The Seekers perform The Carnival is over at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic
closing ceremony on 29 October 2000.
Judith had slipped on her kitchen floor and broken her hip and had to sit in a wheelchair.
Until now their last tv performance of this song that touches so many peoples hearts.

From 'down under', thanks Kimberly. ♥We Aussies were extremely proud of Judith and the boys' success overseas. And to lose Olivia 4 days later was a hell of a shock. Loved her too. Just hope the boys hang on. Can't bear to lose them too. I was in love with Judith at a very young age. I had to compete with all the other boys in my class though...lol. "She's mine!", "No, she's mine...." Such was the impact she had on we young lads...the beautiful girl next door. So Aussie she was, yet so classy a singer/musician. We already know how good Keith, Bruce, and Athol were...well they still are.

Rest in peace dear Judith Durham, 5th August 2022. Your voice and music has brought such happiness to so many thousands of people for so many years. My childhood was enriched with The Seekers records often played in our home, something I did for my children and grandchildren as part of music in their lives.

Through all these years, Judith Durham and the Seekers have exalted and praised God no matter the circumstance. Considering how contemporaries have faltered in serving themselves, it is quite refreshing to be reassured that what really matters in the end endures the test of time. As we are reminded that we are best measured in times of strife, then certainly the adversities described only serve to magnify that these seekers measure up quite well. Indeed these Seekers have succeeded in their search! It is no wonder that the heart-warming music of Judith Durham and the Seekers will persevere forever in bringing joy and inspiration to people like me, through KZbin or whatever lies ahead. Thank you so much!

Truly fantastic way to finish both the Olympic and the Paralympic Games. I remember John Clarke's "The Game" ended as the organising team failed to secure the Seekers for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games. Did Roc Birch leave the Seekers for the Paralympics? If so he is a genius (yes, Midnight Oil and Yothu Yindi at the Olympic's closing were also memorable)..

@plaetoe : Pierrot and Columbine are characters often used for cosume in carnivals. Pierrot, for example, is the black-and-white clown. The song references them probably because they are the costumes worn by the singer and her/his lover.

A Jot: At the 2000 Paralympics Judith, before her opening song, gave praise to the Lord for her "recovery from surgery" & her faith" in Him. This was deleted from the video. A Note: "Healing is very real. Miracles are very real." Judith has taught us this undying truth. All the best for a Joyous 50th Anniversary Tour, Jamieson (Peter) & Friends

In the opening scene, with clouds of war in the background, the man on his hands had marched into the Olymic stadium to rapturous applause. Were the Seekers selected with prompting from John Clarke of The Games?

I had never thought of "carnival" as a song to dance to... I had forgotten the closing ceremony for the Paralympics. Blah to the organisers of the actual Olympics, who said they didn't want The Seekers... I'll not give their reason, because I don't really remember it, and I think it was raather insulting.

Yes it was rather surprising to see plus the tickertape environment. As a "para" myself I have found many of us like soulful music sung with heart which the Seekers do so superbly. What a wonderful group.

What specific carnival was this song written about? All carnivals must come to an end because everybody has to get back to work on Monday. I guess this carnival must have been back in the mid-1960's. Then there was the carnival where Mr Kite was the beneficiary. That one may have happened around the same time. I guess it's over, too.

The only female voice I've heard that I'd compare to Judith is Anita Carter, but sadly Anita never really broke away from her Carter Family/Johnny Cash back up role. If she'd have recorded more mainstream music, I think she would have been every bit as successful and well known as Judith, and being American, perhaps even more widely known. The two most angelic voices I've heard.

I find it so profound that Dusty sang, "Goin Back", which became her eulogy & Judith sang lead on,"The Carnival is Over" which will, doubtless, become hers. Both vocally-gifted and hugely influential singers, role models and great women; without Dusty, there'd arguably be no, "The Carnival is Over" and, without Judith's interpretation of Tom Springfield's beautiful ballad, we wouldn't have this heart-breaking rendition by which to remember and miss Judith. 💔😔💖💖
