"Making a reality without dream is hard" Reality is often disappointing.
@TheAyanamiRei5 жыл бұрын
Well it makes perfect sense. AFter all...Reality is constrainted, why a Dream is INFINITE. Walt Disney and others had a dream of flying cars in the future....but it never came. You don't need details to have a Dream, you just need an IDEA. You need a CONCEPT for a story...but WRITING that story? That's a different thing ENTIRELY! It's why Reality is often times disappointing, because to MAKE something happen properly...you need countless little details. I mean we can't even get humans to use Cars in TWO Dimensional SPace properly, and you expect them to use them in THREE? Where a car could just land on someone's home and MURDER a family sitting on their couch? In order to make something new in reality, you must create a new concept...but creating that new concept doesn't require all the detail that would require it to Transcender into Reality. Even if you COULD get that Dream into Reality...we've seen how poorly people can excecute it. Why it can be so disappointing, is people don't think through to the CONSEQUENCES and the PRACTICE of those dreams in Reality. EXAMPLE: Most people who win the lottery end up with FAR worse Debt than BEFORE! IN fact for MOST...winning the lottery was CURSE! Why? It's because they think of money as limitless, because to their previously lifestyle it WAS! Only now they're spending without any limits. They have all these people claiming to be relatives or wanting to be their friend...without the Lottery Winner knowing if it's legitimate at all. Even people that WERE they friends may sccumb to GREED, causing problems with friendships.

sonic heroes that is like going back in time to stop your self from doing something you have done. If you tell your self or have someone tell your past self to not do it. Then you would not have done that which you told your self to not do. There by negating the thing you have done and well, you are going to do that thing any way. All you can do is regret and learn. Or not. If you grow positive from that which you have experienced, then good. If not, well, hopefully it won't turn out bad. So, make good choices. Because, you can not change that which you have done. And let me go here with a God that has always existed in both directions. That God has but one limitation. That God can not kill them self. Because, without that God, nothing would exist. But, nothing is something. And God is everything. God will never die. No matter how much one wants to not believe. Concepts never die. Yet, as we have seen, all concepts are achieved by mankind. Therefore, we are an achievement. And will always be here. We are a part of the creator. like it or not. And we are creators on a different wavelength. With limited ability to manipulate the frequencies we know of. The interesting thing about the Endless is that they encompass their opposite, so Dream is tacitly also Reality, while Death is also Life, and so on. This is never explicitly stated, but hints are dropped. For example, Death mentions that everyone knows her because she was present at the moment of their birth or creation. And what this means is that while the Endless are absolute, uttermost, highest, most ultimate large-scale concepts in all the multiverses, they also embody the most intensely _personal._ Each of the Endless have a personal relationship with every single thing in the multiverses. They _know_ you, personally and individually. They have a relationship to you, communicate with you personally, interact with you, walk with you, hold your hand. While the gods embody things, the Endless _are_ those things. It's what makes them such iconic and archetypal entities. The idea that Death (for example) knows you personally, follows your exploits, is interested in what you do, and loves you no matter what you do, is compelling and deeply moving, especially when you know that she was literally present and watching when you were born, and will be there to comfort you and take your hand as you draw your last breath. "Nobody's creepy from the inside, Hazel. Some of them are sad, and some of them are hurt, and some of them think they're the only real thing in the whole world, but they're not creepy." -- _Death of the Endless,_ from *The Time of Your Life*
@shotgun6X6 жыл бұрын
The Death example is debatable. Her siblings never explicitly call her Death unless prompted by mortals first. This is because we mortals don't have a word for what "Death" ACTUALLY is. She's not just, you know, death. She's... something else. Some other immutable concept.
@NoJusticeNoPeace6 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was saying. Death is the second-eldest after Destiny, which makes sense since she was there when the very first thing came into existence (though Destiny existed first to _cause_ that existence). But she also says that she will be the very last entity to exist, to "turn out the lights" as she puts it when the Universe itself dies. So she is both the beginning and the end of all things and will outlive even Destiny in the end. And yes, we as humans don't have a single term which encompasses both life and death.

It is explicitly stated by Destruction when found by Dream and Delirium.

nice descriptions but at least in the DC universe it's stated by Dream that the endless do not have total control over others (especially since that would make for some pretty boring stories). Humans have free will and the endless are no more than how sentient creatures visualize those concepts. As Morpheus puts it, "We endless are the servants of the living."
@dustwarewolf55326 жыл бұрын
I was just about to comment something similar to that.
@jaydoyle25966 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna be commenting here pretty aggressively. If I remember correctly, the endless follow very, very particular rules. Except for Death, who can do whatever she wants. Also, the Endless really truly are a perspective of their conceptual selves. So, that perspective can die. That just affects any manipulations that perspective had.
@Scarshadow6665 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about this too while watching the vid. In fact, there was even a side story (I think in Seasons of Mists) on two ghost kids becoming friends and leaving a boarding school, with one saying that hell isn't really a place and that it all has to do with perspective, while the other disagrees but says that the point is "you don't have to stay there forever". From what I've gathered from Sandman, and this is my personal interpretation, the Endless don't exist directly control or manipulate humanity (though characters like Desire wouldn't like to think of that), because humanity already has the power (and belief) to shape things like the Endless and the gods that start out in the dreaming. It's kinda like what Terry Pratchett's version of Death said at the end of Discworld's Hogfather. RIP Terry Pratchett (1948-2015)

It's because DC, and the creator of this video, fail to understand that these so called 'concepts' don't actually work. They only exist, cause we humans say they exist. Take Dream, the most contraversal point on this list. 'You can't create Reality, without Dream'... But you CAN. You see, you can't create a reality, with being that can 'dream' without Dreams. But you 100% can create a reality, that is a black void, with no life in it. And that reality, has no dreams. 'Dreams', are literally a chemical in the brain that gives fake visions, and not all creatures have dreams, and even for humans not all humans have dreams. It's also the issue with having each concept having an opposite. Example, Life and Death. He mentions even if everything is immortal, Death still exists, just people can't experience.. But if no one can experience Death in reality, how can it exist in that reality? It is a reality with only Life, not Death. Death only exists, cause we say it exists. Even in our own world, 'Death' isn't a concept that exists, cause nothing ever actually 'dies'. The atoms break down from the whole to transform into new forms, but those items don't just stop existing. They change form, they don't die. So at the very least, Death should be renamed to Change. Destiny as well, is one that doesn't make sense. The video states anything that is required to do something, that is Destiny. But that is A, too broad, and B, only effects life, not objects. In a reality that's a black void with no life, there is no Destiny. So it isn't an absolute. Even Change isn't an absolute. No, these things only exist, cause we humans stand up and say they exist, and base stories on those concepts instead of on other concepts instead, or creating our own concepts.

@dig8634 Жыл бұрын
@@vladudrea9747 Yeah, the word "Dream" is maybe misleading, but a good way to think about it is a story that no one has told yet. Nothing stops anyone from telling that story at any point in time, but we don't know it until someone finally has the idea to tell it. Even in a universe without any conscious beings, that story still "exists" as a conceptual thing. That is what Dream represents. All the things that could be imagined, all the things that are not real, and thus only exist in stories. Destiny is definitely a necessity, even if we believe quantum randomness exists, and so some things cannot be predicted ahead of time, there would still be only one outcome that ends up happening. Maybe it is impossible to know destiny, but something *will* happen. This is even more true if each time something could have gone differently, it does go differently in another universe, that just means that each timeline/branching universe has its own destiny, and the destiny of the entirity of the branching timelines is that everything that can happen will happen in at least one of them. And in an empty universe, the destiny for that entire universe is for nothing to happen. That's still a destiny. We can't know if a universe has to eventually die, I will have to disagree with you on that. We don't even know if this one will eventually die. It will experience "heat death", but that isn't technically an end to the universe, it just means complete energy equilibrium, so that nothing can happen anymore. It will be dead only in practicality, not in actuality. However, as with immortal creatures, death still exists, it will just be hypothetical. It will exist only within Dream. In a universe where nothing ever ends, you could still hypothesize the end of things. A universe that never ends can still be imagined ending. The concept is still necessary. Destruction is a bit harder to classify, because it is seemingly quite similar to Death. The ending of a thing. We could separate Death and Destruction based on whether something was "alive" to begin with, in which case I don't think Death should be the end of a universe, unless that universe has consciousness. If that is how we classify it, Destruction and Death work the same. In universes where nothing ever ends, Destruction and Death are concepts of Dream, but you can also have one and not the other outside of Dream. Things can never end, but things can stop being alive, or things can end, but everything that is alive will never die. We can also differentiate them based on the type of end. Whether it be a violent or a calm end. We generally don't apply that to the Death of conscious beings though. All living things die, whether it happens in an explosion or by old age. Still we fall to the same conclusion. They can still both be imagined in that universe, even if they don't apply to anything in actuality. They *could* apply, and so they are necessary. And lastly, Destruction could be an act of consciousness. Creation and Destruction could both be be thought of as acts of will and intent. Language is of course often vague and inaccurate, and so we often say that rivers "create" valleys, but this would be wrong under this interpretation. Death is the end of a thing, Destruction is the act of taking something apart. In this interpretation Destruction by necessity involves Death, but not vice versa. As always though, there exists no universe in which either can't be imagined. Desire, Despair and Delirium all work similarly, but are more directly tied to living beings regardless of how you look at it. This is also why Tyler started adding caveats to their existence. Of course, you can still imagine something that does experience those in any universe, but you'd probably find them only within Dream in a lot more universes than their older siblings. This is also probably why they are younger siblings. They only exit Dream once a universe has experienced enough time for life to develop and for that life to develop consciousness. They are lower down the rungs of necessity, and only become real later down the line. There might be many such concepts that exist, but are not part of the DC family, and indeed you find many different interpretations in other stories. There might even be concepts that don't yet exist, but will eventually exit Dream and become real, but that all along necessarily lived within Dream. I wonder if we'll even be able to wrap our mind around what that might be
@Starman9735 жыл бұрын
The only detail he left out is that Death actually greets each soul as it comes into the world as well. One time an infant that died of SIDS asked her, "Is that it?" because it remembered having just met her. Her response was, "This time it is." And the joy she finds in her work. where others have fashioned death into a sad avatar, DC's cheerful Death is a refreshing perspective. And there is this thing where she must spend one day every thousand years as a mortal to help appreciate their perspective. But I must say you covered the gist of it.

There was one comic where Death just took Dream around for a couple people that she had to collect and it's kinda fascinating to see how people react to death and more importantly how death reacts to people. Still, there are a couple of awesome storylines I can think of for Dream. Have to have a massive budget for CGI though. The most logical place to start the show would probably be where the comic started. With Dream being captured and imprisoned for decades. Which naturally causes terrible shit all over the world. @@mrdeadmemes I would say that no matter what happens, how bad things seem, however things play out, the world goes on. Wave functions ensure that everything will play out, predetermined or not. No matter what, IA was going to make this video; we were going to have our reactions no matter what. I would write this comment, whether or not it's reasonable. But he said it at the end, we don't know if we should exist, but we do, and our existence is unique, so let's make it a good experience (paraphrasing of course.) It's comforting, and wholesome that whether or not there's a god (conceptual or otherwise), we live our lives in the here and now, we can make our choices whether or not they matter. Things will be ok. We matter because we make our choices, we play out our lives, and we get to experience the things around us. Whether it's a good experience, a bad one, a long one, a short one, a billionaire putting on spandex to save lives, or a child laying in a field, feeling the sun on their face, the one thing that no one's experience is, is meaningless. To someone, somewhere, that existence has a meaning, even if only to themselves. So perhaps saying it's wholesome isn't going to be true to everyone. It's simply too subjective. But I'd rather live content that I can enjoy my existence, whether or not it's predetermined, than to spend that life concerned that I messed up my preset path. Things will play out how they will. Life will go on. You matter, because you make yourself matter, not because dream or destiny says that you do. I rambled a lot there, but there's no good way to put something like this. So I hope I shed some light on the scrambled eggs that are my thoughts.
@mrdeadmemes2 жыл бұрын
@@bobmasters9871 ok understandable but the video isn't saying that, it's saying it everything you do is predetermined. just direct it's not trying to leave it up to interpretation your point of view is completely understandable, nothing disagreed there, but the video doesn't imply that. what you're saying is "predetermined or not, it's important to make people happy and be a good person" while the video is saying "you have no free will, so you better be good or you have been predisposed to be a bad person and there's no choice you can make to change it" it's a slippery slope. you can justify anything with that. you can choose to do nothing because since you're doing it, there was no other option. you can commit murder, and think that since you did it, you were always going to do it and there's no way you could've stopped it from happening. the more you believe the idea that your choices are a result of math and not of your own free will, the more easily you can bring yourself to do things you know you shouldn't. there are thousands of different ways to phrase it. that you live in a simulation, that you're hallucinating the universe, or that you have no free will. these change nothing about your day to day life _other_ than giving you an excuse to act what you think is immorally. to believe this is to believe that whatever you do is not your fault. it's not philosophical, it's just a lack of self awareness. you are here in the now. what you do _is_ in your hands. when you make a typo, when you wait a second before making a decision, when you even take a breath, there are hundreds of thousands of choices you can make. to say that _somehow_ all of these functionally infinite concepts, likely uncountably times more than atoms in the universe were decided BY atoms in the universe has no logic behind it. in every millisecond, there are an incomprehensible amount of things you can do, think, say, or all at the same time. this happens hundreds of times a second for every person that has ever lived. the idea that there exists a way to predetermine all of that within finite space (if we are to take the big bang as the 'creation' of the universe, the most common theory atm) is impossible considering there is a 'smallest' unit (strings). do what you think is good for people. not because things are 'predetermined', do it because you want to be a good person, and you have the power to do so, and you DO have the power to do so.
@bobmasters98712 жыл бұрын
@@mrdeadmemes I think you may have misunderstood my point. We seem to be saying the same thing with different outcomes. If things are predetermined, then be the person that makes YOU happy, not spending your life trying to fit into something else, was what I was trying to get at. Good or bad doesn't really matter in that context, there just simply is. That's comforting to me. There are consequences to actions, and there should be, but dealing with those consequences won't change the final outcome, being an end to everything billions of years from now. Nothing we do matters in the long run, which ironically makes everything matter on a personal level. What he said in the video was along the lines of "whether or not things are planned out, your life is yours to live, so try and make it a good life." That line alone comes across as optimistic to me. That was all my point was about, but the overall video can be taken optimistically like I've chosen to do, or pessimistically, like it seems you have. And theres nothing wrong with that, I'm not trying to imply you're any worse off for taking it that way, it's your interpretation and it's just as valid as mine, I'm simply choosing to look at it in a brighter light. I do appreciate that we can both look at this in the depth that we can, because that's really the point either way, isn't it? To introspect? To use it to see things in a different light than you might otherwise?

Describing them as personifications of concepts themselves is probably more accurate than describing them as 'Gods' or as 'Beings'. They're not necessarily concepts, as they have names and personalities, but they represent much more than a singular being, making them personifications. Dream is not just the concept of 'dreams' but an interpretation of dreams that we can understand and process, one that is sentient and has a personality, a history, an opinion. Which is why Sandman is so great, it takes every concept that has to exist by necessity, and creates characters centered on those concepts, taking everything into account. Of course Death is just Death, she doesn't have to worry about being anything but. When you're the last being that will ever live, why take everything too seriously or too jokingly?

About the fact that the Endless control us, there is one principle of logic you may have overlooked: Newton's third law. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The Endless may control everything, but at the same time they are controlled by everything. In a chess game, a pawn is controlled by a player, but the player's strategies are controlled by the nature and position of the pawn.
@beemer91086 жыл бұрын
This isn't physics. Newton's third law isn't a principle of logic, it's a principle of gravity. And in a chess game the player controls the pawn, which is a factor in the other player's control over his pawn. The other player's control over his pawn as a result of the first pawn is then a factor in the next move made. In this case, neither pawn is controlling the player, but are merely factors, which can be completely ignored. Furthermore, it is not an element of control that the Endless possess, at least not the way I think of it. The Endless are abstract, they simply exist as a result of logic. In this case we are both responsible for each other's creation, as the question becomes: would the Endless still exist if we had never thought of them? It's a very, very hard, if not downright impossible, concept to grasp.

You can't powerscale the Endless. Words like "reality warper" and "omnipotent" and "Multiverse Buster" don't fully encapsulate the *immutable* nature of them. Within the panels and pages they can be weak enough that a lesser demon can kill them, or strong enough to overpower Lucifer Morningstar (they aren't but that's not important), it doesn't matter. What matters is that they are there, they are permanent, and they simply are. If a God is creating a Universe then they were there long before said God even thought to do so, representing the very possibility of said creation, or said God. Before the Presence found the DC megaverse, they were there. Before comics, or fiction itself was even possible, they were real as concepts in our very real world, ruling the lives of authors.
@baller73875 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree vehemently with your premise here. Several of these "aspects" of existence are unique to the human condition, and others could be eliminated entirely by an omnipotent being. Literally none of them are prerequisites of Creation nor do they represent the possibility of it; that is an utterly ridiculous statement. One does not need to dream, or die, or be delirious, or be fated, or have desire, or to despair, or to destroy, in order to create. Delirium, desire, despair, and dreaming are all consequences of complex consciousness, and are by no means inevitable. Death is perhaps one of the easiest and most predictably eliminated concepts for an entity with omnipotence, and destruction is as well. Fate is an abstract concept that was created by humans and may not even exist, or at least not in the sense that we think it does. As such, these "Endless" abstractions most certainly would not exist prior to a theoretical God's creation of the Universe, and it is absolutely ludicrous to suggest that they would be responsible for the genesis of said God in the first place.

@@shady8045 truth is a concept created by humans, and is in no way a prerequisite to creation. What even is truth in the context of creation? It means nothing because it's not applicable. Something isn't less "true" because it doesn't exist, or vice versa. trying to make truth relevant to creation is like saying a car is heavy because it goes fast: it doesn't make any sense.

@@baller7387 You must be a power scaler if you're this unable to understand abstract concepts outside of superpowers and ridiculously long numbers. The video already explains what you don't understand about The Endless but I'll explain some of it anyway. I don't even think you grasp the meaning of the names. No, The Endless are not human concepts in a universe full of other beings. They take the form of anything that perceives them. And yes, every being that would exist brings them into being. You can't create without desire or the ability to "dream"'. That's moronic. A "dream" is just another word for an idea. Death exists even if one being has life and gods die all the time anyway. "Destiny" is another way of saying "fate" or "that which will be". That's what I mean by not understanding the concept. It's like you're trying to figure out if time can punch harder than light. It's irreverent. Do Dream and Death exist as equal opposites to Reality and Life before, or after them? Maybe. How can you destroy Destiny without destroying the chronology of time? If a being is "sane" than it must be by some metric. Even gods despair in an imperfect universe. If you create something you destroy all other things that could have been in its place. See. It's a little more rich and complicated than figuring out which asshole can punch FTL.

Wait that means that.. destiny was destined to be destiny that creates destiny for other things? Edit: what if death died? Do another death take the life of that death? What if dream is just a dream, was another dream creating another dream what if dream dreamed of a dream where there were dreams of people who dreamt of dreams? Idk what i'm talking about

Tecnically to die you should be alive and thus the endless cannot die since theyare concepts and not beings. Destiny is not bound by destiny since he IS destiny. Dream cannot dream since he is dream and so he's at the same time everything not real and everything real, two faces of the same coin. Desire cannot desire and destruction cannot destruct itself since he would create himself while destroying himself, literal snake who bites his own tail (ouroboros).delirium cannot go insane since it is not a being. Despair does not despair, and so on. They are concepts on which everything takes basis, necessary principles. They are timeless. They are endless.

Removing one of them entirely is only illogical because they are necessary within the logic of our universe, but an omnipotent God that created everything in the first place could surely rewrite the universe in incomprehensible ways that would seem as arbitrary and senseless to us as our reality would to the inhabitants of the new one where everything is fundamentally different. Also: Just because I'd make the same choice every time doesn't mean I didn't make the choice. If you let me choose between pancakes or nails for breakfast 1000 times, I will NEVER choose to eat nails, and my choice will always be the same because I don't *want* to eat nails and it would be incredibly painful to do so.

About omnipotence, that why semantics is important. A definition is: "the ability to do whatever is logically possible", so doing the illogical would be, well, illogical and not even part of the definition, so it doesn't make sense to ask an omnipotent being to do the illogical. The other definition is: "the ability to do whatever, even the illogical", so let's say, a being like this could create a rock so heavy that he couldn't lift it, and he would still lift it, because he can do the illogical.

"Try to think of a Villain who has no desire?" I don't know if it quite counts, but the closest example I can think of (admittedly from second-hand knowledge) is Galactus. For him, the destruction of worlds is merely a duty he does. Edit: Nevermind, I watched your video on him, and even *he* has desire. Specifically, the desire to survive and, when the universe dies, to rebirth it.
@haku8135 Жыл бұрын
Galactus isn't a villain anyway. Even if he had no desire to survive, he would still have a Destiny. The Beyonders, if nothing else, proves he most certainly can die too. And boy does he cause destruction!

If only the Endless were less edgy and more cool... But on a serious note thanks for the video, they're always great, especially the more existential ones imo.
@Codeninja6767 жыл бұрын
Edgy? if it's about their design that's just something left to the artists to decided since they are technically formless since they are able to shapeshift into since every being sees them in a different way depending on their values,mentality,spirituality,intelligence,etc.If you wanted you could draw your own version of them in your mind the forms they take in the comics is more of them taking their preferred forms to show us the readers but it's not their true form.
@jerekheadrick33797 жыл бұрын
Have you ever read a Sandman comic? I'ma guess probably not.
@themk49827 жыл бұрын
Brian Rodriguez Yeah I agree about the design, in fact I've always like dogs idea of gods appearing as one would believe them to look. But just from what I've read/heard other than destiny they all seems very human. Just in the way they behave and have relationships they all act a lot like we would, which for concepts that as he said are literally up above an omnipotent person by principle in the DC universe they just seem kinda underwhelming. Anyway it was just a little jab, I didn't mean to say the characters were all terrible.
@jerekheadrick33797 жыл бұрын
Actually, I think it's pretty fascinating to see these concepts be so... Human. Neil Gaiman is a fantastic writer and while the first comics are very dark and can be pretty disturbing at times I think they're all worth a read. It's also an interesting juxtaposition that the most powerful "people" act fairly regular while a lot of other DC characters feel like gods and ideals.
