Also known as the Birmingham Poltergeist, the case of the Thornton Road Poltergeist is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the paranormal. In the 1980s, several families living in the British city of Birmingham reported stones being thrown at their homes. The culprits were ghosts, invisible beings who came out at night to smash windows and scare the residents of Thornton Road. Police were unable to solve the eerie mystery, with many concluding that a poltergeist was to blame.
Strangely, the paranormal activity reported on Thornton Road can be said to be similar to other classic poltergeist cases, with stone-throwing reported and connected to ghosts and spirits of the dead since ancient times.

I agree. I live in Northeast Texas. I live in an apartment at the very edge of the country side. As a result, we get coyotes to wonder into areas of town. At night time you can hear them sing quite loudly. There are fields with trees which surrounds the apartment complex. Dimming the lights, looking out into the darkness, and hearing the coyotes, makes a good time to view a video like this. Paul R. Wright from Texas!🤠

You hear a story about rock throwing vandals in a residential neighborhood and think of sasquatch? The police even said that it might be hooligans with a rock launcher (sling shot, potato gun, etc...) The fact that it stopped after 6 years leads me to think that the perpetrators just grew up, got arrested for something else, or moved away.

Incidents like this do happen all over the world i guess but goes unreported or not given enough coverage... It did happen in my colony a decade back... It happened randomly any time. Even during the day time and we could see stones just flying out of the bushes with no one around in the bushes and continued for about a month. It all stopped when a group of women prayed over the area casting out demons through prayers where it was happening and it all stopped after that.

The fact that the stones hit multiple contiguous houses, means it wasn’t some poltergeist. Ghosts don’t need stones to break windows and terrorize families. The stones weren’t being washed, they were being shaped with a grinding stone so they would pass easily through the launching tube. The perpetrators may have wore gloves to avoid leaving evidence on them, but they were using a spring fired launcher with a level and compass, affixed to the floor, similar to an artillery mortar setup. They had obviously determined the precise angles at which to launch the stones in order to hit each house. Most likely the stones were being launched from the attic of the house, through an open skylight. This would prevent anyone from seeing the perpetrators launching the stones, and made it extremely difficult to determine exactly where the stones were being launched from. There were at least two of them, most likely brothers, boys with above average intelligence, 10 to 12 years old, likely excelled in STEM. They had a close family member, possibly father or uncle who served in the Army as a mortar man. That would give them everything they needed to get started terrorizing the neighbors. As for the motive… it appears to have been something personal, possibly relating to ethnicity or some earlier confrontation between their families that the boys decided to capitalize upon. Clever and sadistic, but not supernatural.

One night I was dead asleep & suddenly awakened by what I initially thought was someone throwing stones at the side of my house or my dog rebounding off the side of my house it was so loud & at first I was annoyed & ready to go snap at my dog for not coming in earlier when I tried to get her to come in for the night, but it turned out that I had apparently in my sleep decided to boil an entire dozen eggs for some reason & then went bag to lay down in bed to continue sleeping & what I had been woken up to was actually each egg ultimately literally popping upwards & cracking on the vaulted ceilings in my kitchen once the water had boiled away & continued to overkill each egg. Never knew an egg could actually do that & I as far as I know & anyone else who has seen never before caught me trying to cook while sleeping anything although I do have a sleep eating disorder which occasionally flares up & usually only involves my grabbing something or maybe making a bowl of cereal or a messy sandwich & taking it back to my bed only to wake up with whatever it happened to be lying neatly on my pillow next to me with a few bites out of it, an empty bowl, or lying on my chest with crumbs all over me & my bed which is terribly annoying & causes a lot of extra time cleaning up & washing bedding to only on a run of sleep eating back to back is a bit maddening & I’ve tried putting alarms & locks on doors & cabinets to wake me up or stop me, but apparently they just do not deter me in the least on a sleep eating mission. So I can imagine how very disturbing this phenomena or type of haunting could have such an unsettling effect & be rather traumatizing & even triggering too. I mean even if one put grid guards over the windows & doors it would still cause a loud startling noise & damage to both one’s mental state & feelings of security & safety as well as financially & structurally to one’s property & I imagine make it rather difficult to even want to chance getting in one’s vehicle just to leave or come home or drive down the neighborhood street or go outside in the years or take a walk or jog & be concerned for one’s pets as well as visitors or children etc. too. It’d be enough to make me more of a nervous wreck that’s for sure.

Clean rocks indicates an attempt to remove forensic evidence derived from soil sampling. It also makes them easier to store and handle. I am thinking a human culprit maybe using a catapult or ballista type device. The fact that rocks hit the roof indicates a high angle trajectory. I wonder if the police actually mapped the impact spots and did a trajectory analysis? Not saying that every poltergeist case has a mundane explanation but something about this one makes me think its more likely a vindictive weirdo with some understanding of building simple machines. Poltergeists tend to be very localised or personal to a person or family. The 'spread' of rock strikes along a street seems like the flaky ballistics of a primitive rock throwing machine.

I'm surprised that none of the visitors to any of the homes on Thornton Road had access to a simple VHS recorder in the 80s. It's just remarkable to me that everyone involved would not even try to capture video evidence of something so pervasive and persistent.

When you consider the lengths the police and residents went to to find out what was was doing the throwing, it seems impossible that nothing was seen to launch the stones, so the conclusion has to be something we don't understand and can't see etc.

With cases like this, i always wonder what might be the cause of it. Even if it's not humans doing the stone throwing, but some kind of entity - why would it suddenly start with that? I mean, what exactly is the point? Is there some entity that is angry about something or did something happen before that which might have stirred such occurences? Would be interesting to know....

People should always consider: A. Kids being mischievous. And B. The council wanting your land. I know for a fact that some councils will resort to arson in order to gain land they want to build on. If trees are there they will claim they are diseased. If normal people are there, they may fake crime to make people want to move, or even a haunting. Never underestimate the lengths the government will go to if they want something. They will never tell you directly, that would be far too kind.

I’d like the opportunity to tell my story to be told. It is from what I learnt in my memories!! A haunting that after going on in some shape or form for over 43 years in multiple homes. My family including 3 sisters 1 brother My since past on mother and still living Father. It’s worst at age 6/18 years of age for the whole family. And living a double life. Pretending life was dandy, when in fact it was the most miserable, horrific life of incident’s that i feel for this story to be told. May remove what ever shadow that continues to spread its tentacles to my beautiful born children including nephew’s and nieces. The whole story on the love of giving Evan just one escape from my family hell. Thank you. Humble yet almost but make no mistake Honest as the Lord be my witness along with a complete family.❤️🙏

I would have put up some wooden shutters over all my windows, one that can be opened and closed, it would have been cheaper than constantly replacing the glass, double glazing was only just coming in back then so glass wasn't super expensive but the time to keep replacing glass using putty around the edges would have been a nightmare, so you close the wooden shutters at night and lock them, if they was still getting smashed then that would have been paranormal. I cant believe that in 6 years of this torment no one put up wooden storm shutters on all their windows, why didn't anyone think of doing that? Thats just as hard to explain in my opinion

Instead of replacing the windows with glass just replace them with 5mm polycarbonate/plexiglass, there's no way a rock is going to break that and it's cheaper than glass is.
