In 1999, a series premiered on HBO that would change television: "The Sopranos," the saga of a New Jersey crime family headed by Tony Soprano, an anti-hero who enters therapy to question a lifetime of violence and corruption. Correspondent Anthony Mason talks with series creator David Chase, and the show's stars Edie Falco, Steven Van Zandt, Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, about the personal and cultural impact of "The Sopranos"; about the late James Gandolfini, whose performance as Tony Soprano Chase calls "otherworldly"; and about the series' controversial finale.
"CBS News Sunday Morning" features stories on the arts, music, nature, entertainment, sports, history, science and Americana, and highlights unique human accomplishments and achievements. Check local listings for "CBS News Sunday Morning" broadcast times.

For years, I was disappointed with the ending. That is, until my oldest son explained it to me, and then, I saw the genious in that ending. My son said that there's a scene aboard the boat where there was talk about being shot, and one character said something like "Whe you're shot, you don't know you're dead." In the final scene of the final episode Tony looks at the restaurant door every time someone walks in. One person raises a un as he enters and then, black from Tony's perspective. He doesn't know he's dead. THEN, I saw that the ending was BRILLIANT!

Chase ended the show in that manner because that is the essence of the life Tony led. That kind of life never stops you don't punch a clock or go on vacation from it. It is relentless and your always looking up no matter if you're eating with your family or doing a hit.....as well the audience of course got to end it on their terms but I believe it was simpler than that and he was conveying that even though we as an audience we're done watching Tony. Favorite scenesFavorite scenes from the series: …when Meadow introduced her African American/Jewish boyfriend to Tony. …when Tony confronted Dr. Kennedy at the golf course, insisting he respect Uncle Junior and return his phone calls. …when Finn told Tony and his capos that Vito was gay. …when Tony and the family conducted an intervention on Christopher. …when Silvio executed Adriana. This final scene was soul-crushing, but it was honest because it revealed the sinister side of Sopranos tribalism. This show belongs in the proverbial hall of fame alongside The Wire and Breaking Bad.

But also interesting how the view on mental health has changed. I would have found it interesting to have seen it back when it was shown and terms like anxiety were brought up compared to today.

This show was a masterpiece each episode was greatly and super written each week it was like a movie all on it's own each week, plenty of drama, surprises and sex and violence it was raw and brash never missed an episode as it had you glued as each season and past episodes connected up with one another.

I really try not to watch anything to do with the Sopranos for about 3 years before I watch the series over again. This way I forget as much as possible. But, this was nostalgic.

Kinda funny how when they say Nancy Marchand really brought it to life they use a clip from when she was already dead and they did a scene with cgi or something
