Unfortunately, the omega 3 found in flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp, and walnuts is ALA. The main problem with ALA is that to have the good effects attributed to omega 3s, it must be converted by a limited supply of enzymes into EPA and DHA. As a result, only a small fraction of it has omega-3's effects, say 10%-15%, maybe less. The remaining 85%-90% gets burned up as energy or metabolized in other ways. So in terms of omega-3 "power," a tablespoon of flaxseed oil is worth about 700 milligrams (mg) of EPA and DHA instead of the 7 grams listed on the label might imply. It also contains omega 6, which might throw you off balance if you’re looking for a good omega 3 : omega 6 ratio. If you're in need of omega 3s but are concerned about mercury, salmon, pollock, and catfish are all low in mercury, and canned light tuna tends to be lower in mercury than albacore ("white") tuna. There are also great EPA and DHA supplements sourced from algae which are of course vegan friendly.

Very informative and powerful information as always. My girlfriend has been having some major pain in the arm after working out and her personal trainer recommended bee venom acupuncture(we live in Korea). The doctor we saw was very informative and explained everything to her regarding the body (it reminded me of you since you're more on the side of educating your patients/audience), including how the venom causes a reaction to the immune system thus I guess increasing blood flow etc... He gave a very small and diluted dosage and although she got a normal reaction (just like a bee sting), after about 20 mins. The pain was pretty much gone, he also recommended perilla oil as a high source of omega 3. Just thought I'd share this and maybe something to look into. The ratio for grass fed beef varies from 3:1 to 5:1 of omega 6 to omega 3. I know it’s not as bad as chicken by a big factor, but it puts grass fed beef up there with olive oil and a portion of beef is a lot bigger than a portion of olive oil on a salad. Why did you miss, pinto beans, mung beans, red kidney beans, navy beans, Broad beans (fresh frozen or canned) which all have less than omega 6 than omega 3 ? Pro meat KZbinrs being selective rather than scientific, yet again…..

reality is they're not making these videos to improve health, they're making them to push an agenda. The meat industry dwarfs the vegan alternative industry, and as more people switch to veganism for environmental, health or ethical reasons we're seeing more and more pushback with questionable scientific backing. It's quite clearly funded by the meat industry, in much of the world animal agriculture lobby groups have pushed governments into treating vegan alternatives with less favour than animal products

@joantendler65182 жыл бұрын
@@Felicia594 Eating fish is the way to get DHA, but a slightly higher amount of arachidonic acid to DHA, which I've read should be 4 to 1, is also very important for your diet. The omega 6 fat to avoid is linoleic acid, which doesn't turn into arachidonic acid in humans in any appreciable amount, but just oxidizes into free radicals, harming the body.
@BiggieCheese452 жыл бұрын
You also need to talk about the Prostaglandins E1, E2, E3 and their role in healing the body. E1 and E2 come from Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) and E3 comes from Alpha Linolenic Acid (Omega 3). E1 and E3 are Anti-inflammation and E2 is Pro-inflammation. This balance is necessary for the body to properly heal areas that are inflamed and then be called off when the job is finished.

Hemp seed oil contains the ratio of 3:1 omega 6 to omega 3. This is considered a near perfect ratio, but of course, you would also be consuming additional omega 6 from other sources. However, hemp seed oil also contains a significant amount of GLA omega 6 and vitamin E, which may counter the pro-inflammatory effects of too much linoleic acid.

Yes! I believe it does. Sorry for the long comment. I took 6 capsules a day & started to get better. Within 6 weeks I’d lost 10 kg & gone off meds, including antidepressants, thyroxine, asthma puffer, high blood pressure, pain & sleep meds. I saw a video on adrenal fatigue caused by delayed food sensitivities. It sounded a lot like “my” fibromyalgia. It said the diet for that was 30 ml’s of cold pressed hemp seed oil for 6 weeks to reduce inflammation. I experimented with different amounts of oil & different foods, then started looking on google. Grain affects memory. It causes “brain fog”. Grain, Dairy and Genetically Modified food causes inflammation. Inflammation causes disease. Possibly all disease. Raw cannabis seed;ALA and plant; THCa reduce inflammation immediately. (Too much plant can be toxic but not fatal. 6 grams gave me a headache) I also used the dictionary. I found that most if not all words have more than one meaning. Grain & cane come from a grass plant. Cannabis is known as grass. We have cannabinoid receptors in our brains. I found these “fast’s” *TAKE 40 ML’s COLD PRESSED HEMP SEED OIL FOR 40 DAYS. (You don’t need to fast. You won’t be able to. Continue taking it even if you feel unwell. It will pass. You will get hungry. He (She) was. After that; *EAT 6 to 10 GRAMS OF RAW CANNABIS AND DRINK RED WINE MIXED WITH WATER. IN 1 DAY. Alcohol increases the affects of herbs and vice versa. Drink red wine for the sake of the stomach. Do not get drunk for that’s debauchery. *IT ALSO WORKS(walks) ON just WATER. *SLEEP AND RISE (wake up, understand, see) AFTER 3 DAYS. *WASH YOUR FACE AND ANOINT YOUR HEAD. (I put it on my temples & my headache was gone within 5 minutes. Put it in before you get headache. ) (After a couple of weeks I had what felt like hart palpations. A side effect listed on my meds. After 8 + years my blood test said my thyroid level was too high & my medication was reduced. When it happened again, I stopped taking them. 4 years ago. I thought 12 + years of antidepressants we actually making me cranky, I went cold turkey. Don’t do that. It’s brutal. Reduce instead. Hemp thins the blood, don’t take blood thinners.) Take before photos. You will look different. The recipe for anointing oil didn’t work very well. But this recipe does. These ingredients are all anti inflammatory, work well for for pain & healing. Powder, 3 gm Raw Cannabis (Fresh works best. I only had dried.) 3 gm Ceylon Cinnamon 6 gm Cassia Senna 6 gm Myrrh Stir in 90 ml’s Red Wine Let soak for an hour or so until it congeals a bit. “make it like mud” Use a stick mixer & blend in 90 ml’s of cold pressed hemp seed oil. Fresh works best. Store in the freezer. A different kind of fast; *PUT NOTHING IN YOUR BODY FOR 2 DAYS. You must be empty or it won’t work properly. It takes approximately 2 days for food to pass through the body. *EAT 6 TO 10 GRAMS OF RAW CANNABIS AND DRINK RED WINE MUXED WITH WATER OR JUST WATER IN 1 DAY (or half a day) *SLEEP AND RISE AFTER 3 *USE ANOINTING OIL. The proof is in doing.

The "amounts" of what is consumed matters most but this video left that out.. For example you might choose between consuming 5 grams of some seed oil as dressing in your salad (70:1) or to eat 150 grams of some grains (20:1)... Just based on the number you would pick the grains BUT in reality in this example alone seed oil was the healthier choice because 5 gr x 70 causes 350 units of imbalance... whereas 150 gr x 20 would cause 3000 units of imbalance... Long story short: we must always consider the amounts together with the ratios if we are going to make correct decisions. And 1:1 is not optimal either. The goal should be a ratio between 1:4 to 1:6, again: considered WITH the amounts that you are going to consume!

Most of us really need to up our omega-3 intake and decrease our omega-6 intake. Ideally, the ratio should be closer to 1 to 1. That will help us to stay healthier. Omega 6s are found in things like poultry, nuts, vegetable oils, grains, canola oil, soybean oil, and more. So you will want to eat less of those, and more of the food sources of DHA, EPA, and ALA. Thanks Dr. Berg. You mentioned some time that the ratio in commerial eggs is 29:1, and in another video that you eat for eggs a day. I assume you consume the organic or pasture eggs. If I consume the commercial eggs, how many eggs should I consume then? Thanks!

Thank you for your informative videos. I have a question related to a vid you did on gelatin recently. In addition to the gelatin benefits you discussed in that video, does gelatin have muscle building benefits as well? Thank you in advance.

I have been working with intestinal issues for 2 years. Tests showed leaky gut and an imbalance of bad/good bacteria although not specfically sibo. One thing I've noted is shitty potato chips wreck me. Like sour cream and onion or bbq, stuff like that. I can tolerate organic salt potato chips though. Very interesting vid.

Dr. Berry says not to over obsess about doing keto or carnivore. Buy the best quality your budget will allow. You'll still be way ahead of any standard garbage diet!

My smoothie alone has a 5 to 1 ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6, so I'm wondering if that's bad. Also they are saying Oleic oils are lower in omega 6.

Hi Dr Berg, the omega 6 to 3 ratio of rapeseed oil as indicated in Wikipedia is 2.:1. So is it ok to consume this oil?
@ianstuart56602 жыл бұрын
I believe Dr. Berg would say no to rapeseed which is closely related to canola. I had been fooled over the years about canola because of the favorable omega 3 ratio. However have now realized that because of the heat used and heavy processes it is to be avoided. Dr. Sten Eckberg says if you can find cold expelled pressed canola it would be OK to use occasionally. Would love to know if Dr. Berg would agree?
