Your confusion about what this movie is supposed to be is so valid! The director said it's not a remake or reboot, when it's clearly both 😂 the only info they've released about Chapter 2 & 3 is that the surviving character will be in both sequels. I forgot her name, but Denise didn't seem to be care that she survived either 😂 great reaction guys, that was a bad movie but you made it a fun time.

Don’t let your enjoyment of the movie get skewed by the “critic reviews” the audiences scores were MUCH higher. The reason critics were mad is cuz this movie mostly mirrored the original, but they didn’t bother to research that that was the point. It’s a “reboot” but reimagined to tell a better structured story as a trilogy. So stay positive and hopeful because the next two movies are gonna be AMAZING since we’ll get an origin story and a way better tale of the killers!

The problem with The Strangers Chapter One.. not only is it just a blatant remake of the original, but they completely missed the point of why it was scary in the first place.. also, the town being creepy was completely unnecessary and provided no addition to the story.. It completely distracts from the main point.. being secluded in a home that has basically been turned into a cage for you to be tortured in.. they even have the boyfriend go into town for food, so it doesn't feel far at all.. I loved the difference of making the couple actually be into each other.. The town should've just been a normal town, could've even been a super friendly town.. It could've been a remake or sequel, they stop at a diner on their way across the state, and meet an old lady who offers her AirBnB, after talking about the sites nearby, and the couple wanna stay a little longer to check them out.. the AirBnB could be an old lakeside cabin even just 15mi into the forest, out of town.. part of a neighborhood of lakeside expensive summer properties that are just unoccupied, because it's winter, (or really close to winter, we don't even need snow to be a hindrance in this story)(.. although, creepy footsteps leading to the house, but not away, would be a cool detail for the couple to notice).. Then the events of the attack happen, and the old lady drives over to give them breakfast in the morning, and discovers them.. and if we want to make a trilogy with the girlfriend, an easy quick couple flashes of the lady rushing her to the hospital is all we need

This isn’t what you think of a remake this is a remake on like how scream 5 was just a copy with different characters and a reboot on the franchise and will go into detail on how the victims deal with the trauma

As a movie, if it wasn't connected to The Strangers franchise, I'd admit it's pretty good, but still has weird parts of the story that are completely unnecessary, and still an obvious blatant knockoff of the original The Strangers..

@@hsmorg3640 true this movie was advertised as a prequel heavily which confused me when I figured out that it was a remake of the entire franchise the movie could’ve been better the characters made stupid decisions the writing was so so the characters had been cool the actors did a good job it’s just the story was all over the place and they didn’t know what they had been doing with this movie it felt like they would do one thing then scrap that then move onto something else I honestly thought the girlfriend would’ve died at some points that’s how bad the characters and the writers made their decisions they should’ve left it as a prequel they shouldn’t even killed the boyfriend off in the first movie this movie didn’t even need a franchise when I tell you the first movie was horrible and don’t glaze the first movie saying it was good it was so boring yes it was brilliant in 2008 since every movie was a reboot back then and it was “sort of original” the strangers 1 was a remake of an already existing film btw if you didn’t know this movie felt rushed half way through after the dead deer was showcased it was so slow at the beginning but it was alright it was showcasing off the main characters of the movie but then all of a sudden it’s full on crazy after the dead deer scene

It has been explained by the director himself actually. It’s a modern reboot of the original so chapter 1 is just a retelling of the first movie but this trilogy is meant to tell a much better and more structured storyline and also an extremely good backstory on the killers themselves. This is gonna be so amazing when it’s all finished

I don't know, horror movies like this where the characters are just normal people and not supernatural kind of bug me because the protagonist never does anything smart. The guy had the chance to shoot all three of them at least once in different parts of the movie and he should have taken the shot. He's being totally dumb and ends up paying for not taking the shot. It's like he could have taken out one of the girls right away, then turned around and seen the guy. I don't know. I'm hoping the next two are better.

This film has such a low score because the characters are so infuriatingly incompetent, the film just isn't scary by today's standards, the acting is meh, and the jump scares are very predictable. The whole film is so uninteresting and forgettable. There's nothing entertaining about watching two bland characters who have no defining personality run around making horrible decisions for an hour and a half. I can't sympathize or root for anyone, and the audience just knows that no adult human being in their right mind would respond to a crisis like this. It's just a copy and paste home invasion movie that slapped 'The Strangers' on the title to rake in a few bucks. No one's trashing this film because they were disappointed it's not a prequel, check out the reviews, it's just pathetic filmmaking. FLOP!
