a hand that can code day and night
@GarnetKane2 күн бұрын
Hahaha in the original version of the script, I was actually thinking of mentioning my hands as the most useful tool of all but ended up taking it out. But agreed - the hands that don't fail you and can code all hours ;) hahaha

It's carpal tunnel that makes you a game developer.

Hello, i am from Portugal and i'm interested in making a sci fi online videogame named "Portugal", the storyplot of this game is about a group of robotic mythical creatures like Werwolves, Griffins and Chimeras that were build in Lisbon by a young student named Sérgio Souto, however Sérgio's creation will be under the threat of Dr. Smith that wants to force Sérgio to work in his military base... for example the players could play together and create their own robotic werewolf, griffin, chimera, gargoyles, dragon or demon and explore places like Lisbon and Sintra while the try to survive against Dr. Smith... the videogame name will be "Portugal: Rise of the Ornurenses" and its based in my sci fi book "The Ornurenses"... i plan to make a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for both my book and videogame projects

3:2 monitors should be more common. They were everywhere back in '09

What do you use to store large files on git?
@GarnetKaneКүн бұрын
Hmmm, for my job we had a server that was used to handle the large files, but otherwise I haven't come across any unnecessarily large files that are out of the Git limits!

What kind of coffee do you brew; I find that oat milk latte machiato makes me sleepy when I gamedev late at night
@GarnetKane2 күн бұрын
Ooooh interesting a coffee makes you sleepy. I usually brew up a full milk cappuccino with half - 1 sugar - but I try not to have them after 4/5 pm. Overall I usually have between 1-3 coffees a day

@@GarnetKane Thank you for the thorough response! Your technical expertise on game development and your coffee routine should definitely be considered by us all-cheers

There’s no way you use VS instead of Rider and Git instead of P4V+AWS
@GarnetKaneКүн бұрын
Ahh I use Rider for personal projects, but since I mostly work on commercial things, I need to use the free alternative :P Otherwise I would love to use it

One Dark Pro theme is the best there there is, but I also use vim. And I prefer Unreal, because of how much easier it's to work with for animations, matched with blueprints. Unity is better for 2d games, compared to Unreal which is made for 3d, while Unity handles both.
@GarnetKaneКүн бұрын
One Dark Pro till the end. And yeah Unreal's great - I've used it for 2/3 projects - and honestly once I got used to it, there were a lot of things that I preferred, and I actually feel that c++ makes you a better programmer hahhaha

bro has 2 monitors with different ratio, as a person with the same 'problem', it sucks.
@GarnetKaneКүн бұрын
Hahahah definitely gets a bit confusing at times - would love to get a second monitor thats the same ratio, but i also like the high refresh rate, and the BenQ one is 60hz :o

Stupidly expensive.

I agree - As a game developer, a setup like this is completely unnecessary - the only benefit it serves me is that it makes my life easier, but that’s it - like i said in the video, don’t be defined by what tools you have or don’t have. I don’t deny that I’m in a privileged position to have the tools that i have, but i wouldn’t want that to discourage or have anyone think that’s what’s required to be a game developer :)

It's his full time job, a lot of people spend a lot more for their jobs, photographers for example. It's perfectly normal for people to spend this much
