I'm just here to remind everyone that Revan not only was the origin of the Rule of Two, he was also the origin of Order 66. In KOTOR 2, HK 47 acts as a Revan "proxy": basically everything he was programmed with was given to him by Revan. And in one of the conversations you can have on "how to kill Jedi" he basically says one of the best ways is to get their comrades to turn on them suddenly then overwhelm them through numbers. Revan would have detailed this in his holocron as one of the things passed on to help the Sith survive, which in turn was recorded "faithfully" by Bane into the Telos holocron, which was Sidious' prized possession. And KOTOR 2 came out before Revenge of the Sith.

@@cillianthestupendous6093 It is Bane who took it to the extreme he did. Revan had many Dark Jedi under his command. He even had academies set up to train Force users in the dark side. Revan's version of the Rule of Two was that there would only be 2 ruling Sith, not two Sith period. One Dark Lord and one heir. In other words, one master and one apprentice to that master. Vs before, where one Sith would have many heirs (apprentices) and those apprentices might group together to take over from a stronger master. These lesser heirs would then fight among themselves, weakening the Sith (the Sith in Revan's case referring to his entire Empire) and leaving it vulnerable to attacks from the Republic/Jedi. Revan's plan allowed for the fact that it was in a Sith's nature to betray (or rather crave power), while at the same time ensuring a smooth transition of power so that the infrastructure of the Empire would remain intact under a singular new leader (who was, theoretically, stronger than the last. What was wrong with the plan was that there is no perfect way to protect against trickery (like Malak firing on him with a spaceship). But it was still a better plan than what was happening before, and it still somewhat worked how Revan intended (his Empire remaining strong after the "death" of the previous Dark Lord). It was, again, Bane who decided that it couldn't only be two ruling Sith, it had to be two Sith period. In fact, Revan's master Kreia fell victim to this when she tried to simultaneously control Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus. They combined their strength to overthrow her. And if Nihilus had been a normal Sith (and not one that could increase his strength exponentially), this would've resulted in two unworthy Sith taking over from a stronger master. Another example of the old system at work was the Dark Council of Vitiate. If Vitiate had been a normal Sith, and not (again) a world devouring monster, the Dark Council would have succeeded in their attempt to combine their might and overthrow him. They would then have gone back to fighting among themselves, splintering the Empire. Nihilus and Vitiate were exceptions, both far stronger than they would be with only their own power. It was normal for the Sith under the old system to behave like Nihilus did (teaming up to overthrow their leader) or Vitiate (taking on multiple underlings who all had a type of ruling authority). And in every other case for the most part, the coups resulted in the Sith weakening themselves. Revan was unique as a Sith. He actually cared (in a twisted way) about the best person for the job ruling, and cared about the future of his Empire, rather than solely about his own power.

I think that's why Revan was respected and loved by The Mandalorian's, Sith and Jedi. For everything and anything he was willing to do for the galaxy. From defeating The Mandalorian's and destroying them for many many year's and earning their respect. To flipping an entire political structure of the Republic and starting the Jedi civil war. To returning as a Jedi and defeating the Sith and saving the Republic. Revan did so much for the galaxy to teaching both Sith and Jedi and inventing the Rule of 2 for Darth Bane to studie and implement even though Bane kinda messed it up a little.

@@Unelson23 to me the assumption that the Sith would become more powerful and stronger with every succeeding Sith master in the present without looking back and understanding the main goal of the Rule Of 2. Which from the start at least was, preserving the Sith. I think Bane was successful learning it but to me I think he messed it up a little by not passing that knowledge on properly. to me the proper use of the Rule Of 2 was Bane because even though Revan invented it, he could not implement it because he went back to becoming a Jedi, and never had an apprentice after. Bane to me was the only one that used it properly but messed it up by not properly passing that knowledge on. PS: the idea that the sith would care about Bane's idea when they would want what's best for them self's. I understand the meaning behind it i think it was just misconstrued later on by the Sith. Which isn't Bane's fault but like I said before i think it was just miss communication. I think Bane could of extended the reach of what a master can do. And try understand that someone down the line might reject the dark side and might not fully embrace it. Darth Bane was correct I just think it could of been handled/preserved better.

Darth Revan and his Legacy Era counterpart Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus are my favorite. Both Sith and jedi but also neither. They sacrificed themselves and joined the sith to save the republic and jedi from a coming greater and dangerous sith. Two powerful individuals that defied the standard light and dark dichotomy and chose a new path for the greater good and succeeded in the end. I wish theirs and their controversial masters Kreia and vergere respectfully were explored in greater detail.

@@mrionzo4843 I agree in the masters yes, but forgiveness for mara not so much since that was done in self defense as was most of his actions in legacy. He made tough choices and became a necessary evil to make a war torn and divided galaxy safe which he did. He like revan played the part of a "villain" to do what a "hero" couldn't and they both succeed. Luke's jedi order post NJO became arrogant and so hooked on their old duel only aspects of the force and morality that they instigated much of the conflict with jacen/caedus unnecessarily. They could've worked together since he didn't want to kill them like palpatine but like with Mara got so caught up with jedi sith thing that they ended up the starting the conflict which flies right in the face of yodas old teaching of "jedi fights only in defense never attack". They always came after him for being their "enemy" just because he was a sith. It was that old stagnate belief that killed their old order effectively regressing to their old flaws that vergere and Jacens unifying force belief tried to turn them from. That's why I'm with Jacen and vergere

Even cheated death and came back, accomplished more than Palpatine's dark empire did tbh

No he didn't Palpatine's empire crippled the Jedi so much and affected it so hard that 100 years after he kicked the bucket he still affected the Jedi and the Jedi still couldn't recover properly while it took a week for the Old Republic Jedi and sith to recover with no ramifications

I suspect his Rule of Two thing was a trick by his holocron to screw over the Sith. Remember that even as a Darth he was actually trying to destroy the Sith, so it makes since his holocron would fuck them over. From the MMO, SWTOR, we can clearly see that having multiple apprentices was no problem at all for any Sith, which means we know it is a fact that Revan's gatekeeper lied about it to Bane.

I love how Revan really had like three different possible histories. You got Light Paragon Revan, Grey Paragon Revan, and Dark Paragon Revan. Personally I like Grey Revan, I like to believe he fully utilized both extremes of the force.

Speaking of holes, they wrote themselves into one with Kotor and tsl, because now they either a.) Have to admit that the effect attained from the Revan story was what they wanted for the chosen one story, which ipso facto means their story writing got better since inception (which is a good sign, that's supposed to happen), or b.) Kathleen Kennedy will intentionally torch Revan to make everyone hate him so she can be swaddled and coddled and never ever have to face admission that she has no clue what shes doing, isn't creative, doesn't understand star wars or its fans, and makes terrible decisions. Great video but allow me to point something out: Malak lost his jaw shortly after he ordered the destruction of Telos. Revan was PISSED because that was a crucial industrial world for his plans and punished Malak for it. What ensued was Revan whooping his chrome-dome ass in a duel which resulted in him lopping the bastard's jaw right off. They say that Malak didn't really get over that...

Revan is one of my favourite stories, and I hope that since his name's been re-canonised, they'll bring back the character. If they do, someone like Timothy Zhan should handle the overall story, because so much of the original is so good (and likely can't exactly be 100% fully used since Bioware made the games), only a master like Zhan with people like Filoni and Favreau could reimagine it without fucking it up.

It's always interesting when a character chooses the darkness in order to become a necessary evil. Doing good by doing bad, giving the "good guys" something to rally against and make a concerted effort to be prepared, while also keeping the darkness they chose loosely at bay. I just wanted to interject a quick fact; Revan wasn'isn't they only person to "choose" the dark side and use it like a tool, Quinlan Vos also did in 'Star Wars: Dark Disciple', in order to go after Count Dooku and try to assassinate him. Quinlan Vos has actually done this a few different times throughout his adventures.

I'd love a series of comics or animated shorts about the Mandalorian Wars, from 3 different perspectives; The Exile's, Malak's and Darth Revan's. I'd love to see a story from an alternate timeline in which Malak never betrayed Revan, Revan transformed the Republic into his Sith Empire, and the full might of his Empire was turned loose on Vitiate's Empire when it began its invasion, resulting in an apocalyptic war over the fate of the galaxy as two juggernauts strike each other with all of their might.
