I was taken to the ER while I was having a panic attack and the doctor told me I was faking it to my face. I was later told that I have extreme anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. Because of the extreme stress on my body I developed multiple tumors. thankfully they were benign. please please help end the stigma surrounding mental illness. when you are having a panic attack you can't afford to wait alone in an office for a doctor for six hours like I did.

Caroline B ERs are for life or limb threatening emergencies. You having a “panic attack” is neither. Stop clogging up emergency rooms for your psychiatric problems. Take some responsibility for your health and go to where they actually treat your condition.

I was 11. My depression lightened up for the next few years until Covid. Almost tried again the summer before my senior year (summer 2020). I’m now a young adult that deals with extreme anxiety and depression on top of possible endometriosis and a parent with mental problems brought on by losing his job for totally different reasons in 2019.

You wouldn't say "It's just cancer, just get over it." People need to stop treating mental health different from physical health. The brain is a valid part of the body to have problems functioning. I am not a parent so I do not know the struggles of being one, much less one with a mental illness... but I have some mental illnesses... so I think people need to realize that we, people with mental illnesses, are struggling everyday to do the things "normal" and healthy people take for granted. We want to get help to get better, we didn't choose to be this way. Don't slap a bandaid on something that needs stitches. More education of mental health and funding for mental health needs to be made.

No one is mentally ill. This world is teaching solidity which is a lie. Then everyone is acting like they die and that there are enemies and germs that will attack them. People are thinking that they are sick when they see visions. Barbara Brennan is a physicist that wrote the book "Hands of Light". Quantum physics proved a long time ago that nothing is solid. Death is dependent on solidity. So, actually we are eternal energy/light beings. Brennan teaches that people are eternal, multidimensional, electromagnetic, holographic energy light beings. Einstein and Tesla and Max Planck tried to teach this. So did Bohm. This is all I remember, but physicists see at the core of solidity is actually energy that vibrates, spins, rotates, oscillates, radiates, resonates and constantly bursts forth. This energy takes the form of many dimensions, so images from other dimensions can be seen here. Ghosts and angels exist because they are vibrating in other dimensions. When people are called schizophrenic, what they are seeing are images from other dimensions. The violence, the self harm and suicidal thoughts in people is because they feel that people are lying to them. AND they are right, big time. Trillionaires are making trillions from all this sickness, so they don't want this sickness to stop. Read the book "War Against the Weak" by Black. I actually heard on a documentary a doctor say that they had a cure for cancer but did not want to use it because then they would make no money. Barbara Brennan writes in her book that since we are 100% energy, then we are perfect. When we have emotions that we don't express, then a blockage occurs. This blockage of energy is called tumors, cancer, AIDs, etc. We are eternal electrical/image beings--holograms. Doctors don't read physics before they go into "practice". Don't forget they call all the money they make a practice. Barbara Brennan does not call her healing a practice. She teaches people to talk about their stresses. As stress is relieved, the holographic body is then cured. It is that easy.

Pure Energy I love you, you understand what only the rare do. To me, why I felt overwhelmed and had to go to a mental hospital is because I had traumas from past lives stuck to me. Dead people would show up in my dreams, people I once shared lives with. It made me sad, depressed and lost.

Pure Energy I really enjoy that you can put science into this. I totally understand you, even trough I have no idea of quantum physics (absolutely none. I tried to get into it. What's your take on homeopathy?). I know what you mean by sending people into the light and that death itself doesn't exist. I learned this from the total opposite from science: esoteric. When I was younger I spend alot of time with people who used chrystals to heal, they told me the same about how every chrystal has it's own soul and vibrations. I talked to mediums who told me that people can lower and raise their vibrations even after 'death'. And that you attract things that posses the same frequency/vibrations as you do. Obviously nothing is solid when everything has got a frequency :-)

Pure Energy But something that causes me alot of pain is the hatred people have for me when I talk about this. They call it pseudo science, nonsense even trough it's right infront of their eyes. Not being able to express what I think about our 'reality' without getting shunned is destructive to my well being. I just so stumbled over your comment, normaly I don't read KZbin comments anymore. Too much hatred and bad energy.

They're talking about stigma yet they use the terms "crazy person" and "temper tantrums" Please, if you're not going to say anything helpful or constructive, don't. Stop linking mass shootings and violent attacks to mentally ill people, it has nothing to do with mental illness and by saying this shit on TV you're making the stigma worse and therefore making every mentally ill person's life that much harder.

Orville Death is not a mental illness. Trillionaires are keeping this a secret. There has never been death because there has never been solidity. What is called solidity is 100% energy that rotates, spins, oscillates, vibrates, waves, radiates, resonates and bursts forth as quarks which spin billions of times a second as 3 points of light, forming what are called protons and neutrons. This means that people are 100% energy/light consciousness whether in these bodies or out of them. At what is called death, all of a person leaves their body except those frequencies that are bunched up so tightly. I read about the quarks in the book "The Quantum World" written by the physicist Kenneth Ford. Barbara Brennan, a physicist, wrote the book "Hands of Light". She wrote that people are holograms, not solid, and multidimensional, holographic and electromagnetic. Remember reading in science class about protons spinning as positive charges and electrons spinning as negative charges? This spin makes people electrical beings. People's thoughts are images that flow changing the body constantly. Holding on to any images causes this flow to stop, creating a blockage called tumors, AIDS, cancer, etc. Since there are many dimensions, then no one is schizophrenic. We are all perfect holograms. It is the teaching of this world in the belief in solidity that keeps people way down.

I hate how this video basically says all mentally ill children are harmful to others, that they hurt other people and scream and throw fits. A lot of kids don't do that; if the kid is especially young, yes, it is possible. Little kids act out whenever they feel depressed or anything. But the majority of youth does not threaten or hurt others because the majority of mentally ill children have things that make them suicidal, not homicidal. This just adds to the stigma that all mentally ill children are completely unsafe.

Mikey Trillionaires throw temper tantrums when something interferes with their ability to make lots of money. They make trillions from prisons, wars, drugs and the belief in death at the expense of all the people. Therefore, America has got the most trillionaires because it has got the most prisons in the world. America causes the most wars and sells the most drugs. America teaches death and enemies and sickness when it is not true. Read the book "Hands of Light" written by the physicist Barbara Brennan. She teaches that we are eternal, electromagnetic, holographic, multidimensional energy light beings right now. We are constantly being created as perfect patterned energy/light beings right now. All this supposed "mental illness" is caused by what these trillionaires are teaching. They did not read physics before they opened their mouths to say something. They want people to be sick. I heard in one documentary a doctor say that they did not want to cure cancer because cancer makes them so much money. Read the book "War on the Weak" by Black. This will give you more information about what is actually happening in America.

Pure Energy that’s like saying “headaches are just trillionares teaching people to have their head be in physical pain Because it makes them money” or “broken legs are just trillionaires teaching people to have fragile bones so that they can become more rich” depression is physical too in a sense because, it’s a chemical imbalance that causes it. Saying mental illness is fake is like saying air isn’t real, just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean people aren’t feeling the effects, it doesn’t mean that trillionaires are teaching people to breathe because it makes them money, it means that it’s just not visible.

I always warn myself not to read comments when mental illness is involved and yet I always do. And I'm almost always disappointed and angered about what I read. If you want to claim that it's just normal behavior & there is too much diagnosing going on & everyone's exaggerating, then that's fine. I hope you know that you are part of the reason there is such a stigma, but you are allowed your own opinion. But know that I would never wish my worst enemies to have to deal with the emotional turmoil that is mental illness. If you'd like to read my experience growing up with a mental illness read below, if not that's fine, but I sincerely hope you gain more empathy and knowledge about the stigma of what mental illness is. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when i was around 9 & can tell you that there is a big difference between a child with a mental illness being upset and a child without a mental illness being upset. The main differences, are about if it's even something to be angry about, how long the anger and tantrum last, and the severity of the situation. If a normal 9 year old doesn't get there way, yes there will probably be stomping and yelling and some tears but after a while they calm down. As a 9 year old I had much more severe reactions when something went wrong. I didn't just stomp my feet and cry, I would throw my whole body on the floor and slam my fists and flail around - Much like a 2 year old throws a tantrum. I would get so angry I'd pick things up and throw them violently around the room occasionally breaking them. I would get so upset that I'd cry so violently for so long that I would end up vomiting. On the manic side, I would be so hyper it would look like you gave a 5 year old 3 red bulls and as much candy as they wanted to eat. I would talk extremely loud and fast jumping from topic to topic, no one knew what I was going on about. I would act very animated and goofy when there was just no reason to be at all and I would come up with these elaborate ideas and think that no matter what I could do them all perfectly. Now thankfully I live in a community where there was mental health center with an inpatient unit, so I didn't have to deal with the hospital, but I did have to be admitted inpatient 3 times during the time I was 10-13. Once due to anger management (1-2days), Once due to suicidal thoughts and behaviors (5 days), and once due to lack of eating (5-7days) (I had convinced myself that if I stopped eating and went back to the hospital my dad would spend some more time with me & be concerned. It didn't work) I could easily say that as a parent, my mom was probably always embarrassed by me & my actions, confused and angry with my extreme emotions, and just drained that there were very few people to talk to about this experience who wouldn't judge her or her parenting skills.

Edward Ingersoll In my country they only do inpatient of they have to and for the shortest period possible. Sounds ok? That depends which MHI you are treated at. One doesn't even help inpatient after an OD, after losing blood that would nornally have taken someone out etc. Then there's my current MHI. No unnecessary inpatient treatments. But when you are honest about how you are doing and what you are fearing for and you know that previous short inpatientperiods WITH treatment has helped before, my therapist takes me seriously. With her, I don't have to stand on my head to show her I'm not coping at x moment in time. Just telling her is enough. For me the whole jn patient issue has changed. Before it was literally the only way for my then-therapist to figure I was serious I couldn't cope. And there was more "need" for them because I was in a very downward spiral. At my current MHI I feel I'm taken seriously at all times. I don't need inpatient to get through. Which is why I've done the largest part of traumatherapy at home or at the MHI, depending on a physical problem. The reason things are so different is because for years I was treated like a borderline. Numerous tests never showed it. But Well, I cut myself. Ergo: Borderline. Totally depressing. The real issue was I have Aspergers and chronic and complex Ptss. Verbly I'm strong though. Together that makes therapists think I am smart enough and never saw the Aspergers and other issues. It feels so much calmer. There's attention for the fact I can't always do x or y, instead of not willing enough. She helped me get a physical diagnosis as well after 20 years. Have to live with it, but I always heard it was in my head. And it actually is. Only neurological and not mental. There is much to be improved imo. Seen a few different MHI 's and all work differently when treating the same person. Waitinglists can be abominable sadly that won't change anytime soon, if at all :(

i started having issues when i was very young and saw my first psychiatrist when i was 8. i was embarrassed and withheld information because i didn't want my parents getting in trouble and didn't want to be thought of as crazy. so i went for years un diagnosed and slowly got worse through the years. the info i withheld was hearing things from time to time, paranoid or distrustful of people, feeling depressed, detached from reality at times, and abuse from my father. for an 8 year old in 1975 there was a heavy shame and stigma about it.

tim No one is mentally ill. This world is teaching solidity which is a lie. Then everyone is acting like they die and that there are enemies and germs that will attack them. People are thinking that they are sick when they see or hear visions. AND they are right big time.

Do you prefer the words "psychotic episodes" instead? Americans are narcissistically consumed today with identity politics and wordsmithing in the relentless attempt to impose "political correctness" and control others. But language is merely a tool that coveys thought and the words that are available are not always perfect messengers. Banning words or phrases does NOT improve the conversation but paradoxically has the exact opposite effect. There's simply NO way to have authentic and meaningful conversations regarding, mental disease in children or to seek positive outcomes for them if you ban words, sugarcoat thought and attempt to wordsmith away the pain and devastation that's caused by childhood mental disease in those it effects, their families and the community at large!

I have PNES, which basically means my depression and anxiety cause me to have a seizures. One time I had a mental breakdown during class and I collapsed and began seizing. At first it starts out looking like a panic attack, so my classmates and my teacher just stood there telling me "ur fine just breathe" even though a motioned that I couldn't breathe. They say me down in a chair but I collapsed a fell off from the lack of air and began to seize. When I came to, the teacher told me to walk myself to the nurse. 20mins later a made to the nurse and by then my counselor was there. I seized 2 more times due to the anxiety and fear of the first one. Apparently the counselor had told the nurses my condition and decided to leave me on a sofa bed and called my sister to take me home cause I was in emotional distress. My sister was pissed and had to drive me to the ER which they surveyed me for 2 hours and said I was stable to be let home and go back to school. I feel like since people think it's just a mental problem (PNES is caused by emotional stress and is non epileptic) that I'm just overreacting or the most common "wanting attention." But really it's extremely embarrassing inside. When people ask if I have epilepsy and I tell them no and explain my condition, their mood changes. I feel ashamed to say I have anxiety and depression due to its stigma. People think since its in my head I can control it and wish i could. I'm terrified of it, it feels like my chest is on fire and my limbs are being electrocuted, my muscles contract feel like they'll snap, I loose feeling of my hands and feet, my heart races so fast that it causes me pain in my chest and burns, my lungs begin to spasm and it feels like I'm drowning in space. I wanna scream but no one can hear me. My brain cooks in my head. When my eyes roll back I start to loose consciousness and then I feel nothing, like I'm floating in darkness, I feel like death has gotten me and I'm alone. I remember one time my friend was with me when it happened, from her perspective after I was done seizing. I stopped moving, and for a good 1 minute and a half I didn't breathe, she took my pulse and my heart dropped from rapid to almost none existent, and my eyes remained open and I just stared at the ceiling until I regained consciousness...And yet people think I do it cause I want to... Mental illness hurts people... Do different from any other illness

Death is not a mental illness. Show less REPLY

What about the reverse? Dealing with a parent will a mental illness. My father is hyper, gets angry easily, doesn’t understand boundaries and is too rough with my pets (hugging them too hard, patting the cat, etc). I’m 18, so I can leave if I want to. But I have what I think to be endometriosis (not officially diagnosed yet), so it’s impossible for me to be on my own. It’s like I’m trapped in a dungeon with a time bomb sometimes.

It all depends on the severity. I’ve had issues since I was 9 and now I’m 13. Twice have I hurt somebody in these four years. People (especially kids) are more likely to be the victims than hurt somebody. It’s always hard to get help. I have nosebleeds daily due to stress, have cut my hair so I couldn’t rip it out as much, and I do everything I can to have panic attacks and anxiety attacks, as well as my episodes behind my bedroom door not to disturb others. I wear baggy long sleeved clothes every single day and keep to myself, yet I’m still ‘doing it for attention’

Kathy Trillionaires throw temper tantrums when something interferes with their ability to make lots of money. At his 1st grade parent/teacher conference, the teacher told me "maybe if you get married it would help his behavior." I turned around and told her "Oh, do you have someone in mind for me?"....lol. That's the kind of idiocy that goes on when they know full well some children need services and don't do anything about it. He is now an adult and suffers from bipolar with psychosis disorder. I was a mentally ill child. It’s hard when my parents weren’t on the same page on how to handle my “outbursts” (as they called them) I also grew up to be a mentally ill adult. Been on every anti psychotic except maybe Thorazine. I have had all kinds of hallucinations and night terrors. I’m not talking normal nightmares, it feels like it’s actually happening and I’m sleep running. It’s calmed down now. And the biggest issues I face now are SI and SH, also a ton of anxiety. I mostly keep to myself and have a very small social group. What kids like me needed (need) is understanding. It’s not us doing it on purpose, and it’s not that our parents are bad; we as the ill person have a physical/chemical difference in our brains. It’s like if you tried to put a PS game in an Xbox, our brains are just different. We need the right medications and supports to thrive, and stigmatizing therapy and medications and hospital stays is not going to help the problem. It just makes us feel like we are failures. I remember thinking growing up that I was a freak for needing so much help and feeling like crap for it not working. Going to therapy and taking a cocktail of drugs didn’t do much if anything. I’m now 29 (almost 30) and I’m on the right meds and can tell when I need a med adjustment or need the hospital before I act out on the impulsive thoughts. It gets better when you’re around people who get it. Sometimes just hearing someone say “I get it”, is what i personally needed.

What that woman said was no joke. Ive been in a hospital once, got rushed out before I was stable, and was back within two days. The mental health system in America and the overall understanding of mental illness is completely skewed. Sometimes the mental health system in the hospitals just adds even more trauma to already delicate people who are susceptible to trauma. People just don't think that mental illnesses are "real" illnesses, and as a consequence, hospitals dont get the funding that they need to help the people that need it. It's sick.

I always said having mental illness is worse than being physically ill. There are actual people who choose to work in the mental health field that still manage to frown upon people with mental health issues. For some mental illness is a lifelong issue and is an everyday battle. Imagine trying to hold down a job, pay bills and be chronically suicidal on a daily basis. People with mental illness get no sympathy and don't get any credit for what they have had to endure. Be it abusive childhoods to being treated horribly in psychiatric hospitals. In some families mental illness is a secret and there is a lot of shame. And it is hard to get care because insurance doesn't cover the cost like it would if you had cancer. The United States needs to provide better care to all of its people. Especially mental health.

I have had schizoaffective disorder since I was a little girl. I was having temper tantrums even when I was older and suffered severe depression, anxiety and hypo mania and weight problems. I was cutting myself and self injured from the time I was in middle school and had been hospitalized. I got angry easily. Now I suffer auditory and olfactory hallucinations as well as severe panic attacks. It had been difficult on my family. I was bullied severely in school. I also had a learning disability. People thought that I would amount to nothing and the stigma is real. Once I was hospitalized, I was treated differently by a lot of people. My parents and therapists wondered why I didn’t want or care to make friends. Later in life, when I chose a high stress job, after I got my associates degree. I was told that I couldn’t handle stress and why I wanted to be alone. Now, the demands of a job in the more fast paced environments of today and unable to tolerate any social situations for too long, I am unable to work. My father understands. But, cannot handle when I get pressure of speech and very paranoid. But, even though I try to control it I can’t. But, he’s old and I try to leave him alone. So, instead, I have nightmares. This has been a struggle and I was born with it. It’s going to be a long road for these parents and their children. If we treated mental disorders and disabilities like we do physical disorders, we would have a better society. Look at the mental hospitals. I was in a private hospital about 15 years ago. It was like a jail. When you are physically sick you get a private hospital room that is relatively comfortable. I have also been Baker Acted, and suffered severe anxiety confined to my hospital room with chest pain. After 3 days with a sitter and hospital staff treating me differently, I talked my way out of the hospital and went to my psychiatrist. It helps to find a good psychiatrist. I am lucky I found one. But, it’s not easy to find a good one. I went through many throughout my life getting medications that made me worse and not getting the correct diagnosis. Be persistent and advocate for your family and your child. For instance, when I went to rehab for my badly broken ankle. That was treated correctly. But, even though I arrived early and there was plenty of time to get my medications, they were not on the unit in time. The staff got flippant with me when I stated the importance of taking my night time medications and I was told that I wouldn’t just have to go without them. I was up all night. I couldn’t take the TV running and developed a severe panic attack that lasted for 2 days. I couldn’t taste my food because my olfactory hallucinations made it impossible. It was disgusting. Also, I lost 2 days of therapy because of it. I’d go and be sent back to my room. Later on, I advocated for people like me sending a letter of complaint to the higher ups and was called by the president of the organization. Heads were rolling after that. Hopefully I helped others with mental health problems get their medications as well as advocated for myself. I usually state you would treat people for pain. Why not treat them for their anxiety. You treat a diabetic with insulin and make sure that it’s on the unit. Why not make sure my neuroleptic is on the unit.

Thank you for your comment. I've been searching these vids and posts looking for someone who understands. My kids are going through this now. Nobody understands. It's hard to find testimonies from adults who grew up with illness or parents. I just want to know what my kids are going through from people besides myself. Drs/staff don't have children of their own with mental health issues. They just work with them. It's NOT the same.

Shawna Read the book 'Hands of Light" written by the physicist Barbara Brennan. We are all okay. Death is a lie. Your dad is still alive, but vibrating in another dimension. Physicists proved a long time ago that solidity does not exist. What is called solidity is energy that vibrates, rotates, spins, oscillates, radiates, resonates and bursts forth as quarks which spin billions of times a second as 3 points of light, forming what are called protons and neutrons. The physicist Kenneth Ford wrote these last words.

Working in mental health for over 20yrs I am sad that the stigma of mental illness is still so prevalent. While I am grateful they took time to bring recognition to this, they need to cover more than just "violent" and "temper tantrums". Many kids suffer in silence. They follow the rules, try to please everyone or have a meltdown here and there but nothing major that would bring attention to what they are really feeling and experiencing. No one questions because they seem "fine". Or maybe a child becomes erratic and they blame age and peer pressure. No one stops to think and ask if the child might be hallucinating. The belief that severe persistent mental illness cannot exist in young children needs to stop. Children can present like this very young. Until we lose the stigma, increase funding and resources, and give parents the support they need to continue to help their child we can expect this type of story to continue to be the unfortunate normal. We are saturated with requests for donations for children with cancer and other "acceptable physical health issues" but very rarely do you ever see or hear a request for donations for mental health issues. And unfortunately way too many people see mental health as separate from physical health, even in the medical community. That needs to change. I will say I have had the privilege of working with children with severe mental illness. They have an amazing strength and gift for compassion when you are able to get the illness under control. They always teach me far more than I teach them.

jackycook64 I was severely abused as a child and nobody cared. Then I grow up to find out it wasn't me that had the mental illness. After reading 200 books, I found out all the below and more. I have been reading for 30 years that all drugs have been proven to be placebos. People act the way they are expected to act. Trillionaires throw temper tantrums when something interferes with their ability to make lots of money.

(Edit: Sorry this is long, I'm just a big story teller and to anyone that's going to say something mean and throw hate, keep scrolling.) I have ADHD, level 1 ASD, anxiety and winter depression. I grew up on the frequent visits of psychiatric therapy but I really needed help on how to be social with others until middle and high school. In middle school was when I truly been having depression. Me being the socially awkward kid, I was a target to bullies, jocks, etc,. I began having thoughts of suicide (still have them today but aren't frequent anymore). In 7th grade, I went to the extreme and began cutting my own skin. In 8th grade, I was caught cutting my skin in the cafeteria bathroomand got sent to a psychiatric hospital for a week. If anyone wonders how long I been clean, it's been almost 5 years now. My time spending isolated inside a small, cold, white room was one small looking to another building was horrifying and I wore a orange jumpsuit just to make me feel like I was in prison. The first night at the hospital, my suicidal thoughts went up so high, I began banging my head against the wall so I can suffer brain damage but the nurses came in and stopped me from it. To anyone who thinks I did this for attention just stfu because I was told by doctors that I have issues and I take meds for this stuff and yes, I have a therapist. To anyone who suffers with mental illness, you're not alone. There is always help anywhere you go and look. To anyone who is going through rough times and has plans of suicide, please don't do it. You're life has so much to come and even if you don't know it, there is people out there that care and love you.

jessi What I have found out from reading the bible is that I am a born again Christian, too. But physics says that I am constantly being reborn over and over again because this is the way energy/God acts. The bible says that we are the light and that we come from the light. Physics says this too. The bible says that there are many mansions. Physics calls these dimensions. Physics and electricity teach that protons spin as positive charges and electrons spin as negative charges. This is God's mind here that we are talking about. If God is going to be the one supreme leader, then God has to be all that quantum physics teaches. To try to save the world, I have to teach like Barbara Brennan. She has helped people to heal themselves without drugs, surgery, etc. You want to believe that we are created in the image of God? We are holograms that ARE images. This is the only way God can be seen. How else do you think we are images that are just like God? Physicists say that God must be a holodeck for us to be holograms. Barbara Brennan has found out that we are not solid, which does not refute anything any bible says. Barbara Brennan teaches us that we are eternal. So does the bible. Brennan teaches that our belief will heal us. So does the bible. The bible teaches that the Kingdom of God is within us. Physics teaches that all of us are vibrating, spinning and oscillating with the energy of this God. What I have found out is that quantum physics has always taught the core of any bible, but in today's terms that can be understood.

I think using the word 'mental ' is not a good one to use. The brain is an organ like any organ in the body but it is the least understood organ. Things can go wrong with it, like the heart or lungs. Maybe, if we used 'brain illness" or brain health as oposed to mental illness or mental health, people would possibly change their attitude towards people who have these illnesses.Blessings to those who deal with their illnesses, they are always in my prayers!

Well said. I totally agree and was thinking the same thing. Designating it as an organ -specifically the brain, makes it less about their identity or who they are as a person. However, it’s hard to make it mutually exclusive because the brain is not like other organs like the liver or lungs. It’s very much your personality/who you are. Or it at least seems to be... The other organs don’t have that unique motherboard function. But, I agree. There needs to be a change in the term, so there is less cultural stigma. I think it’s fair to help in that respect.

I don't want to seem rude but I have a genuine question (s) . I live in the UK and in children Mental health problems are not diagnosed easily or as early as in the US I mean for example to diagnose a 6/7yr old with bipolar, sometimes in addition with bipolar and Aspergers or high functioning autism?, Here in the UK kids are diagnosed with Autism/ADHD,OCD eating disorders etc So why are kids so young being diagnosed so early with MAJOR mental health illnesses such as bipolar and personality disorder psychosis and even schizophrenia?. I just don't get it? and I don't mean to be rude but do some parents DR shop? An example is schizophrenia child onset type I mean there is this girl Jani Schofield diagnosed at SIX?! WTF! she is meant to be ''schizophrenic'' yet displays behaviours of being on the autistic spectrum and she is not alone - kids do get diagnosed with depression/anxiety of course and treatment here but it is rare for a kid under 18 to be diagnosed with bipolar or schizophrenia here and yet in the USA there are plenty of kids with those illnesses? also what is it with medicating autism - pumping anti psychotic drugs such as Risperdal / Risperidone into young kids with Autism, Autism is a neurological disorder NOT a mental health problem and typically these drugs should not work as well as say someone who has/experiences voices, paranoia, psychosis

Joe White As with any medical issue (and mental illness is just that), parents get other professional opinions. And they should. They know their children better than anyone and their gut instinct should not be dismissed. There are plenty of specialists out there that are not competent in their field and any parent should challenge their child's dx if it doesn't fit what they're experiencing. I'm not a medical professional, but mental illness runs rampant in my family and if we didn't go with our gut instinct and "doctor shop" we'd have lost family members to suicide. There is no clear answer to your question. Every parent has a completely different experience than others. If you know one person with a mental illness, it means you know one person with a mental illness. One experience cannot be judged by another.

In Jani's case, the medications are necessary because, without them, she cannot distinguish between reality and her own imagination. Not only that, but she has hallucinations that tell her to hurt herself and others. This is not just a simple case of autism; this is a case of crippling full-blown schizophrenia. She's got it so badly that she can't go to a regular school and has to be hospitalized several times a year due to the fact that she has psychotic breaks that threaten her safety, as well as that of those around her. In her case, medications are definitely a necessity.

For those that say stop filling up the ER with mental patients, I will tell you that walk in clinics will not handle someone that has gone off the deep end. For example, say your adult child is talking to himself and just won’t stop. This comes from lack of adequate sleep for weeks coupled with anxiety. You, as a parent, need something to get your adult child to sleep or at least calm down. Melatonin and other sleep aids won’t work. You need Abilify or Lithium or something and you need it ASAP. Well, psychiatrists prescribe those after an initial visit or two. Try getting a psychiatrist appointment. You will wait for a couple weeks at least. The ER and a hospital stay is the only way unless you have a psychiatrist already. Sorry folks, but we are not set up properly for mental illness in the USA. I would definitely go on 60 Minutes and tell my story. Email me at my username on Gmail.

Touka There IS help. Trillionaires throw temper tantrums when something interferes with their ability to make lots of money. Read the book "War on the Weak" by Black. This will give you more information about what is actually happening in America. These books WILL help you.

Touka You can get this Hands of Light book in the library to cure yourself. The only advertisement here is an effort to help you with your pain. If you don't read this book, then I say that you are giving to yourself nothing, but more pain.

@@pureenergy5051 Yes, I think these are some good ideas. Reminds me of the love Terence McKenna had for his fellow humans. While there might be some psychopath doctors out there loving the suffering of the people, so they can collect the money from the sick people, I've been a type one diabetic my entire life and I Do Not subscribe to any idea that my doctors want to keep me or anyone sick. That is just lunacy. The outrage that a cure exists and is being kept quiet is pure insanity because it's black box operations such as this cancer cure conspiracy that are designed to get discovered by those living such a dream as to discover such a deep dark conspiracy. Lunatic, conspiracy harboring, doctors have been quite the contrary in my experience and with the dozens of doctors I have interacted with over the years. I read everything under the sun, so I will be ordering and reading _Hands of Light_ by Barbara Brennan. Peace!

@@vsculpt but the trend now is to not use restraints, some places dont use them at all, for many years doctors used them too easily and used the threat of them to keep mental patients quiet. They usually have to undress the person after they restrain them..imagine how traumatic that could be for a kid.

Ani Reece As parents, they make that decision and I'm sure they have good reasons. We can't judge all mental illness against that of someone else. Each person's experience is different, but even so, sadly the stigma is the same. Mental illness is not a choice and no one should be looked down upon for having it, and everyone should be able to have access to treatment. I wish you well.

Michigan kids in mental crisis still wait weeks in ERs. Lansing's in no rush to stop it.
