Grammy award winning singer, Lizzo, has found herself in hot water. In a recently, filed lawsuit, three of her former dancers accused her, her company Big Grrrl, Big Touring Inc, and the captain of her dance team, Shirlene Quigley, of "exposing them to an overtly hostile and toxic work environment."

She always goes overboard trying to convince us how confident she is. She pretends not to care about what people think but I think deep down she does care. Big women in Jamaica are very confident and they don’t go out of their way to prove it. May be a cultural thing, but it always struck me as odd how she would act.

I see and know many big women here in the US who are confident and do the same. They neither feel the need to talk about their fatness all the time nor do they constantly brag about how confident they are. I find those like Lizzo who do this fairly sus, and not just for fatness. I'm fat myself and not particularly confident about my looks but it's also very low in importance for me as I'm very much a homebody and I no longer do any work that involves my looks.

Well to be fair Lizzo is a PLUS sized BLACK woman whom the majority of republicans despise and hate. And we all know who these gossip magazines and apps are run by (even KZbin). The truth of the matter is that when it comes to black women and controversy in the media. They never really get the same treatment as there white counterparts. Instead, there stories are more sensationalized and turns into a large agenda fairly quick. While Lizzo is wrong for what she did and deserves to be punished let’s not act like we don’t know what else is going on behind the scenes. Edit: Also..every now and then a white FEMALE artist will be under scrutiny but those cases are very rare and they come out looking like wounded princess in the end. Well, everyone except Amy Winehouse who some people still call a crackhead till this day despite the fact that she was off drugs for the last three years for her life and off alcohol for about a month-ish

I hate it when people are overtly and unabashedly sexual in contexts where they KNOW there’s someone present who is uncomfortable with their behaviour. There’s no need for it and it’s rude af. Idk anything about this woman, except that she’s a fat positive icon. But from watching this video, she seems like she has issues with boundaries and has no filter, both of these are incredibly annoying in a person.

Not everybody want to see her big bare ass on a basket ball game. It was disrespectul and disqusting. If it was an ordinary woman exhibiting herself that way, she would be arrested. She has No respect for boundaries, and shows no accountibility. Her attetion seeking and 'I don't care what people think' demeanour while she does something absolutely inapropriate is actually very dangerous. This incident fits well to the sexual harassment accusations.

I can't stand it either. It's truly unnecessary. I will never understand anyone's need to show every part of their body to strangers and in public no less. I really don't believe freely having sex with anyone at any time is truly gratifying. There's nothing sacred anymore.

I think there's shades of gray to this and I'm unsure how far this lawsuit will go. I've been in media communication law before, so I tend to see these things from both the personal and the law side of it. Lizzo is certainly not who she claims to be in her public image. She's disrespected boundaries both personally and professionally, and she's employed leaders on her team that are just as disrespectful and controlling while pushing their own beliefs (the dance team captain). It's inappropriate behavior that does have merit in a lawsuit. However, for the rest of the lawsuit's claims, it seems to go based off of inferred feelings and suspicions about what they thought Lizzo was feeling or thinking. The victims don't make for good witnesses in interviews with the press and they come off as young and naive to the industry. There's a lot of talk about validating feelings and not enough talk about specific scenarios that took place in concrete detail. Their lawyers should be speaking for them and allowing them only to answer questions with prepared statements unlike the TMZ interview flub. Civil torts have a much lower burden of proof, so good luck to them. At the very least this shows how fake some celebrities are.

I was thinking the exact same think. Her complaints about being told she wasn't doing well? It's a job & there are expectations. Then she *thinks* they're referring to her weight because they're asking if she's OK and she knows she's gained weight (which she herself is likely uncomfortable & paranoid about, so may very well be projecting. She thinks it's wrong to be fired for recording a pericardial employee meeting? It's pretty standard that celebrities don't want private moments unknowingly recorded- and for very obvious reasons). It's not at all surprising a person would be fired for that. Also, the excuse fpr tecording was so weak & seemed like an obvious lie to me. They seem like whiny Gen Z youngins with zero real world experience. Ijs

Lizzo has spent so long building this thick skin and confidence against all the horrible negativity she receives bc of her weight, race, and gender, but unfortunately, it seems at times it develops into arrogance and defiance. To the point where ANY criticism she receives, she automatically takes it as an attack on her character and who she is. You can see that by her comment about her sexuality in her statement. No one’s shaming her for being freaky. Do you boo. Waive your freak flag. That’s NOT what these girls are accusing her of. They are essentially accusing her of not having a safe and supportive work environment for them. For not protecting these girls, and creating a safe space for the women she employed to her company, which contradicts everything she says she stands for. Despite her best efforts it’s clear she’s still deeply insecure about who she is. She needs “control” over everyone (eyes and ears). She expects everyone to have the same sexual appetite/openness as her, and if they don’t that means they must be “shaming” her, and she acts petty and vindictive off the cuff. I remember her Postmates incident a few years ago, that was dirty how she treated that driver, especially when it came out that she never stole her food. This is all EGO and INSECURITY that she needs to check quick. Also, all of this reeks of toxic Girl Boss behavior that has set the feminist movement back years. This “I’m a Bad B*tch” attitude that you must act like toxic men in order to run your business successfully as a women. You must be definant and “Strong” at all times against all criticism is childish and arrogant. Takes her down a few pegs in my eyes. Now, I see a sad, insecure individual who doesn’t really know what true confidence looks like yet. All of the confidence she projects is just for show, because true confidence never needs to belittle, berate, or bully anyone. True confidence admits when you’re wrong and seeks to make it right. I hope she finds that true meaning, and treats people with respect moving forward. It’s clear she’s still got some learning to do, and I think as fans we need to be aware of this moving forward.

It was almost like watching a little kid say shocking things or things they knew they shouldn't and then look around like haha that's funny right? It's funny? I'm funny. While I like her music and message to love yourself I didn't care for the deep involvement in the health at every size community. Yes, love who you are now, dress how you want, demand to be treated like a person, don't dampen yourself for the comfort of others. However, being morbidly obese is not healthy. It causes problems with your organs especially your heart which is kind of one you can't live without and your joints, especially your knees, hips, ankles, and feet. It makes doing simple things so much more difficult and painful and her endorsement of health at every size is problematic in my view.

While I find Lizzo’s songs catchy and decent, I have to admit I find people who constantly parade that they're nice are the complete opposite of that as they have a lot more to hide. There was a KZbinr that I admired her content and unsubscribed to after finding out that she's not a nice person, releasing someone’s suicide note in her apology video, and harassing a pregnant woman while she was bedridden. I also have another KZbinr who I'm very conflicted about unsubscribing to and unfollowing her Instagram as she makes valid points on racism in children’s media but she’s a massive hypocrite and narcissistic as she talks about how toxic fandom is but allows her fans to attack people who don't agree with her. She also turns off comments when her fans don't agree with her and call her out on her ridiculous claims. One example was that she believes that white men are bad at fashion after criticizing the clothing designs for a TV show that she watches I watched the first season before tuning out and that gay people and people of color should take charge. I'm sorry if you're hiring someone based on their race and sexuality instead of their credentials, that says a lot about you as a person.

The KZbinr who I'm conflicted about always claims that everything in media has racism, homophobia, and misogyny. While she's right to some extent, not everything is. She dealt with a lot of trauma such as being bullied in middle and high school, sexual assault, and other things that I empathize with as no one deserves to experience those things, but that doesn't excuse her horrible actions as she despises men(white and black), straight people(I hate the word cishet in general), and conventionally attractive women because they remind her of the people who bullied her in high school. Girl, conventionally attractive women can't control how they're born and some attractive women are cruel, but many are kind. People who constantly go after attractive people tend to be the most miserable. She always claims that she doesn't hate everything but she always bashes men or has her videos titled “the ism/ phobia of insert name of show/movie”. While I'm happy for the success she has, she needs to learn to stop bashing attractive people and allowing her fanbase to go after people who don't agree with her, take constructive criticism, and do proper research in her videos as she admits on some occasions that she doesn't watch the movie or show to get a better understanding of the context of the movie or show she's discussing.

I think the s*xual aspect is the most serious. The hostile work environment, maybe. The weight concern is not going to happen, it’s going to just be argued that weight is perhaps the most important factor in a stage dancer, and if you hire someone I’m sure there’s a reasonable stipulation in the contract that they can’t dramatically change their appearance.

The saddest part is like many bullied victimized people, this woman is reproducing a similar behavior. The alarming thing about it is she seems unaware of how hurtful she was, because she is not victimizing her dancer up front like she was. It’s insidious and she has to acknowledge it, or she is going to keep doing it while hiding behind the wall of denial: “I have integrity, I will never verbally/ directly shame a woman on her body”. Well Lizzo, you are doing everything else to make her feel as horrible as possible.

props to you for including the tweet story. a lot of people forgot about it, Mina went through so much for simply standing her ground and asking for a credit, rightfully so. the optics of Lizzo writing a song with 2 white men, stealing a tweet from a black british woman... allegedly Lizzo only gave Mina the credit as she planned to trademark that line to use on merch and probably that was done to avoid a lawsuit. in general it's a very interesting case regarding IP and memes. I’m definitely interested in seeing how this all plays out, there was one controversy you didn’t mention which left the biggest impression on me personally, the incident with the door dash delivery woman. Yes that’s true, I unfortunately had to cut that out which I originally included in the script because I try to keep episodes under 1 hour. But you are absolutely correct. Lizzo blasted the women on social media. Put her personal information online after accusing her of stealing her food. All to find out, Lizzo was wrong. The employee did not do what Lizzo accused her of.

Honestly there's no case here. A lot of assumptions about what Lizzo thinks and nothing of what she actually said. At the 42:00 min mark Ms. Davis makes an assumption based on nothing. Weight was never mentioned. SHE had an issue with anxiety and binge eating but they didn't know that. She only speaks on how SHE felt they were acting. I'm not buying it. Plus if it was stated that attending these clubs was NOT mandatory why agree to go? I'm pretty sure Lizzo was already going to these places and doing these things and they knew. They just wanted to be in her good graces. You also don't go and record meetings without a person's consent. She did that for her personal evidence. And for the record I'm not defending Lizzo but I also don't fully believe these women.

I don't really like how she explained coming up with "I love myself." It sounded more like "how can I market this" than "this is a message I want to share. ". The way she "humble" brags about starting the self-love movement rubs me wrong too. I'd be more concerned with using that moment in my platform to making sure I instilled the message of loving yourself and urge everyone to help others realise that too, than just bragging about starting it...

This has been very informative and gone beyond the headlines. To me, the weight discrimination claim is the most unclear - it’s not that I think the victim is lying, but it sounds like she’s inferring a lot and people can often read something into a situation that isn’t there, especially when insecurity is present. It’s possible she was fired for a totally different reason. That being said, the sexual thing I can see. I can see Lizzo wanting to be open/sex positive, but part of that positivity is also reserving the right to be non sexual or private about your sexuality. It’s not cool, and she seems to have confused her employees for friends. Also why is someone allowed to proselytise on set? I hope she takes this as a learning experience, I doubt she meant badly but it’s not ok. Also, for the secret recording thing - come on, you cannot secretly record people without their consent. Lizzo shouldn’t have assaulted her, but even if you have a good reason to record, you should ask permission first and I would totally fire someone over that. Finally, as much as Lizzo sounds like a diva, arrogant and unprofessional, so do many many performers - and while it’s wrong for all of them to do so, it’s a double standard that Lizzo is getting so much flack for it immediately

Even if it’s legal to do one party consent for recording, in my view it’s always unethical unless you are secretly recording evidence of abuse - and she wasn’t doing that, she was recording a rehearsal. It is certainly something I would fire someone over, recording me at my workplace without my consent. Once again though, Lizzo mixing personal and professional business especially when it comes to sexually charged environments is not okay and I fully support the victims in that sense. I just feel that the case in its entirety is a bit messy and it’s not clear cut for all of the claims

I had never heard of Lizzo, but was interested in the story, the “rise and fall.” So frustrating and saddening to watch someone destroyed by their own hubris. What stood out to me was when one of the former dancers said that she and other dancers were told that they were lucky to be eating any “crumbs” they could get from Lizzo.. No! These are hard-working, talented young performers who WANT and need to work and to be their best and ought to be treated accordingly. Thanks again Bee for another great documentary.

And then jump to 55:20 where MS. DAVIS is gushing over working with Lizzo and trying to get on season 2 of the show. Lizzo sounds like a bitch, but most of the suit is just meant to defame her and keep the story in the headlines. The sexual harassment stuff will stick, but the body shaming was literally this woman projecting her own insecurities and assuming that it was about her weight. She said they asked her why she wasn't the person she was when she auditioned and was chosen for the show. She was going through depression and anxiety at the time, so why would she expect them to not notice a difference? Throwing "fat-shaming" in there was just to make people hate Lizzo more than they already do.

I’m sorry, but if any of these women win I will be shocked. If you really listen to what they are saying and put them in context of being a professional backup dancer on a professional world tour, there are several instances of them saying that they were forced into situations that they simply could have gotten themselves out of or are genuinely part of being a dancer. Also, as this is a lot of their first experiences as a dancer and especially at this level they have no idea that they actually are incredibly lucky to be in that position with so little experience. They seem to take that as if it’s not true? They may have actually tried to be genuinely interested in trying to be helpful with her diagnosis of binge eating disorder which they knew about and so did she because of the original evaluation, instead she takes this as an invasion of privacy and toxic. This may have actually been an incredibly open and honest, possibly helpful, but high stress and hard work environment and these women ended up fired. They aren’t happy about it for various reasons that will likely come out and Lizzo’s career will still be tarnished beyond repair. Especially considering that her contemporaries such as, Beyoncé, have already disavowed her without proof or conversation.

The dancers were not treated well in certain instances and things were beyond unprofessional at times. This is a work-related, employment discrimination case, not a criminal case of sexual assault, so please take it down a notch. Jail time, as some suggested below, is ridiculous. The "pile on" at such an early stage is disturbing and speaks more to the posters' delicate sensibilities and performative outrage. Lizzo can be immature and imperfect. She's in her early thirties and the face/voice/talent behind a truly inspirational message-- which should NOT be negated due to a lawsuit. Artists get sued often and the facts will come out. This is not nursery school or therapy. All dancers, at all times, do not receive "gold stars" nor are ALL guaranteed a lifetime job. Artists say lots of crazy sh*T in the heat of the moment. One's feelings being hurt, does not constitute a hostile work environment. Legally, there is a lot to prove here. Give it time.

Very valid, logical points you made. I definitely believe that this needs to play out and all sides should be heard before forming concrete opinions. Sit back and let it all unfold, is my take. Thanks for weighing in! Again, valid points.

lol this is so so ridiculous… the most legit complaint i would say happened is Lizzo crossing/having blurred lines between her dancers as a boss vs . a friend . everything else sounds so dramatized and paranoid.. it’s like they over dramatized evry event to fit evry form of discrimination there is, and are confusing their own (normal) anxieties of being fired , being at a strip club, getting fatter. and not being able to say no with harassment, discrimination, and “toxicity “ .like they literally say they were uncomfortable posing naked and were allowed to pose in nude clothes instead .. wow terrible. they are really complaining that if Lizzo didn’t like the way u danced then u were fired.. yaaa duhhhh..and Lizzo is right .. it doesn’t matter if she drank before her performance .. she doesn’t want her dancers drinking , that’s pretty normal .. and the fact she said l she was worried about her is bad/fat shaming? come on ppl.. are we really believing this ? ..i truly think they are truly biased themselves as Lizzo was acting like any other normal boss and THEY expected special treatment bc they wer “like Lizzo” (fat and black) , and prob thought they could get away with a lot, and they didn’t. that’s it

Unpopular opinion, this is almost a nothing burger. And especially the complaint of Ariana in the show... "I was supposed to do something I didn't want, but at the same time I really wanted the position, so... It was frustrating." WELCOME TO THE WORLD! You make choices, if you don't feel ok, this job is not for you... 🤷🤷 The most I could say is Lizzo might not be the dream boss...

I agree with the commenter who said she confused her employees with friends I believe it’s possible she attempted to create a “FREE SPEECH” environment but it’s a time and place and these women had bills to pay 💰 they found a way to do that unfortunately they may never find another professional job because no big artist wants this type of issue.

In court, I don't think this will hold up. Because they should also see what's in their contract along with the alleged lizzo trying trying strike her is subjective

Normally accusations like this break and its just a part of the music/reality tv industry (I mean, look at Joseline's Cabaret, hew boy)...but this one hit me hard! her music was such a strong extension of her personality and she pushed such uplifting messages. On another note, I wonder if they'll publicize the court proceedings! 👀

Ariana is saying a lot of "I believe" and "it felt like". After watching I don't really see Lizzo as a bad person just crude...which isn't illegal. This lawsuit isn't making sense so far, it seems like they were upset that they got let go

lizzo hired a bunch of big dancers then was surprised that some of them couldn’t keep up. It’s a physically demanding job, it’s delusional to think weight wouldn’t affect that. Some of these dancers come from the same healthy at any size pride that lizzo does and they are eating themselves. That’s what happens when you value victimhood.

What turned me off from Lizzie was her hypersexual kinda cringey posts. It made me uncomfortable and I usually love when women aren’t shy to express themselves sexually. But she forced it it seemed. Idk the allegations align to her being an inappropriate boss, sorry

You put these videos together better than anybody on YT. They're incredible to watch. The thing with Lizzo is that she twisted being an artist with being in a position of authority and jumped back & forth between the two. She wasn't equipped to "manage" the business side and should have had a strong hand to take the reigns. She got caught up by her bigness in the show. I blame her youth & her record label for sending her out w/o a chaperone. She'll recover.

Your work has a very unique quality. I always am left with the "human-ness" ( I think I just made a new word) of each production. At my older age this kind of drama is just more drama, and it's always the same piece, just with different backdrops. But I leave thinking of how we learn about life through painful experiences, how surprised we can be to discover how fragile trust can be. We even have to learn to trust our own inner voice, our own wisdom! Crazy. And no matter how long we live the lessons never stop, and no one can avoid going through it. But you are the only KZbinr who can make me think, hmm, it's gossipy, mud slinging, more senseless drama, but BeeThee will make it a thought provoking human interest piece. Thanks for sharing your gift!

Zero shocked about Lizzo's Real personality Slip which is now going public. The tears every week, the obscene outfit at the game, the constant nudes on IG, the constant tooting her own horn on camara, the OVEREMBELLISHING of what she says concerning herself, concerning her life, and the interviews are SAD because it shows she loves to hear herself talk and is very insecure. All of it was begging for attention. She needs God and inner healing to change the person from the inside out.

Another well made video, Be. I knew Lizzo played flute but didn't fully process that she was a Band Kid. Hearing about the 8 hour practices and intimidation and bullying from her dancers, I see a possible connection from my own brush with this world. There is a power-conscious suffercore grindset in marching band from the militarism of drum corps that is perfectly suited to bullies who want to yell a lot in the name of excellence and art. Power to her victims for speaking their truth.

That Lakers incident was also really disrespectful to the athletes imho, deflecting a lot of attention from their actual game and probably not very helpful for them generally. I definitely believe the dancers anf the responses from people esp that insane delusional Quigley response (where she sounds like shes been indoctrinated into a religious cult -like to know which church she goes to!!)just backs up what they're saying. The fact that others have confirmed the hostile work environment and no one has come forward to deny it also says a lot. Whether they can win in the courts is another thing unfortunately.
