I don't often hear 'All Grown Up' worked. Most of the feedback I see, and kind of agree with myself, was that it was painfully generic. Not bad, but, zero standout points compared to all the other teen/tween drama shows of the era.

What's really strange about the Preschool Daze art style is that the only shading on the characters is on their eyes (with the exception of Angelica's hair, I suppose). Something about it just pushes it right into "creepy" territory

All grown up for me made a lot more sense of a transition since when it came out they were now roughly around the same age I was making it more relatable. Having them in preschool or elementary school would’ve only made sense if it came out a couple years sooner when the original fans were still closer to elementary school

Preschool Daze seriously freaked me out. I never knew about it. I just fell asleep with one of the Nick channels on, and woke up with this, and I thought I was still dreaming. It kind of reminds me of when I first experienced Twin Peaks. It used to come on Chiller after Freddy's Nightmares. I had a shitty DVR that needed the channel on to be recorded, and I recorded FN this one time, but woke up on the finale in the Black Lodge. I was dreaming of it and soon after woke up into it, and it was so jarring. I see Coop freaking out, then the scene with Bob and the doppelganger laughing. I. Had to watch the show after that lol.

This video was stellar. Good info, good writing, good delivery, and good use of clips. A+ material. Rugrats doesn’t work when the characters are flat and when there is no adventure. The original Rugrats was like a guide to imagination for kids. I loved it when I was a kid, and I am charmed by it as an adult. Glad to see someone talking about these shows so eloquently. After Paul Germain left, all Rugrats episodes, season 4 and up, looked like it was going for a Nick Jr. vibe. Just cause the characters are babies doesn't mean the show is for babies. Original Rugrats felt like something Charles Schultz would make.

I knew of this way after the fact, but IMO, Chuckie should’ve been in it with them. Preschool is age 3 - 5. Some preschool classes have kids that range in them. Given that Chuckie is only a year under these two, they could’ve put him in their class. I mean if AGU can show flashback to times where it was only Angelica and Chuckie, don’t see why they couldn’t toss him in here.
@PowerRangersFanAntiDinoFury

Because Susie and Angelica can talk to adults, Chuckie never had any 3rd birthday in the original show and never had any understandable dialogue towards adults except for the word "no".

I watched it repeatedly and didn’t like the All Grown Up spin-off as much. I think they really weren’t sure which demographic to write for. That what are we doing here goo goo ga ga line really cracked me up. I enjoy your humor. I was born in 91 and vibe with pretty much everything you've ever said in the videos I've watched! I love watching video essays on KZbin but you're the first guy I've seen to regularly cover content from the shows I used to watch as a kid.

@@JordanFringe94 yes you've made my past few work days since I've discovered your channel very entertaining. I look forward to seeing what other shows you'll cover! I gotta say I can't believe you haven't done a Fairly Oddparents or Hey Arnold yet though

Funny you say that, next Tuesday is a hey Arnold video! Haha I will do fairly odd parents for sure in the future, I have a very long list and doing 2 vids a week will take some time to get to them all but I will get to some Oddparents sooner than later! 😄

You're videos keep getting placed in my recommended, and I'm quite happy about that, actually, as many of your topics are quite interesting. I loved Rugrats growing up, as I'm sure most children of my generation did, but in all truth my years with the show were 1991-1999. I was never a big fan of the Dil Pickles character and even less of Kimi. The program also took on a more streamlined look as the years rolled on, I preferred the more unrefined aesthetic (especially of the earlier seasons). At the time of the airing of the backdoor pilot in 2002, I endured a major family tragedy which consumed my attention for much of the year. I don't even recall this episode, however I do have recollections of the "All Growed Up" episode of the original series. I wasn't the biggest fan of the "All Grown Up" series, but I would occasionally watch it and found Dil and Kimi to be much better their than in the parent series. THIS program, however I have no memory of and for good reason, it looks abysmal, terrifying and streamlined to the point where even the new reboot (dating this comment) looks leagues better, this coming from a guy who loathes contemporary CGI. My friend Ralph has a term he uses for films and media that are so utterly worthless that the only reason they exist is to be used in sacrifice, that term is "leader" as in "film leader" as in that strip of film you place at the beginning of a film you WANT to see so you can properly project it on the wall. This "preschool" show is nothing but pure leader.

I appreciate you are watching and enjoy the vids! Truly thank you so much! And that’s a good term for something like this, it makes a lot of sense haha sorry to hear you had a family emergency back then, totally can relate dropping everything for something so much more important like that 🙏🏻

Another great example of back door pilots were the fact that the lead actor or even most of the cast of the CSI spin-off shows debuted in a CSI show that came before it. Miami and Cyber first appeared on the original and New York first appeared on Miami. Characters from New York would eventually appear on the original but it was after much of the original cast (some who weren’t thrilled about spin-offs being made) left.

I was the hugest Rugrats fan when it was on, and I disbanded even know this existed until like a year ago. I was obsessed with Spongebob and watched Nickelodeon all the time in 2002, so I have no idea how I never saw it.

Finding out how rocky the creators relationship became over this show, how passion draining they both were because of creative differences, im sort of glad the rugrat empire took a break.

The main attraction to rugrats is the style. The style of this spinoff was like the antithesis of rugrats.
