Renovating angry military man's house. 🙃
Welcome to the most bland build in all of Strangetown. It's so boring, it's not even strange, it's just sad. 😭
The Grunt family is a military family from The Sims 2, they reside at 51 Road to Nowhere and their home is a refurbished barracks building with nothing but a watchtower and bootcamp course in the yard. They needed my help fixing this place, giving them something more to do!
General Buzz Grunt is a dude with a nasty temper who is obsessed with power and preserving his fragile ego. He's projecting onto his son Tank Grunt, who is willing to do anything to please his dad. Meanwhile Ripp Grunt is just vibing! :D And that's it!... oh, there's also Buck Grunt but nobody ever remembers that he exists soooo :x Poor kid 😭😭😭 I'll try to give him a hopeful future when we play with this family.
I hope you liked this Strangetown lot makeover! This video is part of my big Sims 2 Lot Renovation project where I intend to remake all of the Maxis-made houses and give them my own twist.

Ok, first of all the house looks sooooo good and the outside seems so alive but not necessarily decorated to look "perfect". It is a bit overgrown which is what it should be. You mentioned you might want to live stream to interact with the community, but that you're not a very talkative person. Have you considered making a discord? That way you can interact with people, but you can just write. ~Also guys not having decoration and living in empty rooms. Before I moved in with my bf, that man only owned a desk, a PC, and a bed haha. And lastly, I would LOVE to see what you do with your custom hoods! I'm following some content creators who to the Build a City Challenge in Sims 2 (and I've attempted it myself) so it would be cool to see what your custom hoods and sims look like :)

Thank youuu I'm glad you like the reno! Idk abt a discord, I'm not too familiar with the platform. Plus, I've got lots of irl responsibilities so I don't think I can properly nurture a server if I can't be present often enough. Anyhoo, I'll probably show my personal hood sometime in the future! :) But it's story driven, not a BACC because I don't like rigid rules in my gameplay, it kinda sucks the fun out of the game for me. 🙃

@@bibipixels Haha I completely get that, I usually tend to not stick to the rules of the BACC too much, I just see them as guidelines. Discord is used by a lot of people playing games and just like in livestreaming you can assign mods to do all the "work" for you and mute them or kick them out if you'd ever consider it ^_^

Aww, Buck's role in the family breaks my heart. His room is super cute - love the animals. He's description mentions that he wants to be a pet stylist to the stars! Aww, how cute! I bet he was really close to his mum - Ripp too now I think about it. I mean, both Lyla and Ripp were/are Romance sims. Here's what I did. Tank Grunt peruses his true dream in the dance career as a ballet dancer after escaping his demanding dad [Sims 2 PSP reference] He also ends up with Melody Tinker from Bluewater Village. She was also struggling with parents that didn't truly understand her. Ripp Grunt ended up with Gvaudoin Tricou [resurrected], and Ripp helped Gvaudion break free from the expectations of her family. [Long story short, Gvaudion was supposed to take over her family business and she rebelled]. The two of them are happily free spirits doing their own thing. As for Buck, he is training under Tara Kat in the pet store, and is more than happy to be her successor one day. Buck has also ended up with Jill Smith. For Buzz, he has ended up with Lola Curious of all people. [An alien, irony...] Ripp and Buck convinced their dad she was a good person, and she managed to impress Buzz with her way of politics. Lola was also a great stepmum for the kids; Buck especially got along with her.

I always assumed Lila would have decorated too. I put pretty pictures on the wall in Buzz's room and nice furniture, but it's all a little dated. Like he won't take it down, but doesn't know how to decorate himself. I prefer to play the Grunts as trying, but struggling rather than loveless.

Well, the Grunts ARE loveless. Especially Buzz, he had loveless unhappy arranged marriage with Lyla Vandermorgan who never loved him from the beginning and who was forced to marry him by her parents. Buzz didn’t choose Lyla, neither Lyla didn’t choose Buzz. They were incompatible. And you can’t be nice by force - an old good Russian idiom. It’s not surprising that this arranged unhappy marriage ended with a complete disaster and caused a huge damage to Buzz’s reputation and Lyla’s mental health which, unfortunately, led to her untimely demise. Lyla never loved Buzz from the begin with, she wanted to be free and independent, she never wanted to be a mother, a housewife and a bird locked in a golden cage. Unhappy marriage makes unhappy children and unhappy, dysfunctional families.

@@yesimona it’s a fact. He was a military heir, she was a romantic girl. Both are from powerful lineage, so they had an arranged marriage. They were very incompatible as Buzz is a quite neat, but very outgoing, active, serious and grouchy, while Lyla was a romance sim and very sloppy. She never wanted this life - life of a mother and a housewife. She wanted to choose a partner by herself.

girl you did it again!!! This build is fantastic. I don't love the base game Grunt house but this made it 10x better. I grew up with a military father and I think you nailed the hobbies and the decor. I'm feeling inspired to make an Uberhood since I don't usually play Strangetown on its own! I also second the Discord comment. I really enjoy using Discord to connect with other Simmers casually, if streaming isn't your thing. Love your videos :)

And they have weapons hanging on the walls + photos from their entire journey in the forces. 😅

Very nice work. I like how you did the terrain. I'm in Arizona and it is not sand as some may think a desert to be. There is a lot of scrub brush, desert plants and cactus. At 12:57, where did you get the tall dry grass/ weeds?

I kinda wonder if General Buzz Grunt had a softer side that's why his wife fell in love with him and maybe as she passed or was ya know exited by Olive's guidence, maybe it made him even grumpier and more closed off and that's why the house is so clinical in a military way? Typical older gen male not dealing with his issues and sort of making the place a bad place for all that then ripple effects? I like to think he's 'toxic' or 'problematic' but not a deadbeat father and that he does love his kids but maybe the way he's pulled inwards doesn't really leave room to be affectionate or as observant as he needs and he doesn't wanna admit he's still in grieving over his wife? Lyla. This is how I usually play the family.

That's definitely a possibility! Maybe he wasn't so rough but he became colder after Lyla left and passed away. And I definitely don't think he's a deadbeat father, kind of the opposite, he wants the best for his kids, but he's going about it in perhaps not the most productive of ways. It's what he's learned from the military where they "taught him how to be a man" and thinks being strict is the proper way to do this parenting thing. That's why I'm entertaining the idea of him and Brandi Broke getting together :D I'll have to see if they have chemistry in my game.

And he doesn’t know other way. He has no siblings, he was the only one heir of the military legacy prepared by his father Chip. And he wants Tank to continue the legacy. It could be ok if there weren’t for two troubles - Ripp and Buck, other two sons. I think Buzz ignores them because they were unplanned and unwanted, and, as Lyla Vandermorgan, his ex-wife was a romance sim, she probably cheated on him. And he thinks that Ripp and Buck are not his kids. But he doesn’t want to understand that time is changing. There are new generations coming. And these new generations want change, they don’t want to obey old outlived rules, they want more freedom, independence and self-expression. It’s impossible to make everyone follow your footsteps. Every person is unique and everyone wants to go by their own way. Rippert, that’s full name of Ripp is a kind of a new generation sim - a system fighter, a rebel and an anarchist.

Such a great lot design! I've always wondered about Grunt's past. What started the General and Lyla's breakup and why she went to Olive. Everything in Strangetown is shrouded in incredible mystery. Can you tell us where it's from or what the name of the hangar at the very beginning of the video is? :)

I always thought Lyla left because General Buzz didn't give her the love and attention she wanted (she's a romance sim after all). My Uberhood Brandi actually married Buzz. It is a drama all in itself because I decided that for the drama she would abandon her other three kids for him in Pleasantview and basically leave the oldest to raise the two youngest. Meanwhile she and Buzz have had quadruplets and she is living the stepford wife life in Strangetown.

@@bibipixels her goal was actually to marry into one of The Great Families. I come from medieval fantasy game play so I kind of established an upper upper class in my uberhood as well, e.g. the Goths, Montys, Capps, Spectors etc. But of course, they wouldn't marry someone they view as trailer trash with already three kids. She basically wanted to be like Dina but Dina actually pulled Michael Bachelor, Mortimer Goth and now Consort Capp in my game. Girl knew how to move in upper class circlea. A high ranking military officer from a town no one knows her was the best Brandi could do. Poor Dustin had to skip college because of her antics. I think I will have her be a tiger mum for the four kids which lines up very well with Buzz's parenting so far as well. Basically living her dream of being rich and fancy through her kids.

love the look of this lot! the terrain paints can really transform a lot too. i have to satisfy my sim needs with others videos for now because my game is experiencing sudden pink flashing and trying to solve the issue is driving me insane, i would love to see the custom hood! I feel limited with the premades often too, but it's mostly my own fault cause i always compare to what others have done with their premades and think theirs is so much better and nuke the whole thing only to start over again lol. Making notes on what you plan to say is a good idea, if you are usually quiet irl then i imagine filming this in real time you would forget to talk and tell us your thinking process on the renovations haha. looking forward to seeing the custom hood!

aahhh I'm sorry you're dealing with pink flashing, that's so annoying!! Ts2 loves to randomly stop working every now and again. I haven't really watched/read many stories with the premades so I don't feel too influenced by anyone. My favorite sims 2 story with the premades is Skell's Fortune & Romance, I consider that canon :D

In my Strangetown The General married Crystal Vu and I figured she would not want to live in that house like that either so she has slowly done some repainting and redecorating. She started with their room and then the boy's room. They got to have better beds and to paint their rooms something besides green. They also had a baby girl and I feel that that might soften The General up some (girls are different from boys in their father's eyes). I think the house turned out very nice. I really like the workout shack. That's a great idea actually. The sims pathing through that house is an absolute mess and it's not just the one tile upstairs hall. Anything that can make them get through the house better is great!

I just got done renovating my Grunt lot a couple of weeks ago! It was definitely a challenge trying to see how I would decorate a house from a military man’s perspective… 😅 Currently, General Buzz has *finally* retired. Tank was married for a brief period, but his wife left him and their son. Tank is back living with his dad and General Buzz definitely has a soft spot for his grandson😂 Still hates everything else, though. Ripp is a millionaire graphic studio design artist? I honestly don’t remember where or how he got the millions? I certainly did not use cheats on him. But he lives with his adopted stray cat, Chili. They live in a nice little bachelor pad. Buck and Jill naturally fell in love. I didn’t have to force it - it just happened. So I guess we will be having a wedding for them soon. Side Note: Way back when my now fiancee and I first started dating, he invited me to his apartment for dinner. I will say his apartment was surpringly decorated with some cute kitchen decor. He actually had stuff on the walls. I said “Aw, I love your kitchen!” He said “Thanks! My grandma decorated it for me.” 😂

Ooo I love it!! I actually think the black and grey exterior on the house looks so much better in terms of contrast with the sand, but I think it also fits the characters of the Sims perfectly - the colours are very cold and unwelcoming which is exactly what General Buzz is. Love this reno! I cant believe you made an orange and black color scheme on the outside actually work, but honestly its got the perfect vibes. I especially love the gym, though overall your reno is top notch, really makes the place feel like it fits the characters more.
