100% agree with you on this list, especially the last one. I got one of the type 68 Asian contract kits last year and I built it on a childlers receiver I affectionately refer to it as my trash can stick and considering I work on a ranch and most of my time is spent on horseback or four-wheeler having a handy little folding carbine that weighs next to nothing is extremely handy. Please don't take this in the wrong way, but its a non-milspec receiver...not even close to AKM or T56 standard. What I've noticed US makers do is pattern their mag wells around only a couple types of mag, and they are so afraid of having 'wobble' that they make things as tight as possible. They flip side to that is yep, mag compatability. You might look at your mag catch, see if perhaps you can remove some material there, and if so would it help?

The metal is always first being cast, and then to strengthen it would require forging. Without forging it is weak, and will not withstand the pressures even of the medium calibre cartridge for long. So, no, just cast trunnion will not last. Metal quality and composition and proper forging process is a key, not just any forging, and not just any steel.
@misha56705 ай бұрын
the process is investment casting vs more traditional forging/machining.
@77klinok5 ай бұрын
“Investment casting” is just a fancy name for a casting process variation. The gun parts that experience the most stress and pressure will not hold if they are made from casting. They need additional strengthening by forging, or rolling.
@misha56705 ай бұрын
@@77klinok Doesn't change the simple fact that the USSR used casting to make parts like the gasblock, front sight base, rear trunnion, and even the bolt carrier.
@77klinok5 ай бұрын
I am sorry, but you don’t understand metallurgy. First part of the production of metal is casting. For those critical parts the forging, and later perhaps the rolling, as it is cheaper, was done on the casted metal, then it was cut and milled to the final shape. That’s how most machines parts that need strength and resilience are made.

If you think they are long to watch, just imagine how long they take to to make? lol That said, I agree. I wish they were 10 minutes. The problem I run into is, what would I cut out? This video features 6 AKs and is 36 minutes long. Taking the time out for intro, outro and such, that leaves about 5 minutes on each gun. Any less and i just don't see what good it would be? No meat on that there bone otherwise.
