There's a lot of psychological complexity to Jackie Jr.'s character arc. Here's a guy who had absolutely everything and thew it all away with a series of horrible choices. It's like he couldn't help but dive into the abyss.

Tony loved that kid. When he said all you do is hurt me, I felt that on an emotional level. Tony doesn’t just love anybody! This kid was like his other son.

The saddest part is that I do think Tony actually loved him. Note he didn't call him a failure or any other insult. He used "bottomed out" a phrase meant to describe stocks that plummet before rising back up. He genuinely beleived Jackie Jr could bounce back :(
