NOT sheering sheep is doubly cruel, considering humans are responsible for them _needing_ to be sheared in the first place. We kept selectively breeding them to produce excessive amounts of wool, meaning they could no longer naturally shed their thicker wool and rub off the excess on trees and bushes at the end of winter. We did this to them, it's now our responsibility to make sure they are treated humanely by regularly shearing them.

While I absolutely agree not shearing sheep is cruel. Blaming the entirety of humanity for something a select amount of humans did and sayings it’s the entirety of humanity’s responsibility to deal with it makes no sense.

@@thealterego3187 I am not blaming ALL humans, nor saying it is ALL humans responsibility. Since I do not know the specific humans responsible, and there is zero way to find this information out as well as being impossible to list every sheep farmer in existence, I was using the term "humans" in the generic, non-specific form. The wonders of the English language and words having multiple meanings and uses, depending on context!

To be honest, Hollywood has become lazy - The difference is that its laziness is not simply the action of replacing male leads for female leads in spin-offs or reboots, but acting as if just changing the gender and or race of the main leads is somehow a substitute for good character writing.

He has a point. There has been many times racebending/ just going for more "inclusive" casting just for its own sake isn't gonna make everyone jump to the theater. That part is definitely true. A female lead doesn't trigger me and so on and so forth but trying to change existing characters to something else is not respecting source material.(This doesn't apply to movies that have completely new/original chars, writers can do what they want on that).

And I found the reply weird as well. Terminator 1 and 2 are not modern movies and they weren't remakes. So missed the point at least two times. The post never said anything about not wanting female leads. The problem is bad/lazy remakes that can't compete with the original. We just want movies with good characters and storytelling. Visuals are nice as well, but less important. They should be in service of the story, not being front and center. (aaahh, almost got going again. All the gaslighting that any complaint is just sexist/racist is just annoying)

The funny part about the "and nobody got pregnant" is that it's literally what a home for wayward girls is. Those girls didn't just magically leave school for 6 months, they got sent the fuck away to have the kid, usually be forced to give it up, most of the ones who didn't ended up with their kid being a sibling, and just no one ever talked about it.
@ladyalicent705

The last part of your comment hits especially hard, “and just nobody ever talked about it”. That’s true for literally every single thing that boomers supposedly ‘didn’t have’ when they were growing up. No gay people back then? Yes they were, they were just locked up, or killed, *and just no one ever talked about it.* Same with autistic people, there seemed to be less of us back then, and that’s why they think vaccines cause it, but in reality? They threw us into those mental asylums, lobotomised us, *and just nobody ever talked about it.* Because that’s what conservatism is, isn’t it? ‘Just take everything I don’t like, and sweep it under the rug where I can’t see it!’

The friend that brought me into that circle has changed since then, and not for the better, so I'm kinda distancing myself, but it's hard bc I share lunch, and two classes with them, and it's hard to get the message across that I don't want to be friends anymore.

It's sadly the way of the world. In the early '80s, I was raped, at the age of 15. I was a virgin. While sitting in the Grand Jury room, trying to get the dude that raped me arrested, I had to spend 3 hours basically being accused, by a room full of old men, of 'asking for it' because of what I'd worn that day. (a baggy sweater, blue jeans, tennis shoes. nothing that could considered provocative in any sense) It was beyond madness! I finally lost my temper and started raging out at them. the burito story somewhat reminds me of my first experience at this chain Mexican resturant, I ordered steak street tacos and I felt like I was going to puke on the first bite from the INSANE amount of cilantro, like I'm not even kidding, the taco contained steak strips, chopped onion, and cilantro, the cilantro made up prob more than 1/3 of the taco, idk who made that taco but clearly they've never had cilantro cuz its not the type of food that you eat in that large amount with barely anything else (bonus, the steak was somewhat chewy and the salsa tasted/looked like ketchup with a lil bit of onion and shit) whats worse is that I had gone to a local Mexican restaurant a week or so before, and order street tacos (it was pork not steak) and it also had cilantro, but guess what, it was no more than 3 pinches worth of cilantro per taco and it tasted great. OK, let me bring up something I found with my college students (1987-2013). When they complained about how unfair things were (food, housing, etc.) and Boomers (my generation) were ruining everything by electing people who catered to them, I asked then how many of them voted. Less than 10% did. I told them that politicians are interested in keeping their jobs, so they will cater to those who continue to vote for them. I offered the students a 100 on an exam of their choice if they registered to vote (the university had people who would come to class to pass out and collect the voter registrations) and another if they would bring evidence they voted. I didn't care for whom, just vote. Although about 80% of the classes (over the years) accepted the card, less than 20% turned them in. Of the 20% who turned them in, less than 10% actually voted. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

@War450
@War450 11 ай бұрын
To be fair, there's a nuanced disconnect that a lot of people don't understand. It's similar to the whole english language bit. OFFICIALLY America has no official language, but 99.9% of it spoke english. All of it's documents are in english. Everyone living here spoke english, so it's reasonable and fair to call it an english speaking country. The same applies to religion. While officially America is a secular nation, it's government was founded on the IDEALS of Christianity. The morals imposed by the Christian faith and the belief of the Christian faith. 99% of those who founded it were Christians. 99% of those who lived here back then were Christians. Even to this day, even with all the anti-christian rhetoric and the decrease in religious faith, the majority of the country remains christian. So it is fair to call America a christian country. Just because something isn't "officially" labelled as something doesn't mean it isn't still that thing. Officially, America is not a Christian nation. Unofficially, it is.

Considering this and all of the other potentialities, I think it's likely that at some point in the entire lifespan of human history stretching into the past and the future both, there will be a distant group of aliens capable of space travel out there, doing the space travel. Now do I think that it's happened and they have approached or made contact with this planet? Fuck no. But I would believe they exist.

@ascrassin
@ascrassin 11 ай бұрын
I would say that being ignorant isn't proof of being smart. You have cultivated people that know many things, but would fail in any situation they didn't know of beforehand. Yes, even a simple logic test. But you have people that know next to nothing but can find logic connection that were never made by others. And at an individual level it is also subject dependent. For the age thing. It's a perfect example of why you shouldn't transpose moral belief on one era to another. Because while yes, by our standard of today (that are also mine) it's horrible, and it was known even then that it can cause problems to the mother. (I would also note that even them wouldn't go under an age or have a too large age difference, or if they did, it would be frowned upon and at least launch nasty rumors that would hurt the perpetrator) But if they didn't do that, then entire settlements could have died off or fallen into inbreeding. Mostly because it was long and difficult to travel, so if a family died off because not enough children lived to an age where they are allowed to reproduce. Then you remove their added gene diversity for the village and probably their neighbor. Again, not saying that it's not horrible, after all there are reasons why it's forbidden. And again, not a proof of them not being smart.

The adult classes one is ridiculous. Back in the 90’s we had classes in school like home economics, in which we learned cooking and sewing (I was fortunate enough to have parents who started teaching me these things around five). Those classes were cut because we had several superintendents in each district collecting six figures a piece and didn’t have funding for the people who were actually educating the students. So now, as adults, these people have to learn these skills. Some can learn from watching KZbin videos and some need a more hands on approach, you know, like they used to teach in school.
