There are so many fantastic Easter eggs for us older gamers. The Mario Brothers Rap in their commercial is from the Super Mario Brothers’ Super Show, a live-action/animated show that aired in the late 80’s.

One of the Easter eggs in this film early on, very subtle, but serves as great foreshadowing for the climax. The side shot of Mario playing NES in his room, there's a poster on the wall featuring two wrestlers from the NES game Pro Wrestling. The pink character is Starman and the green one is The Amazon. Starman is considered a babyface (good guy) and Amazon a heel (bad guy) Amazon also wears a mask that has lizard like features. The star powerup in the Mario games is also called Starman. Side note: the NES released in NYC on October 18th, 1985. The #1 song in US at that time: Take on Me.

I really enjoyed this movie. It really took me back to my childhood when I played the game so much nostalgia in this. As far as Chris Pratt voicing Mario it kinda reminds me of when Will Smith played the Genie in Aladdin he made it his own and Chris Pratt did the same thing here and he did a couple of Mario's responses and made it his own either way I'm satisfied with his interpretation of Mario and can't wait for the sequel to this hopefully they'll bring the entire cast back for it. The best part of this movie was the training sequence and all of us old schoolers reliving the first time you encountered certain mario game aspects. You thought you were safe for a second, then something gives way, or you dont know something will kill you and you touch it and then have to start over, etc

The Mushroom Kingdom and other kingdoms are actually on another planet, not another dimension. The Galaxy games give a good explanation. Amazing movie, incredible fan service. My only gripe is Take On Me replacing the “Driving Me Bananas” original track.

The music in the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing ad is from the live action/cartoon version of Super Mario Bros that aired on TV in the US in 1989-1990. It was called the "Super Mario Brothers Super Show." Mario and Luigi in the live action segments were respectively played by "Captain Lou" Albano (a former WWE wrestler) and Danny Wells (played the bartender on "The Jeffersons").

I was honestly surprised they threw in a Wrecking Crew reference into this. I was practically the only person that played this game. It felt like a Mario side story; fitting as well since it technically came out before Super Mario Bros did, so it could count as a prequel. ...among the other 13 Mario games they made before the main game. Wow, i was surprised by that google search. Thought for most just three games, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros (original) and Wrecking Crew.

I was so delighted with this movie, it was exactly the kind of Super Mario Brothers movie I wanted. No "reinvention", or "reimagining", just fun. And while its main audience was clearly kids, they made a movie that adults could enjoy too. But I have to be honest, I think my favorite big was the nihilistic blue flame, he cracked me up :)

Nintendo went so hard to drive home the point how much the Mario Brothers love each other. Literally every scene they have together shows it. They did so to shut up everyone that keep claiming Mario hates Luigi. Literally every argument they could possibly make gets smashed to pieces in this movie. "They come from a broken family." Nope! They come from a big loving family. "Luigi resents Mario and would turn on him in a second." Nope! Even in Bowser’s clutches, he cant stop singing his praises. "But not as kids. No siblings are close as kids!" Nope! They were close as BABIES! "Luigi's a little scaredy cat! You cant rely on him for anything!" Nope. Mario knew otherwise from day one. THAT'S why he pulled Luigi with him to grab the power star.

Even upon finding out he's about to die, Luigi’s not freaking out cause he's STILL only thinking about Mario. All he knows is Mario was last seen traveling with the princess, Bowser considers the princess to be his “fiancee", and now Bowser is getting married. That soft “Mario” isn’t a plea for a rescue, it’s a plea for his brother to be okay.

As a lifelong Nintendo fan, I loved this so much. From the trailers it looked cool but I was worried it wouldn't live up to it. It definitely did. This was a million times better than their live action attempt in the 90s. I hope the 2nd one does get made. it's supposed to come out in 2026 apparently.
