It was weird yes but its quite clear everyone who worked on it loved working on it just looking up how proud both Danny wells and Lou Albano were after it ended shows that even if the show wasn't great or like the games they still put in the love, time and effort to make the show entertaining for kids while still making sure kids learned something from the series. These guys next to Charles Marinette are probably the best actors to have played the duo

FUN FACT: Robert Remus AKA Sgt. Slaughter was under investigation by the US Marine Corp when filming his live action segments commenced. Remus himself never served in the military. He received several draft deferments and actually opposed the war, often protesting and demonstrating within the antiwar movement. This has caused controversy because, at times, Remus has talked about military service while seeming to be speaking as himself, and not in character. This has led to accusations of cowardice and stolen valor.

I remember watching this show as a kid and really liking it! To me, Lou Albano is the quintessential voice of Mario, with Bob Hoskins second. I grew apart from video games around the N64 era, so Charles Martinet never had a chance to grow on me. Back to this show, though, I've got lots of fond memories of it! I remember really loving how they expanded not only the SMB1 and 2 worlds, but also went to many imaginative places with their parodies and homages. It really fired up my imagination, and made me wonder what all other kinds of situations and adventures Mario could be a part of. As an adult, though, I've learned to be content with my memories of my experiences and imagination of the time, and not have that be sullied by clinical detachments of the show in a bingeable archive format, so I'm not going to rewatch it. There's a lot of other cartoons that I had similar fond memories of but rewatching as an adult showed they don't hold up to modern standards and probably didn't hold up to contemporary standards either, but it was for kids with bright colors and toys so I still respect them for hitting their audience.

I was in high school when these aired, couldn't watch them at first due to the time they aired here in the area of the US where I live, 5 freaking AM, I didn't wake up for school till 5:45 AM. Finally they moved the show to around 2:30 PM, and by that time, I was home, and able to finally watch all 52 episodes of Mario, and all 13 Zelda episodes. Years later I'd buy a bootleg DVD with just the animation parts, still have both discs, the quality on them quite bad. My sister did buy me a DVD within the last few years that has some of the episodes on them, but I can watch them all anyway either here, or somewhere else. Absolutely loved the show, was bummed Lou Albano and Danny Wells weren't called upon to do the SMB 3 and Super Mario World cartoons, despite both shows still being under the DiC banner.

6:48 - this is a good example of how the show would mimic things we saw in the games. This shot (logs falling thru water) in particular is like several stages in SMB2 for example, and they used other elements from the games into how they executed the show, so it really connected with the gamers (maybe because the structure of source to adaptation was streamlined or something along those lines).
