I didn't know a partial incline barbell press was a shoulder press.

First off, let me say congrats to Julius for an incredible lift! Secondly, most 300+ lb muscle bound guys like myself and the lifters in this video can't even touch our chest on this exercise even if we wanted to. Thirdly, the bench is on a steep incline but that doesn't change the fact that it's still a shoulder dominant lift - hence the name shoulder press - it's a shoulder press. An incline press can also refer to a chest dominant press hence why we call this a seated shoulder press and not an incline press. If we REALLY want to get picky it's a high incline shoulder press.

@@wattsinaname6975it's not possible to shoulder press without leaning back. If you don't then the bar has to go straight through your head which is why you only see 90° seated presses with dumbbells
@wattsinaname69753 ай бұрын
@@TheLegMan1 I'm not saying it needs to be 90 degrees, but I know an incline bench when I see one. Either that or just do it standing if you really want to shut the "haters" up.
@SlimJim-bw3ibАй бұрын
@@TheLegMan1 You can't do seated shoulder press on a long bench like the ones these guys are doing, so I get the point. That's why you need the short bench, where it's got a fixed 90 degree angle, and the back support only comes up to your scapula, so you can actually get your head cleared out of the way during a shoulder press. These guys are just doing a high incline bench press. Not taking anything away from them, it's still MONSTROUS stregnth that is being displayed here, but we all know how different a strict military press is from a incline bench press.

Looks more like a incline press then a shoulder press

Julius has done 605 lbs x 3 on incline, this ain't dumbbells so it has to be slightly set back to allow the barbell path to reach his chest.

I seated overhead pressed 225 for 3 this week & I was so happy with myself. I couldn't even imagine someone doing over 3 plates on it, yet alone close to 6. It's insane how much strong some of these dudes and ladies are. Congratulations on the 573, Julius!

I don’t get why stopping above the chin is accepted as a standard for shoulder pressing . Doesn’t look good at all
@BigBadJohn74 ай бұрын
It is a very impressive feat, but I agree with you. Cleaning the weight from the floor to clavicles, then pressing overhead with straight knees and minimal backbend would be much more impressive.
@Jason-wc3fh4 ай бұрын
It's a common theme amongst all the very large lifters. I think they actually become muscle bound to a point that they can't actually lower it to their clavicle the way olympic weightlifters do.

Serge Reding had the most legit shoulder press ever... Right now, Ivan Makarov has the best one. The way they do it is the most legit way IMO. Standing and strict pressed from the collar bones.

I would like to comment here. Great channel. I always like your videos. We all love heavy ass lifts and I enjoyed the session with Maddox and Baker. I was sceptical about the range of motion. I am not an hater. In fact I would love that Maddox hit 800 pounds on the bench press and Baker hit more than 700 too. But it was not a full range of motion. They are big guys of course but when you look at this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWLSm5WDhbhpe6M you see that Larry and Ivan touch their chest before pressing. I will never lift what Julius and Baker lift. They are amazing but setting standards is better for the sport. We do it for bench press, it would be great to do so for military press.

For the 3477 time that’s not a shoulder press. That’s a hybrid between incline bench and shoulder press. With the strange agendas and make believe Lynn we live in now where people can make and call anything anything they want we also have now in the lifting world people on social media and pro lifters making up exercises at will. Iv educated through conversation Blake and Daniel and none of them had a defense when I told them that is simply not a shoulder press. They do it that way so they can do a lot more weight and get that wow factor for social media and so fools like Nick who mentioned years ago, he was done with youtube for good is now back looking for the spotlight by covering this . If I could post my interactions with Daniel and Blake I would

I want you to try to do a seated press at 90° with a barbell lol. You can't lean back or move your head out of the way of the bar because you have the seat in the way. Even if you do it you would have to set your whole body at an angle.

@@TheLegMan1 these guys know how much more impressive it looks for social media to do these hybrid shoulder presses. Most of their audience isn’t people like me who have lifted at high level for 17 years.
