The South Shields’ poltergeist has been described as “one of the most remarkable British poltergeist cases thus reported in the twenty-first century”. For certainly, this case of paranormal activity showcases all manner of creepy haunted phenomena, including objects moving of their own volition, strange sounds, anomalous voices, and even horrifying physical interactions between the living and ghosts. Investigated in 2006, the haunting centred on a family in the North of England, specifically 42 Lock Street. Was it a ghost? A demon? Or some other form of spirit or unseen happening? Whilst the origin of the poltergeist remains unknown, its terrifying legacy stands, with much strangeness - including creepy photos - having been documented by those who visited the property, helping to illuminate the bizarre truth behind poltergeists and the paranormal.

It is not good enough for people to make out that they are but a bit of fun. Evil spirits start as being benign, but as soon as a person is captivated then the face of evil is shown.

I lived in a haunted house for 11 years and I can tell you, you just don’t realize it’s paranormal till things escalate to a degree you cant dismiss them as imagination. The culmination of my intelligent haunting was when the entity appeared to me as my own son walking past my bedroom one evening. I went to find him to say good night when I discovered he was asleep in his room. Chills me to this day!

WOOOAH I believe you, and I rarely ever take anyone seriously or even bother to read everything they say because I can tell straight away that it is made up 🤔 As for so called "ghosts", "orbs", "poltergheists" or any other fancy names that people have given them, they are nothing more than different manifestations which are done by spirits or souls(US when we don't have a physical body) to bother or make fun of the living, whether it is here or on any other planet of the universe. Yes, We Are Not Alone and people from other planets also experience paranormal phenomena, as spiritual entities can travel to any part of the universe at a speed faster than light. For last, I'd like to clarify that spiritual entities who bother or make fun of the living are from the lower realms of consciousness(like Himmler, Jimmy Savile, Marylin Monroe and maybe even you 😄), spirits from the higher realms of consciousness(like Gottfried Leibniz, Hypatia of Alexandria or Jesus the Christ) are only interested in serving others in any way that they can. In the spiritual dimension, there is no shapes or forms, no families, no friends, no relationships, only conscious energies interacting with each other all the time, therefore the spirit you saw was simply trying to scare you for its own amusement 😅

That's interesting. As a skeptic, although not necessarily a non-believer, I'm genuinely curious. 2005 is really recent. Cameras, and video recorders were common and readily available, even on phones, even back then (although granted they were potato quality). I can't seem to find any visual evidence online to back any of this up. Is it just in the book and therefore payable? Given the apparent frequency of events, someone somewhere must have been able to catch something, surely.

@je7055

@@MimiJoys You hit the nail on the head. And speaking only for myself, that's exactly where I lose the ability to suspend my disbelief for this case. It's an interesting story-well, admittedly pretty similar to virtually every poltergeist case in pop culture, but Laura's a great storyteller-but even if moving house isn't an option, I don't know ANY parent who would stay in a house if an alleged poltergeist was pulling their toddler out of his crib, much less burying the child under furniture and causing him or her to enter apparent trance-like states. If my child seemed to be "sleeping with his eyes open" after I found him swaddled and pinned under a table, I'd call an ambulance, not sit around and just hope he wakes up. For all they knew, he could've suffered a head injury. But moreover, I'd have the child sleeping with my parents or in-laws every night, regardless of how much it inconvenienced them. Forget the question of why they didn't take a sample of the blood in the toilet-why on earth did they let their baby keep sleeping in the same room that was haunted, they'd have us believe, by a poltergeist that was not only threatening the child, but going so far as to stuff the poor child in a chest-of-drawers? It was a great listen, but on the believability scale, I'd rank this one somewhere around "laughable".

Academic parapsychologists investigating poltergeist cases have found they are largely attributable to unconscious psychokinesis by a member of the household who is experiencing stress but not managing it well. Informing that person that they're the source of the phenomenon typically ends it. Curious to know whether the investigators tested that possibility in this case?

I have experienced a very violent poltergeist with my family in a house we lived in, in Arlington Texas. Every single person experienced something, including neighbors that came over to simply give us baked goodies, or friends that came over to spend the night, or family members, and even police officers that we called one night because our back door was wide open one time. When the police went inside they said every cabinet and drawer was wide open and slammed when they entered the kitchen area. But they couldn’t find anyone so they left ofcourse. The worst thing that happened to me personally by this poltergeist was when I was trying to go to sleep and I shared a bed with my brother. I had a very bad feeling that something was going to happen so I couldn’t sleep but I tried to force myself to sleep because I had school the next day and, as I closed my eyes I felt a hand aggressively grab a handful of my hair and began to drag me out of my bed into my closet which was directly behind me. There was another time my girlfriend came over and we were in my bedroom watching a movie in the middle of the day, and we heard banging coming from the kitchen and we snuck around the corner and peaked into the kitchen. Every cabinet and drawer was wide open just like the police officers saw, and then they began to slam and open and slam repeatedly really fast. And as this was happening I saw something that absolutely terrified and traumatized me. I mean my body was petrified, I was paralyzed in fear I actually could not move my body even though my brain was telling me to run my instinct was to flee as fast as I could but i physically could not move, and my girlfriend later told me she felt the same exact way and saw the same exact thing detail by detail. We both saw the poltergeist in its actual physical manifestation. It was standing on top of the refrigerator like a spider, on all fours, looking down at us, and it was pure black, and you could smell a very very intense and disgusting, and i mean absolutely abominable smell filling the air. I will never forget it. The way I felt when it was staring at me standing there like a spider in his hands and feet. I could not look it in its eyes, like I could look at its body but I did not could not look it in its eyes whatsoever. The feeling of absolute maliciousness, and insidious and evil, completely EVILNESS filled the room. My mother was actually attacked and her neck was broken, she still til this very has to deal with the aftermath of what happened to her physically. A sharp stick was thrown at her nearly piercing through her eye which would have definitely killed her, as she was putting boxes away in the shed. And she fell off the ladder breaking her neck. Before we moved out me and my brother 3 of my friends had a voice recorder, and we put it outside the closet in my bedroom which seems to be where the majority of the activity would manifest and we began to ask questions We asked it why it was here and what happened and who was it. And I kid you not it replied “to kill” Later to find out a man did a murder suicide of his wife and 2 children in that house, then turning the gun on himself.

First video I've seen by this channel and I'm happy to have stumbled upon it. I was one of those I see dead people kids and things got out of hand when a toy box was brought into the house. Origins dispute within the family, my mam claims it was bought new. My oldest bro claims it was a freebie from a family down the road whose kids had all grown up and they'd gotten it from their grandparents. So it was potentially a century old. It was a solid wood, built the old way, painted white with a big jolly clown face painted on it. Oh how I learnt to loath that clown and it's box. It started off with things moving around my room, the usual stuff. Then sometimes when I could not sleep due to a sense of something wrong in my room, I would turn over and the clown eyes were glowing baleful red. Not the sodium orange of the street light outside my window. I recall that one night I had the wrong feeling and despite the whole must not look mantra of kid me going on I peaked over and the eyes were not glowing. But then I noticed the lid was cracked open an inch or two and something was staring at me from inside the box with those baleful red eyes but now there was intelligence in those eyes. I'm not sure how long it was after that, as I'm 35 now and this occurred when I was 3ish, eventually the lid fully opened and something darker than the shadows around it climbed out of it and the next few years of my childhood were equal parts being terrorised by some ghostly entity and being saved from said entity from a more well defined ghostly entity that looked like an old man that shone with an inner light. He'd chase the "Chocolate Man" (as I called him as the hue of it's shadow reminded me of dark chocolate) back into his box and sing me lullabies to sleep. Problem is it was rare for the Old Man to come save me and The Chocolate man did not always mess with me so more often than not night time was, for a number of my formative years, either suspenseful terror at a what if of things go bump in the night or active terror at things going bump in the night. Also myself and 2 brothers were forever in trouble for moving things around in the kitchen and sometimes smashing plates during the night. Well. Mam finally accepted it was not us after the kitchen got trashed and we were away on caravan holiday and no signs of break in. We cleaned up and the same thing happened that night. Mam never did want to indulge me in the bump in the night stuff but after that she was more forgiving to my night terrors as she insisted they were. Well. Night terrors don't typically involved books being thrown around the room, sheets pulled off you, being pulled out of bed, things thrown at you etc. I could accept mind playing tricks but physics don't play tricks and something climbed out of that cursed toy box and proceeded to haunt me for a number of years. T hings calmed down a bit once I begged my way out of that bedroom by swapping with my older bro that shared a room with middle bro. But every now and then things would get hairy still. There was the mundane stuff like my cupboard door opening and it would be in there, things getting moved on my bros side of the room and me getting the blame for it (I'd get the older bro beat down and that thing knew it) but then there was the time that finally convinced my bros that I had not being making things up about what went on in the older bedroom with no one to see. I was laid on my back, propped up on my elbows watching TV. Bare in mind it was the early 90s so it was one of those old chunky TVs and the TV was sitting on a set of drawers that was wider than the base of the TV. So it would not be easily moved. Well there's me and my 2 bros watching whatever cartoon it was when the TV shunted forward off the drawers and landed squarely across my shins. Now that hurt. But at least I had 2 witnesses to such paranormal activity and I got the vindication, if I really needed it by that point, that it most assuredly was not all in my head. Eventually when I was much older I asked my mam about these memories of mine and she begrudgingly told me she believed me the whole time but thought telling me it was all in my head was the best thing to do and hopefully it would go away. Also she told me she believed because when I was only a couple weeks old and not being in the home for that long I was settled in the crip, fast asleep. Mam needed to go to the shops that were literally 50 meters away. Bit naughty to leave a newborn but hey, twas the 90s and mam needed cigs. But anyway. She said she was only halfway to the shops when she got an almighty urge to look back at the house. When she turned she said the house was bathed in a hazy white fire or at least all along it's edges it was crackling with white fire. Either way my mam is like WTF and rushes back to the house. She opens the living room door to find a scene of partial chaos. There I was still fast asleep but there was a vortex of living room items orbiting me at different speeds and distance. And we're talking from a coffee mug all the way to the TV, single armchair etc. Naturally my mam is freaked but accepts there does not seem to be anything overtly malicious going on. She said to no one in particular something like. "Okay, I'm scared now. Can you please let me get my child and maybe put everything back?" At which point everything did not magically go back to their places but things did go back in a jumbled but not damaged way. For example the TV went back but was balanced upside down. So my mam scoops me up. Says thank you and flees to the neighbours where they have a talk and it turns out the previous tenant in my mams council house had died of a heart attack. Old and alone, no family. He died in the room that initially was mine. I think I know who the old man with the inner light was, not sure about the other thing. I hesitate to say demon but yeah, it was a baleful thing full of malicious will. Damn well made my first memories of life somewhat....different to most kids. Anyway. There's my seeing is believing anecdote however as I always say. Just because I saw does not mean others have to believe so examples like The Southshields Poltergeist are good to have even if unfortunate for those who have to go through such a soul draining experiance.

*The case of the Enfield Poltergeist (near London, not northern England) in the 1970s was good because it involved a wide range of observers, including a few in the field of sciences. I think one of them was in physics. The poltergeist was supposedly the manifestation of a former resident of a council house outside London, a guy named Bill Wilkins. He had died of a cerebral hemorrhage. In both that case & the South Shields' one, a lot more investigation never seems to be ever done on former residents of a property. Wilkins supposedly was communicating with successor occupants, the Hodgson family, & investigators. But verification on all the details seemed to be ignored. Wilkins' son did confirm his father's death, but that seemed to be it. Ex: When did Wilkins die in the house? As for Lock St, did the family & investigators ever do a thorough study on former residents of the property?*

My entire family experienced this many years ago. Over time it included both parents, my younger sister, grandparents and aunts/uncles who were visiting - even pets. I'm an old man now but I remember like it was yesterday. These phenomena are impossible to dismiss when experienced firsthand - they're real. If that makes me "crazy" I'm perfectly willing to accept the tag.

The entity seemed to be polite on occasion. Messages such as "please don't go, I shall go with you" Another time saying "hello, sorry" and then the RIP message. If it were truly evil, why would they want someone to rest in peace? But rather "rest in hell"

Laura, great episode! Yes I have lived through a situation like this and incredible evidence can be collected and be nothing more than dust the next day. This is a game humans cannot play, but only watch. It's scary but can only be stopped by us taking the power away from it in our minds and absolutely believing in that effort. Evil is an expert in this scenario and will make fools of anyone who tries to show the truth. And I'm not lying in any way about my experience. It's just the way it is and that's part of what people just have to accept and move on like the death of a loved one.

I grew up in a haunted house... from birth to 9 years of age. I was also abducted on a regular basis by aliens. I always wondered about it, because they didn't come from the sky, but instead from under water. I had a strange piece of something that finally came out of the side of my hand when I became pregnant. 😦😮‍💨

The phone messages really get to me because my family experienced something similar when I was a kid, after using a talking board. Except for us it was a phone call that lasted only a few seconds, was the voice of someone the same age as the person we were talking to with the board, was not malicious (we don't think) and according to the caller ID service was from a withheld number. It just asked for my mum several times and hung up.
