comfortable. ie, he knew harden ran the spain pnr, and so he was drawing on the clipboard and asking harden who they should screen the 5-man for him instead of eric gordon. for russ, he knew russ liked spreading the floor, so he asked who russ wanted on the floor for him. thought that was a cool moment.

Great Vid! Loved these little details that one never thinks about when watching games. Could you do a comparison year by year and the rise of Conley vs other guards for example Kyrie/Wall/Parker/etc. Not just by the numbers, but what really makes Conley valuable enough to get earn him a max contract. Cause I see a lot of people shaking their heads to the fact that if Conley really is worth that much as of a max deal? Thanks and again, great vid. Keep up the good work!

Very timely advice, thanks coach! Also do u make a distinction between floater and runner? The runner is off one leg while the floater is off 2? If so then does that mean u don't recommend runners at all? Maybe a follow up video on who shoots the runner well and why?
@jerrybutler44607 жыл бұрын
Coach Nick, the last thing I thought you would do was break down "that darn righty-floater".
@markhathaway94564 жыл бұрын
This kind of shot is usually difficult because it's so different than all the other shots players practice and use in games. It's short-range, high arc, one-hand, no smooth shooting motion or back over head and it's while running so there's momentum. It's got a lot of variables. What could go wrong? Everything. However, practicing the mid- to short-range shot and the high arcing shot and the high high release could help all your other shots too.
@mushrifahmed81077 жыл бұрын
Great video, but disagree a bit with you on one thing. From most of the highlights I've seen, Steph most often uses the one foot floater as shown in 1:07, because it is quicker.

You don't want to go off 1 foot because if the defense reacts accordingly you will be in a difficult position the either make the floater or pass the ball while you are in the air. If you plant both feet you can ball fake, hesitate, etc. and throw the defender off guard or make a pass while you are still on the ground.

Diego Amorena I don't think they should go after a defensive-minded center. Golden State doesn't have one, San Antonio doesn't have one, Al Horford is not a rim protector for Boston etc. Having a big man who can defend the rim is not a requirement anymore for championship conteders. They should not trade for Melo since they don't need another ball-dominant iso player.
