Lyrcis
Young bones groan, and the rocks below say
"Throw your skinny body down, son"
But I'm going to meet the one I love
So please don't stand in my way
Because I'm going to meet the one I love
No, mama, let me go
Young bones groan and the rocks below say
"Throw your white body down"
But I'm going to meet the one I love
At last, at last, at last!
I'm going to meet the one I love
La-de-da, la-de-da
No, mama, let me go
No, no, no, no, no, no
I thought that if you had an acoustic guitar
Then it meant that you were
A protest singer
Oh, I can smile about it now
But at the time it was terrible
No, mama, let me go
No, no, no, no, no, no

Gorgeous! Thanks for the words! This is both Morrissey’s and Johnny Marr’s favourite Smiths track. Obviously, the Smiths were one of the greatest bands ever. I’m just a bit confused-the point of “Shakespeare’s Sister” as a song was, apparently, that in Shakespeare’s lifetime, if he had had a sister with equal talent, she wouldn’t have had the same opportunities. I remember reading that when they released this, but to this day, nearly 40 years on, I still don’t get that from the lyrics. Still love that you’ve loaded them though.. Thank you!

Its remarkable to think this compilation of B sides, outtakes wasn't even considered worthy of a full album. The variety, its poetical power and evocative guitar playing showed The Smiths at their zenith.

@@Transmedal2 that's my opinion that's it's a forgettable song. _That's_ what you shouldn't take as fact. Maybe you really like it. Of course you can look up a song and see all about it. Why would anyone lie about something so trivial? Also if you don't trust a site like Wikipedia then do you also not trust books? Because when information is added to a topic the source that it was from, such as a book has to be cited. Other sources of information such as online newspapers are still made by the same people that print the paper versions. There's a difference between healthy questioning and critical thinking about stuff and simply flat out refusing to believe anything :)

I've been a serious Smiths fan for over 10 years. I know every studio track they ever recorded, can name every track on every album in order and I honestly think this song is totally forgettable. There are comments saying how they had this song stuck in their head. How is possible to have this stuck in your head - it has no melody? I feel like people are just lying when they say they like it honestly. And like I said I do "get" the Smiths. Theyve been the only band I even listen to for weeks many times before. This song is just so nothing.

Probably has to do with how one relates to it. I always associate it with The Glass Menagerie because, well, it's based on the damn Glass Menagerie. I teach literature classes occasionally and, when we read that work, I always end up singing it. Also, I relate to the character of Laura, as does Moz.
