Yeah this could add a really interesting twist to legacy play. You could move the previous generation's heir and spouse into the rented part of the house instead of having them stay as playable Sims, if you wanted. Same for spares, if you want them to stick around.

ive been noticing this problem with new worlds lately. they keep getting smaller and lifeless. i love the visuals but i hate how spread out and sparse the lots are in the newer worlds. I think this pack complements city living more than replacing it. For Rent focuses on smaller multifamily housing while City Living is more about high-rise living in a dense city. I like that there are two very different takes on housing and cities between the two packs. I was always worried there'd only ever be one "city" world and the rest would be American suburbia, so this is refreshing to see.

Agreed. The complaints that new pack content should have been in older pack releases is just wrong in my opinion. Cottage Living was so successful 2 years later they created a complimentary Horse pack. City Living is so well loved 7 years later they created a complimentary pack to work along side it. SEVEN YEARS! That is a long time to work on the core functions of how the game is laid out of the course of a game lifecycle. Back in 2016 we really didn't have a lot of the features that exist now even just in base game. Configurable stairs, likes & dislikes, neighborhood stories. All of these are going to enhance how well this pack would have been received assuming they had made this content before or alongside City Living.

There’s actually a couple hotel mods. The simipliest one just adds a lot trait. Shouldn’t need much changing for this as it just makes it possible to have a short term rental, which is all a motel/hotel is. Vs a long term rental like an apartment, which a little more of a permanent situation.

this pack is actually getting me back into the game, im so excited for it because itll affect everything. i mean, you can basically have 6x the families in a single world now LOL (cause 6x units on a lot, without cheats, more with.) also ill have to agree with others imo that the mold death is totally fine considering sims can literally burn alive and drown etc (which is kinda graphic hahah). its just a "slower" keeler than the others which may feel "different" from the usual things? I am so excited for the may possibilities of multiple units on the same lot outside of apartments. I think seeing this as JUST apartments and just "city" life is limiting the potential of this pack. You can have two disconnected homes for two separate sim families on the same lot. When mom and dad age into elder, they could have a little house off to the side while the child or children with growing families inherrit the main house. You can have town houses or disconnected houses that just share a larger lot. No more single sims or small families taking up a whole large lot just for themselves, unless you want that. The flexibility of this lot type is as big or as small as your imagination. Even in horse ranch, you could play an up and coming rancher renting a small cabin on a larger piece of land from the big rancher. One of my latest ideas is a small tiny house village in sulani with common area bathrooms and cooking. I am so excited to come up with ideas where Sims share a lot that aren't traditional apartments. I don't know why the clock is confusing, it's not a countdown it's an actual 24 hour clock showing how often the lanlords day is interrupted by managing tenants. Also, as a person who's mom actually did get sick from mold in low quality housing, I actually am not offended. The mold death in Sims is so unrealistic and cartoony, it's not something I connect to actual IRL. And all you have to do for it not to happen is clean up and be a good landlord. Unlike all the many stupid deaths in sims. Like I love the Murphy bed with tiny living. I don't think people get the point of a murphy bed, even in real life, is to clear up more floor space during the day, not to take up less space then the bed. You need to be able to pull the bed down every night. Things can't be in the way of the bed coming down at night, but you can clear a path to the table during the day that it is okay to block at night when you are asleep. But I am scared a stupid murphy bed death will happen "just cause" making me reluctant to use it as much as I would like to in buiids.

With custom trait mods I’ve got some mental health traits so I can do what I will to my sims with that, but the apartment system coming out is going to make the kind of gameplay that I already do (not playing mostly families but still communal living!) even more immersive. 🫶

The mold death animation is just more "gross" than I think most TS4 players are used to. The closest analogue is the Strangerville parasite infection, and that game pack was not very popular as far as I know. It's obvious that the inspiration isn't real life mold death-- It's The Last of Us (which makes sense. When the show was big, this was in development). It's not that the game is "insensitive" or "immoral", it's that it's kind of yucky, and spooks a vocal minority players. Disgust is not the same thing as immorality.

I think the "animal sanctuary" is going to be like a zoo, not adoptable pets. Where I live we have sanctuaries for wild animals that were injured and being rehabilitated, and some animals who can't be released stay on as "ambassador" animals.

You can play both as a landlord or tenant. We can have up to 6 households on one lot by default (bit there will be a cheat to change/remove this limitation). While I agree on one hand that this would have been a better feature in City Living... on the other, the game was running on 32-bit at the time and I'd argue it was even less optimised than it is now behind the scenes. I don't think the game or the team was ready to add this feature in For Rent. City Living and For Rent are also going for different vibes and themes, and the apartments in CL have separate lots behind loading screens as flats, while the new lot type offers home with no loading screens in-between, like in Sims 2. They also confirmed we can basically pre-build multi-household lots now and easily set up the boundaries once the pack drops. So long the pack will otherwise be wort the EP price tag, this could actually be a pretty decent pack - and I have no problem endorsing 🏴‍☠️ EA games lol

my understanding of the "animal sanctuary" is that it will be a rabbit hole situation... I don't think that there will be any actual animals that you can see otherwise they would have shown that in the trailer... they did show a woman holding a badge with a paw print on it which suggests that they were maybe a "protector" or "officer" for the animal sanctuary area, but that's really all that they showed in the trailer about it... seems out-of-place to me with this pack but if animal sanctuaries are more common in locations like Thailand (which I don't know) then it would make more sense...

They are a pretty common tourist attraction in Thailand, but I would bet it'll be like the hiking in Snowy Escape where they'll walk a set path and get a moodlet if they see a canned animation.

When I went trekking in Thailand as part of World Team Challenge, our acclimatisation phase was meant to be in an area with a wildlife sanctuary but the idiots organising it messed up with the dates it was actually open to the public. Thankfully they allowed us to stay in the area outside the gates or it could've been pretty tricky to figure out where to stay. But yeah, they have big national parks which are nature reserves for animals. Only wildlife we got to see was a poisonous caterpillar that decided it wanted to hang out on my neck for a bit which was "fun". It was one of those "if you get stung by the barbs you'd better be close to a hospital, so don't touch them" kind of deals. And it was on my neck. And we were several hours away from the nearest hospital. So I was lucky one of the people with me was able to remove it before it could cause a problem.

🍄I really like the mold death being added! It is one of the big reasons I am considering buying it. I love everything to do with mushrooms, even though sometimes they have tried to unalive me! I had a bad mold problem under my trailer and had to move out for a few months while it got treated. Turned out we had a pipe leaking. I only noticed it cause I had a death cap mushroom pop up INSIDE my house. That was not fun but I still don't take offense to this, totally not insensitive to me.

it's good to see you back! im gonna be real honest, i'm glad we didn't get this specific multi-unit building in city living. i truly do not think they'd have done it well if it had been implemented so early into ts4's life, and the way we seem to be able to build homes with this feel distinct enough from the shells that it doesn't feel like we're being ripped off etc. they could have goofed it massively but from my personal first impressions, i don't think they have. (it's also worth noting that TS4's roadmap probably wasn't intending to go on for nearly a decade when city living came out - if the game had continued w the 4-5 year cycle we'd be coming to the end of the sims FIVE's life right now, and i think this context is always important when we look at the way the devs are trying to revisit concepts we arguably already have in ts4) i will say though it would be interesting if they went back and edited city living's shells so the entire floor could be built with this packs mechanism, but tbh i don't think that will happen and honestly this could probably bring a fair amount of balance for the different kinds of players and playstyles.

I liked the early concept stuff that looked like houses can touch one another like most houses in the UK do, but not keen on how they have be to rented not just owned houses. And not keen on the breaking & entering thing being on the rental properties as that's not exactly hugely common. And the concept of people somehow being closer just because the houses are closer together. We don't know any of our neighbours and you can't overhear one another because we have proper brick walls with insulation. So its like they've almost added regular people houses but then missed the mark entirely as per usual. The animal sanctuary is probably like the cinema that is a rabbit hole thing to visit.

I haven't seen or played TLOU but idk if that's what the mold death is referencing. I interpreted it as a further theme on rental life and shitty landlords that are totally fine with letting their tenants live in molded filth and get sick from things that are their(the landlords) legal responsibility to fix and maintain. I don't know how bad it is in the UK, I imagine landlords are the same everywhere, but here in the US it's...bad lmao. Landlords would absolutely let their tenants die from things that are their job to fix, like black mold that they paint over and say they took care of.

I don't know if anything's been stated anywhere, but what I'm curious about is whether you can have your Sim's home and then rent out a bedroom. That'd be pretty interesting! You could play as the Sim renting out the room to an uncontrollable Sim, or play as the Sim renting the bedroom from the uncontrollable landlord.

the problem with sims games is that they don't add any drama. hope this pack adds burglars and even stalkers to the sims. you can run away from them like a fire and call the police. so the detectives have some work to do and so you can get them arrested. i think that'd be neat!
