When this song came out I was a senior in college and had a radio show. I had just come back from a year in Munich so had been steeped in underground and alternative music. I went bananas when I heard this song. I think I have it on cassette somewhere as part of my radio show because I couldn’t stop playing it.. Today it’s 2020 and someone on KCRW played this while I was stuck in line at In-N-Out Burger. I went bananas AGAIN. 😆 It’s still so, so good and heart wrenching.

Still love this track. As others have said already, never had the recognition they deserve. I remember being absolutely blown away the first time I heard the extended version of Sweet Bird of Truth....heard it at my uncle's place and was hooked on The The since.

Thanks for this video. This has been one of my favorite songs since it first came out. It is impressive and in some ways sad how relevant Matt Johnson's work is today. I say sad because the dark songs he wrote still reflect the darker side of society today as they did more than 20 years ago. I am still hopeful, though.

Both Sinead and Matt were ahead of their time. Thx for this. I have the record somewhere but hadn't listened to it in ages. These two should have done a record together, or at least Sinead should have joined The The for one record. But hey - we get this one treasure and that is worth it.

I got to see the tour that followed this album release in the DC area - Marr was on tour and unreal as usual. One of the guitarists from my group at the time went nuts because Marr actually featured a solo, which is something "he just doesn't do" according to my guitar playing buddy. Sinead wasn't there for these vocals but the live show was still a Mind Bomb.

The greatest loss of my life (beyond the loss of my parents) is the loss of my naïveté. I have spent so many hours listening to albums such as 'Mind Bomb' (or others ) imagining that I was listening to some revelation, only much, much later to discover that so many of my gurus were self-involved and immature morons. I have 'Mind Bomb' on heavy vinyl, but still must cringe over the fact that the sonic brilliance is unsupported by any real intellectual substance. I will never again be able to enjoy such excesses. Shame on me, and shame on the guitar genius of Johnny Marr.
