I 100% agree that fans are paying for the whole production from A-to-Z - the matches including undercard, the dark match, the pyro, the lights and music. The WWF product post WM9 was atrocious. And while I’m biased as the Hogan-era, IMO, is unmatched, the New Generation-era is probably the worst, up until now....

Yeah I never got why Nash got blamed for WWF's problems? He had nothing to do with: *The Steroid Scandal *The Pat Patterson Scandal *NBC cancelling Saturday night main event *Hulk Hogan, Macho, Ultimate Warrior, LOD, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, British Bulldog & The Mountie all leaving within a few months of each other *TV ratings, PPV & Merch sales hitting a 20 year low in 1993 (WAY before he was champion) & continuing till the attitude era... It's like getting into a car crash & blaming the passenger. Nearly all of those things I just mentioned happened before he was even employed by them... WWF had to do the best with what they had & considering Vince's fetish for "big guys" in a post steroid industry, "big" now meant tall or fat (hence Nash, Yoko & Mabel main events)... Honestly I shutter to think where the company would have ended up WITHOUT Nash...

Bear in mind a lot of the New York crowd at Diesel's MSG win were veteran WWWF/Capitol fans who didn't appreciate Backlund going back to his last days as babyface champion in 1983 and in some cases still resented his win over Graham from back in 1978.

I liked Diesel. When he won the title I was 14. I was a mark at the time I thought wrestling was legit. With that mindset he looked badass. He looked like he could batter every wrestler in a street fight. And TBF He was booked like that. Royal rumble 94, survivor series 94. Then he wins the title. A draw with Bret at RR made no business sense. He should’ve beaten Bret with a jackknife. Then when Bret wins the title at SS. It means more as Bret is a bigger underdog having already lost earlier in the year. Diesel was booked so badly, there was no way that dispel would’ve gotten over as champ.

I just had a thought. They should've put Diesel against Razor for the WWF title at least once on PPV in 95. It would've been guaranteed money. King of the ring would've been the perfect spot instead of Mabel. A Bam Bam match up could've also worked.

American here - it's probably already been said, but "Diesel" was 90s slang for strong, or muscular. Shaq had the same nickname. Or, who knows, maybe Shane just really loves trucks.

Love your videos...Jim Cornette to this day still says Diesel is the worst Heavy Weight Champion in WWE history. I'm not so sure.

Cornette always talks strictly in terms of "business" about these things. So yes, Diesel was the worst from that perspective. Lowest drawing champion in the history of the company and the WWF made a $4.45 million loss during his "reign" as the champion. Nobody says that this was mostly, let alone entirely, his fault. The fact alone that Vince made a slow big guy with an extremely limited move set and already totally wrecked knees (from his basketball career) the champion so soon after an eternity of Hulkamania and in a year that started with Yokozuna wearing the belt, wasn't good. Diesel started his championship run at a house show with an 8-second squash win over Bob Backlund. _Riveting!_
