@@aa-fi9ks The problem with this two-handed technique pertains to the “touch rule” in chess. When you touch a piece, you have to complete a legal move with it. When you use one hand, the touch rule is easy to enforce, but if you use both hands, then it can be uncertain which piece (the king or rook) you touched first, and therefore uncertain which move you intend to make. The correct (unambiguous) way to castle is to touch the king with one hand and move it two squares left or right (to whichever side you intend to castle). Once you have done this, it is perfectly clear that you intend to castle because there is no other way to legally move the king two squares. You must then finish the castling move by placing the rook on the square opposite the king. So in a sense, you can use both hands, but only one hand at a time, especially if it's a fast game. And to your information, Hikaru also touched pieces without moving them and abused opponent's time. Once Magnus himselft did that versus Aronian and the game stopped immediately.

Personally I love this bit of gamesmanship, as they do the bare minimum to make it look like half a game instead of shaking hands at the start of the match and just taking half a point ;). Fischer hated it, but there's no way to "force" players to try for more if you don't need to. Even if you reward victories more, I don't think it will help much. Then you play conservatively with black and let white get over aggressive (as such, players would not become more aggressive at the top level). The game of chess is just very drawish to begin with in classical time format. This is why Fischer proposed 960 in the first place.

at least Hik gives Ian credit. I'm so sick of hearing ppl keep saying that Ian keeps getting lucky. You know what, maybe those who say that should be the champion of whining. Item should tell them that he keeps getting "lucky" because they can't find the win at the board in enough time only post game anal with no time pressure, infinite amount of time. These are the Champions of Missed Wins. Maybe they should take up correspondence chess where they have all day to find the correct move + plus move the pieces around the board.

hikaru put it this way: Winning wasn't worth it, because Nepo would end up going for draws in every single match, because thats all he needs to secure 1st in candidates. Hikaru wasn't comfortable with the Sicilian because he got destroyed in a game he played with it, + he knew that nepo had a lot of preparation with it because of the game against magnus. Losing would virtually knock hikaru out of the running for 2nd because he said he has to play with black against ding liren, so drawing was the best option for him.
