Love the horns, scenery, beautiful weather and commentary. Will be adding this to my LIRR Railfanning playlist. 0:53 I sure look forward to your fall trip. Your commentary and knowledge of trains is pure gold. So yes, you'll do a much better job. 17:48 Hey! M3s are not tin cans! M7s, maybe, but they're beautiful sounding tin cans. 😂

Thank you for your service to our nation's security! Of course, to me Memorial Day isn't just for those who've paid the alternant sacrifice, but to remember to appreciate those who never knowing if they're going at the end of their shift. For me, Memorial Day is day to remember everyone in our lives whether they in the Military or not we owe everyone a bit thanks for enriching our lives.

@@3985uprr 6005 (old 8703) commonly gets extended to Penn especially on holiday weekends or on sundays when there is not so nice weather (people all go at once early back to the city). It’s a very crowded train.

Looking forward to your take on Caltrain. True that many others have railfanned Caltrain but your take should be entertaining. Yes. EMD F40's, MP36's and RFW's (Northbound/To San Francisco) are what makes it unique.However the Stadler FLIRT's are going to be an improvement for most things. I wish that they had designed the Stadler FLIRT's EMU's with RFW's. So, yeah, get photos and videos when you can as the only constant in railroading is change. New trains, signals, switches, scenery and service patterns. In regards to Caltrain and horns. You probably missed out on when SP and Caltrain used to run with the P3's. Sadly, some NIMBYs in the mid-peninsula area where able to get Caltrain to stop using them. Having said that, at least Caltrain still has many grade crossings so you will get some good horn shows and action when you visit. I look forward to getting your take to see if you like the Caltrain horns better or worse than the C3 cab car horns.

I will mention about the Lark and the coast, daylight. Didn’t the coast starlight go to Oakland? I know the Lark traveled overnight to San Francisco.

Amtrak's northbound Coast Starlight #14 enters the Peninsula Corridor at Carnadero Avenue Junction, makes a station-stop at San Jose, and yes -- continues on to Seattle via Oakland. While southbound train #11 enters the Peninsula Corridor at New Hall Yard, makes a station-stop at San Jose, and continues south -- terminating at Los Angeles Union Station. So, the Coast Starlight travels on the PC between Carnadero Avenue Junction, and New Hall Yard.

Such long trains to Montauk! Even on a holiday weekend it's hard to believe they're all full, but I guess they are. Where does the Montauk branch narrow from 2 tracks to 1, and what is the maxximum track speed?

And what is Rule 261?
@BrianMonroe
@BrianMonroe Жыл бұрын
According to wiki: On most Class I railroads, this rule references bi-directional operation on any mainline track. Multi track mainlines signalled for 261 operation have full speed signals and speed limits on all available tracks as conditions warrant. Rule 261 operation is the default operating procedure on single track mainlines.

Tim, as a fan of your videos, but someone who has never been to Long Island (other than to queens and Brooklyn), do trains not run all the way to Montauk other than in the summer?
@3985uprr
@3985uprr Жыл бұрын
Yes, there’s a moderate schedule to Montauk in the off-season. On a weekend you can easily take a day trip out there. They run three trains out in the morning and early afternoon, and three trains back in the late afternoon and evening. The station is about a 15 minute walk from the village in the ocean but it’s not bad in the town is pleasant with lots of restaurants and stores.

Why does LIRR need to use 2 locomotives on consists longer than, say, 4 or 5 cars? Even 6 cars is abnormal for one diesel? Meanwhile, GO Transit up in Toronto runs 12 bi-level cars with a single loco....... 🤔
