@Aivottaja Жыл бұрын
Junior wasn't incompetent. Tony was often asking him for advice. He was just disrespected, behind the times and marred by insecurity. As for why he was disrespected, I have no idea. Maybe it was because of his kid brother's shadow. He was made before Junior and was apparently old man DeMeo's second in command in the whole pygmy thing. Junior was behind him as long as he was alive. He was just kind of obsolete and too keen of the title and (feigned) respect to be a boss. He was easily manipulated by appealing to this need for validation. But he knew the mob business. He worked better as advisor or number two.

@@JL-rx7ou I don't think it was the gossip, even tony had to kill gossipers including pat parisi's brother. He wasn't respected because junior is a small man. Folks saying the writers were careless in letting Jackie Jr accompany Richie to this meeting might be forgetting that the writers nailed everything with this show. This scene wasn’t the writers’ carelessness, it was their foreshadowing of how Richie’s own carelessness would bring him down. Richie’s constant inability to rationalize things properly (and in the process dispensing with some of the mafia’s norms) would continue getting him in jams. That’s apparent from his bringing Jackie Junior - perhaps an associate at this point and albeit the son of the former boss - who was not a made guy to this discussion of a potential coup against the current boss of the family. Richie’s carelessness and Junior’s hold over Richie by not specifically calling out Richie’s faults (like other folks do) is in full display as Junior dismisses Jackie Junior the moment he speaks but doesn’t tell Richie that he messed up by bringing JJ. Unlike Richie, from just receiving a brief recap of the captains’ feedback to the potential coup, Junior immediately assesses the landscape - the other captains not going along with Richie wasn’t out of fear but stemmed from their lack of respect for him. Those other captains were willing to follow Tony, a hot headed selfish guy who for all his faults still believed in la costa nostra. Richie’s carelessness didn’t allow him to read those cues and Junior, once again maintaining his hold over Richie, takes a patriarchal stance (“You’re a good boy Richie”) but doesnt say a word or school Richie about his folly. Junior sends Richie home without providing any insight. That lack of insight and the constant failure to read the cues plague Richie right until his demise in a situation where he once again, failed to read the cues and acted carelessly; taunting an angry and hysterical gun-toting Janice.

I always thought it was weird Richie took Jackie Jr. along with him to this meeting. He wasn't even an associate, but was allowed to hear about a plot against the boss of the family? I think that's pretty careless. Also it's funny how Richie spurned his son for being a dancer/possibly gay, but said he would be proud of a son like JJ. +Caligae Richie Aprile was trying to rally support amongst the capos to take Tony out. Recently in terms of that season, Tony ruled against Larry Barese's favor in a garbage contract and tried to use that to convince Barese that Tony was being an unfair boss and should be taken out. However, both Albert and Larry declined to support Richie's move, which sent Junior the message that Richie wasn't persuasive or respected enough to take Tony's place as boss, so he decided that Richie was overall useless and let Tony know Richie's plans. However, if Albert was okay with Richie taking Tony out, Junior would have gone with Richie sending the message to Junior that the capos would rather have another boss. This whole situation was some masterful mind games in Junior's part.

Jaegar Ultima tru although he never said it maybe he WANTED to groom Jackie Jr i mean at that point who was left to represent the Aprile name but those two? Plus its just one more thing that Richie could be against Tony about. Had richie lived longed and got ally boys approval? Tony would have been wiped off da map and Jackie jr most likely would move up in the game shiiit maybe even Richie’s own chrissy moltisanti in a few years ahhaha

Old man Profaci was a great character. I wish we would’ve seen more of him
@brittanyrodin93211 жыл бұрын
That is what is great about the show. A lot of it is between the lines. You have to read the expressions the actors give and the subtext to their decisions and motives. A weaker show would have spell it out for someone by having Bobby confess his regrets to a priest or ask Tony not to. But the Sopranos is one of the only shows that trusts in it's audiences intelligence.
@Thejbirdy11 жыл бұрын
Bobby...of all the Sopranos characters why did he seem innocent in some way? Great actors...

1:03 - Junior "We got to screw our courage to the post" Straight out of Shakespeare's Macbeth. Lady Macbeth, "We fail! But screw your courage to the sticking-place and we'll not fail!" She was trying to persuade Macbeth to kill Duncan, the king of Scotland. Similar to the plot to kill Tony, the king of this crime family. David Chase did his homework. Sopranos fans - go read some Shakespeare. Incredible stories, great prose, and memorable plots.

This show was groundbreaking. Talk about paving the way for so many others shows that followed. Without the sopranos and its brilliant anti villain character a lot of the hit shows that came afterwards would cease to exist. Like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Dexter, Ozark, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, etc.

Kimberly Tyrcha Never understood that either. Little shit probably thought he had any power because of his father and uncle
@Howard.Stern.5 жыл бұрын
He explains why he brings him. Richie hates that his son is a flambe. So he hangs around with Jackie Jr. as a replacement for his own son. He tries the same with AJ but Tony forbids him from seeing him. Jackie was the same age as his own son Little Ricky. And Jackie was probably good to hang around with for Richie because he wanted nothing more than to win over Richie's approval and enter into the mafia. He was the ultimate 'yes man' for Richie.
