Thank you James, as a 51 yr old single father. I dream of circumnavigating the world once my boys are finished with school. Maybe sooner if they'll join me. All your videos help me very much and you are very inspirational. Again Thank you. I really love your content

Hello James! Not sure, if you or your viewers, know this, but in past times, before Jimmy Cornell,s books, a source of route planning was " Ocean Passages for the World" it was used by commercial ocean going vessels, navies, etc. The detail of this publication, was very thorough. Take care ! Great series !

Thank you. I like to practice heavy weather sailing. I will wait until a storm front has passed then go out sailing. The wind and waves are still high but every hour the weather is getting nicer. I also do this in an area where I can easily get behind a breakwater if needed.

I have bought every book you've ever mentioned. What happens when you are tied to a slip and a storm surge comes? How do you allow for that? Would you rather be on the boat when the storm hits, or leave it tied to the slip and go inland?

@@SailorJames Thank you for the answer. I know that in NC the storm surge can go 15 feet or more. Katrina's surge was 28 feet. How do you pay out line to keep her tied but not sunk? Or do you just understand that sometimes things happen?

Hey, have you done a video on legal 'stuff' that is necessary to solo sail? (Globally). I've read for instance that you don't need any qualifications BUT.. I've recently read that some countries actually WILL ask to see qualifications... ICC, or equivalent. Sometimes they want to see your sailboat resume!? Would be really interested to hear about the Visa / immigration side of things too... I'd be looking to spend most of my time at anchor in remote-ish places but could still get hauled off to the police station I suppose! Be good if I could start working toward any 'qualifications' before I go buy a boat!
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 2 ай бұрын
That’s bullshit, no country asks for qualifications unless you are a citizen of that country and they require a sailing license or card.

I would add about weather, no matter how bad it gets stay on your vessel. Unless it is literally sinking below the waves/surface, truly going down not appearing like it will go down, stay on board. There have been so many "Ghost Ships" found over sailing history and some have been found years after they disappeared with no sign of what happened to the crew. In other words it takes a hell of a lot to sink a sail boat, vessels in general, and your dingy or life raft is no replacement for that security. Sailors have been on board when their vessel have done complete 360's and lived to tell the tale, so stay on board. Sorry just wanted to add that as a lot of new sailors are not aware of the fact that when you abandon ship your chances of surviving are drastically reduced. Fair winds, following seas, safe travels and God Bless...
